      • Integrating GPS/INS/PL for Robust Positioning

        The Global Positioning System (GPS), Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Pseudolite (PL) technologies all play very important roles in navigation systems. As an independent navigation system, GPS can provide high precision positioning results which are independent of time. However, the performance will become unreliable when the system experiences high dynamics, or when the receiver is exposed to jamming or RF interference. In comparison to GPS, though INS is autonomous and provides good short-term accuracy, its use as a standalone navigation system is limited due to the time-dependent growth of the inertial sensor errors. PLs are ground-based transmitters that can transmit GPS-like signals. They have some advantages in that their positions can be determined precisely, and the Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNR) are relatively high. Because their combined performance, in principle, overcomes the shortcomings of the individual systems, the integration of GPS, INS and PL is increasingly receiving attention from researchers. Depending on the desired performance vs complexity, system integration can be carried out at different levels, namely loose, tight and ultra-tight coupling. Compared with loose and tight integration, although it is more complex in terms of system design, ultra-tight integration will be the basis of the next generation of reliable and robust navigation systems. Its main advantages include improved performance under exposure to high dynamics, and jamming and RF interference mitigation. This paper presents an overview of the ultra-tight integration developments and discusses some of the challenging issues.

        Analysis of Organic Acids in Chinese raisin tree (Hovenia dulcis) Peduncle and Their Changes in Liquid Fermentation Process

        Chinese raisin tree (Hovenia dulcis) peduncle is a wonderful food material for fermented food for high contents of sugars and a variety of organic acids. The organic acids in the fresh peduncle, fermented wine, and vinegar were identified and quantified by HPLC, and changes in biochemical parameters and organic acids in the fermentation process were studied. Skin-on fermentation was carried out in the alcoholic fermentation, and 9identified organic acids fluctuated by physical or biochemical reactions during the alcoholic fermentation. Submerged fermentation was carried out in the acetic fermentation. It took 72 h to finish the 1st cycle of acetification with the titratable acidity 5.42%(w/v), and 30h to finish the 2nd cycle. The contents of acetic acid, formic acid, and α-ketoglutaric acid increased, while the rest identified organic acids decreased in the acetification process. The fermentation developed in this study appeared to be a practical processing method for Chinese raisin tree peduncles.

        Prenylated flavonoid fractions from Glycyrrhiza glabra alleviate insulin resistance in HepG2 cells by regulating the ERK/IRS-1 and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways

        Insulin resistance (IR) is a key factor in the pathogenesis of disrupted glucose metabolism. Although the extract of Glycyrrhizaglabra has shown signifi cant hypoglycemic activity, its bioactive components remain to be identifi ed, and theirmechanisms of action, especially on hepatocyte glucose metabolism, are yet to be explored. In the present study, the primarycompounds from Glycyrrhiza glabra [named prenylated fl avonoid fractions (PFFs)] have been identifi ed and their chemicalstructures have been elucidated. The therapeutic eff ects of PFFs extracted from G. glabra on glucose metabolism disordersand IR in high insulin-induced insulin-resistant HepG2 (IR-HepG2) cells have been determined. Glabridin (GLD) was usedas a control. The results indicated that, similar to GLD, PFFs increased glucose consumption, glucose uptake, and translocationof glucose transporter 4 to the plasma membrane in IR-HepG2 cells. In addition, they enhanced the activities ofglycogen synthase, glucokinase, and pyruvate kinase, while reducing the activities of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinaseand glucose-6-phosphatase. Furthermore, they activated the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/Akt)pathway and suppressed the extracellular signal-regulated kinase/insulin receptor substrate-1 (ERK/IRS-1) pathway. Thesefi ndings suggest that, similar to GLD, PFFs can alleviate impaired glucose metabolism and alleviate IR in IR-HepG2 cells.

        Genetic Diversity of Brassica Species Revealed by Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism and Simple Sequence Repeat Markers

        Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were employed for assessing the genetic diversity of 21 Brassica cultivars including three oilseed species, B. rapa, B. carinata, and B. napus. Nineteen AFLP primer pairs generated an average of 83.05 with 78.95 polymorphic bands (95.05% of polymorphism) and 19 SSR primer pairs produced an average of 11.16 allelic products with 10.74 polymorphic products (91.50% of polymorphism). The dendrogram showed that the three species can be clearly distinguished and every two B. rapa cultivars was with the most abundant genetic diversity. The similarity matrixes detected by two-way Mantel test showed that the matrix correlation between the data from 19 AFLP and 19 SSR primer pairs showed a good fit, which revealed that the AFLP and SSR markers were all good for assessing the genetic diversity of Brassica species. However, the AFLP markers had slightly higher resolution of genetic similarities than the SSR markers.

      • Highly catalysis Zinc MOF-loaded nanogold coupled with aptamer to assay trace carbendazim by SERS

        Zinc metal organic framework (MOF<sub>Zn</sub>)-loaded goad nanoparticles (AuNPs) sol (Au@MOF<sub>Zn</sub>), which was characterized by TEM, Mapping, FTIR, XRD, and molecular spectrum, was prepared conveniently by solvothermal method. The results indicated that Au@MOF<sub>Zn</sub> had a very strong catalytic effect with the nanoreaction of AuNPs formation between sodium oxalate (SO) and HAuCl4. AuNPs in the new indicator reaction had a strong resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) signal at 370 nm. The indicator AuNPs generated by this reaction, which had the most intense surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) peak at 1621 cm -1. The new SERS/RRS indicator reaction in combination with specific aptamer (Apt) to fabricate a sensitive and selective Au@MOF<sub>Zn</sub> catalytic amplification-aptamer SERS/RRS assay platform for carbendazim (CBZ), with SERS/RRS linear range of 0.025-0.5 ng/mL. The detection limit was 0.02 ng/mL. Similarly, this assay platform has been also utilized to detect oxytetracycline (OTC) and profenofos (PF).

        Energy and exergy analysis of gas turbine combined cycle with exhaust gas recirculation under part-load conditions

        This paper presents the energy and exergy analysis of the gas turbine combined cycle during part-load operation under the exhaust gas recirculation - inlet/variable guide vane control (EGR-IGVC) strategy. The exergy destruction across each component and the energy and exergy efficiency of the topping, bottoming, and combined cycle are determined. Results show that EGR-IGVC and IGVC both effectively enhance the part-load efficiency of the combined cycle compared to fuel flow control (FFC) because higher turbine exhaust temperature allows more exergy to enter the bottoming cycle and increases bottoming cycle power output. However, EGR-IGVC decreases the bottoming cycle energy and exergy efficiency compared with IGVC. Even so, EGR-IGVC increases the topping cycle energy and exergy efficiency and can obtain a higher bottoming cycle power output. The combined cycle efficiency is enhanced by 0.97-1.21 percentage points over IGVC at 40 %-90 % loads. Exergy analysis has important guiding significance for further improving the part-load performance of the combined cycle.

        Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Homopolyimides Containing Pyridine and Morpholine Groups for Gas Separation by Molecular Design and Simulation

        A novel 4-(4-(1-morpholinyl)phenyl)-2,6-bis(4-aminophenyl)pyridine (MPAP) diamine monomer was designed and synthesized by introducing non-coplanar morpholine groups and pyridine heterocyclic structures. By one-step homopolymerization of MPAP and different dianhydrides, three new polyimides (PIs) were synthesized. The obtained PIs are easily soluble in common organic solvents, such as NMP, DMAc, and CHCl3. Simultaneously, PIs have high thermal performance (Tg = 277–377 °C) and excellent thermal stability (Td,5% and Td,10% are 460–487 °C and 525–545 °C). They also have good optical transparency (λcutoff = 380–394 nm, λ80% = 469–482 nm) and hydrophobicity (θ = 87–92º). The free volume and gas adsorption are simulated by Materials Studio 2019 software, and the simulation results match the gas separation performance obtained from experimental test. They show good gas separation performance as well, especially PI-3 for the CO2/N2 (up to 23.26), O2/N2 (up to 5.02) and He/N2 (up to 59.78) separations, which is close to the 1991 Robeson upper bound.

        Time Synchronization Error and Calibration in Integrated GPS/INS Systems

        The necessity for the precise time synchronization of measurement data from multiple sensors is widely recognized in the field of global positioning system/inertial navigation system (GPS/INS) integration. Having precise time synchronization is critical for achieving high data fusion performance. The limitations and advantages of various time synchronization scenarios and existing solutions are investigated in this paper. A criterion for evaluating synchronization accuracy requirements is derived on the basis of a comparison of the Kalman filter innovation series and the platform dynamics. An innovative time synchronization solution using a counter and two latching registers is proposed. The proposed solution has been implemented with off-the-shelf components and tested. The resolution and accuracy analysis shows that the proposed solution can achieve a time synchronization accuracy of 0.1 ms if INS can provide a hard-wired timing signal. A synchronization accuracy of 2 ms was achieved when the test system was used to synchronize a low-grade micro-electromechanical inertial measurement unit (IMU), which has only an RS- 232 data output interface.

        Fouling and cleaning protocols for forward osmosis membrane used for radioactive wastewater treatment

        The membrane fouling is an important problem for FO applied to the radioactive wastewater treatment. The FO fouling characteristics for simulated radioactive wastewater treatment was investigated. On-line cleaning by deionized (DI) water and external cleaning by ultrasound and HCl were applied for the fouled membrane. The effectiveness and foulant removing amount by each-step cleaning were evaluated. The membrane fouling was divided into three stages. Co(II), Sr(II), Cs(I), Na(I) were all found deposited on both active and support layers of the membrane surface, resulting in membrane surface became rougher and more hydrophobic, which increased membrane resistance. On-line cleaning by DI water recovered the water flux to 69%. HCl removed more foulants than ultrasound.
