        Objective: The purpose of this report was to provide the information about activity and safety of Ssanghwa-tang by analyzing domestic papers and theses about Ssanghwa-tang. Methods: Domestic papers and theses related to Ssanghwa-tang were reviewed and analyzed. These papers were then classified by year, experimental method, and activity subject. Results: The following results were obtained in this study. 1. The study of Ssanghwa-tang started from 1981 and continued steadily 1990s and it was decreased 2000s. 2. The paper of Ssanghwatang was entire domestic paper, 20 volumes. 3. In classified by experimental method and animal of Ssanghwa-tang paper, more than a half study used rat in vivo experiment. Furthermore clinical experiments were performed about anti-fatigue effect of Ssanghwa-tang and Ssanghwatang was proved a safety herbal medicine in acute toxicity experiment. 4. Decursin, glycyrrhizin, paeoniflorin were determined in Ssanghwa-tang by using HPLC analysis. 5. As these studies were classified by subject, papers related to anti-fatigue effect were most abundant by 7 papers. Besides there were several papers related to liver funtion, anti-inflammatory, alleviation, smooth muscle relaxation effect and so on. 6. According to experimental data, it is supported that Ssanghwa-tang was safety herbal medicine and it has a several activity about anti-fatigue, anti-inflammatory, alleviation, smooth muscle relaxation. Conclusion : Many study of basic science experiments and clinical experiments were performed and reported on Ssanghwa-tang in domestic journal. Ssanghws-tang is being used in various ways associating with anti-fatigue. anti-inflammatory. alleviation and smooth muscle relaxation. furthermore Ssanghwatang was proved a safety herbal medicine in acute toxicity experiment. However, studies on randomized controlled trials of Ssanghwatang need to be completed at the clinical level.

      • Development of hydrophobic surface substrates enabling reproducible drop-and-dry spectroscopic measurements

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We investigated several spectroscopic substrates with hydrophobic surfaces that were able to form reproducible droplets of aqueous samples for reliable high throughput drop-and-dry measurements. An amine-coated substrate, a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) disk, and a perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane (FTS) coated substrate were prepared and initially evaluated for use in the determination of fat concentrations in milks using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Since the dried milk spots were not compositionally uniform due to the localization of components during sample drying, NIR spectra were collected by fully covering each spot to ensure a correct compositional representation of the sample. The amine-coated substrate yielded more reproducible dried milk patterns because its hydrophobicity was optimal for loading an appropriate amount of milk with decreased component localization after drying. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the absorbance at 4330cm<SUP>−1</SUP> was 1.0%, thereby resulting in the more accurate determination of fat concentration. In addition, infrared (IR) spectroscopic discrimination between wild and transgenic tobaccos using their extracts was attempted. The extracted metabolites had a low concentration, so an FTS-coated CaF<SUB>2</SUB> substrate that maximized sample loading was used to improve measurement sensitivity and produce reproducible droplets. The RSD of the absorbance at 1070cm<SUP>−1</SUP> was only 0.8%. Our strategy produced droplets that had consistent sizes and provided reproducible IR spectral features, which enabled the differentiation between wild and transgenic tobacco groups in the principal component (PC) score domain.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Hydrophobic-surface substrates for drop-and-dry spectroscopic measurement were investigated. </LI> <LI> Amine- and FTS-coated substrate was optimal for analysis of milk and tobacco extract. </LI> <LI> These substrates produced reproducible sample droplets and consistent dried shapes. </LI> <LI> Also, spectra were collected by fully covering each spot for correct representation of a sample. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Fabrication of Patterned Nanofibrous Mats Using Direct-Write Electrospinning

        <P>Due to the numerous advantages of nanofibers, there is a strong demand in various fields for nanofibrous structures fabricated by electrospinning. However, the process is currently beset by troublesome limitations with respect to geometric and morphological control of electrospun nanofibrous mats. This study presents a direct-write electrospinning process and apparatus with improved focusing and scanning functionalities for the fabrication of various patterned thick mats and nanofibrous patterns with high geometric fidelity, supported by a number of experimental results. Consequently, various patterned nanofibrous mats were fabricated using the developed method. Additionally, the fabricated mat was successfully used for cell patterning as a bioengineering application.         Negotiating Identity : An Asian Migrant Language Learner Imagining the Future

        Asian migrants1 that settle in countries like NZ learn English in the hope of accessing mainstream society. However, this process presents many challenges to their identities and their sense of self worth. This paper explores one migrant’s journey. The case study of "Jessica" used a narrative approach to investigate her identity construction in trying to get entry to a degree programme. The study focuses on significant events collected from eight in-depth interviews over a period of eleven months. In the process of being originally denied entry to university, then later accepted, Jessica negotiated the negative and limited identity imposed on her, re-constructing her identity as a university student and successful language learner with increased self-value. The findings indicate the significance of imposed identities on self-value, the importance of identity negotiation and the close link to a sense of belonging in mainstream society. Journeys such as Jessica’s hopefully make policy makers and language education providers aware of the importance of the sense of self when supporting migrants who are language learners.

        A20 promotes metastasis of aggressive basal-like breast cancers through multi-monoubiquitylation of Snail1

        Although the ubiquitin-editing enzyme A20 is a key player in inflammation and autoimmunity, its role in cancer metastasis remains unknown. Here we show that A20 monoubiquitylates Snail1 at three lysine residues and thereby promotes metastasis of aggressive basal-like breast cancers. A20 is significantly upregulated in human basal-like breast cancers and its expression level is inversely correlated with metastasis-free patient survival. A20 facilitates TGF-β1-induced epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) of breast cancer cells through multi-monoubiquitylation of Snail1. Monoubiquitylated Snail1 has reduced affinity for glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β), and is thus stabilized in the nucleus through decreased phosphorylation. Knockdown of A20 or overexpression of Snail1 with mutation of the monoubiquitylated lysine residues into arginine abolishes lung metastasis in mouse xenograft and orthotopic breast cancer models, indicating that A20 and monoubiquitylated Snail1 are required for metastasis. Our findings uncover an essential role of the A20–Snail1 axis in TGF-β1-induced EMT and metastasis of basal-like breast cancers.

        Preliminary Analysis on the Effects of Tropospheric Delay Models on Geosynchronous and Inclined Geosynchronous Orbit Satellites

        This research proposes the best combination of tropospheric delay models for Korean Positioning System (KPS). The overall results are based on real observation data of Japanese Quasi-Zenith satellite system (QZSS), whose constellation is similar to the proposed constellation of KPS. The tropospheric delay models are constructed as the combinations of three types of zenith path delay (ZPD) models and four types of mapping functions (MFs). Two sets of International GNSS Service (IGS) stations with the same receiver are considered. Comparison of observation residuals reveals that the ZPD models are more influential to the measurement model rather than MFs, and that the best tropospheric delay model is the combination of GPT3 with 5 degrees grid and Vienna Mapping Function 1 (VMF1). While the bias of observation residual depends on the receivers, it still remains to be further analyzed.

        Possibility of Undifferentiated Human Thigh Adipose Stem Cells Differentiating into Functional Hepatocytes

        Background This study aimed to investigate the possibility of isolating mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from human thigh adipose tissue and the ability of human thigh adipose stem cells (HTASCs) to differentiate into hepatocytes. Methods The adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) were isolated from thigh adipose tissue. Growth factors, cytokines, and hormones were added to the collagen coated dishes to induce the undifferentiated HTASCs to differentiate into hepatocyte-like cells. To confirm the experimental results, the expression of hepatocyte-specific markers on undifferentiated and differentiated HTASCs was analyzed using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunocytochemical staining. Differentiation efficiency was evaluated using functional tests such as periodic acid schiff (PAS) staining and detection of the albumin secretion level using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results The majority of the undifferentiated HTASCs were changed into a more polygonal shape showing tight interactions between the cells. The differentiated HTASCs up-regulated mRNA of hepatocyte markers. Immunocytochemical analysis showed that they were intensely stained with anti-albumin antibody compared with undifferentiated HTASCs. PAS staining showed that HTASCs submitted to the hepatocyte differentiation protocol were able to more specifically store glycogen than undifferentiated HTASCs, displaying a purple color in the cytoplasm of the differentiated HTASCs. ELISA analyses showed that differentiated HTASCs could secrete albumin, which is one of the hepatocyte markers. Conclusions MSCs were islolated from human thigh adipose tissue differentiate to heapatocytes. The source of ADSCs is not only abundant abdominal adipose tissue, but also thigh adipose tissue for cell therapy in liver regeneration and tissue regeneration.

        The Effects of Emotional Intelligence and Service Flexibility on Customer Contact Center Employee Satisfaction and Performance

        This study examines customer center counselors engaged in emotional labor. Customer center counselors experience emotional difficulty due to the nature of their work, which is to mainly handle customer complaints and urgent requests via the phone. Previous studies on such emotional labor found that customer contact center employees with a high degree of emotional intelligence can interact with customers flexibly and overcome stress even if they experience negative emotions while delivering customer service. Additionally, they control their emotions on their own as they become inwardly motivated through self-determination and service flexibility, thereby increasing their levels of satisfaction and enhancing job performance. Moreover, higher employee satisfaction is associated with higher job performance. This study aims to provide basic data useful for corporate managers of customer contact centers by examining emotional intelligence-regulation of emotion and self-determination-service flexibility as positive factors leading to enhance employee satisfaction and service performance among customer center counselors in accordance with the aforementioned results of previous studies. The main Results of the study are as follows. Emotional intelligence-regulation of emotion and Self-determination-service flexibility were found to have a positive effect on job satisfaction among customer center counselors and the job satisfaction of counselors was found to have a positive effect on service performance.

        Acquisition of reproducible transmission near-infrared (NIR) spectra of solid samples with inconsistent shapes by irradiation with isotropically diffused radiation using polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) beads

        <P>A bead-incorporated transmission scheme (BITS) has been demonstrated for collecting reproducible transmission near-infrared (NIR) spectra of samples with inconsistent shapes. Isotropically diffused NIR radiation was applied around a sample and the surrounding radiation was allowed to interact homogeneously with the sample for transmission measurement. Samples were packed in 1.40 mm polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) beads, ideal diffusers without NIR absorption, and then transmission spectra were collected by illuminating the sample-containing beads using NIR radiation. When collimated radiation was directly applied, a small portion of the non-fully diffused radiation (NFDR) propagated through the void space of the packing and eventually degraded the reproducibility. Pre-diffused radiation was introduced by placing an additional PTFE disk in front of the packing to diminish NFDR, which produced more reproducible spectral features. The proposed scheme was evaluated by analyzing two different solid samples: density determination for individual polyethylene (PE) pellets and identification of mining locality for tourmalines. Because spectral collection was reproducible, the use of the spectrum acquired from one PE pellet was sufficient to accurately determine the density of nine other pellets with different shapes.
