Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) in Bulgaria

        Iliev, Nasko,Iliev, Ivan,Park, Young-Goo Korean Society of Forest Science 2005 한국산림과학회지 Vol.94 No.5

Robinia pseudoacacia is one of most widely cultivated exotic species in Bulgaria. The total area of black locust plantations amounts to 2.9% of the total forest area of the country. 15.34% of the plantations are of management afforestations category, where the priority is given to timber production. They have been created on rich and moisture soils, which are the most appropriate for the species in order to achieve its biological potentials of high productivity. The rest of the available plantations in the country are planted on poorer and drier soils up to 600~800 m altitude. The high adaptive ability of the species to unsuitable environmental conditions as well as the high sprout potential was used for their creation. These stands are mainly done with the aim to protect and ameliorate damaged environments and production of small-size timber and fire woods. They are cultivated until 15-20 years and are revived by sprouts. Therefore the management goals searched, 45.69% of those forests are low productive and 38.97% with average productiveness. The present report deals with growth and productivity capacity of black locust plantations; production of sowing materials; production of reproductive and vegetative saplings for afforestation; the technological aspects of afforestation works; the management and use of black locust plantations as well as some more important diseases and pests affecting the species. The report is entirely based on Bulgarian scientific research works and experience with the Robinia preudoacacia. Recommendations for optimizing the use of species are given.

Fano manifolds of Calabi-Yau Hodge type

Iliev, A.,Manivel, L. North-Holland Pub. Co 2015 Journal of pure and applied algebra Vol.219 No.6

We introduce and we study a class of odd dimensional compact complex manifolds whose Hodge structure in middle dimension looks like that of a Calabi-Yau threefold. We construct several series of interesting examples from rational homogeneous spaces with special properties.

A REFINEMENT OF THE CLASSICAL CLIFFORD INEQUALITY

Iliev, Hristo Korean Mathematical Society 2007 대한수학회지 Vol.44 No.3

We offer a refinement of the classical Clifford inequality about special linear series on smooth irreducible complex curves. Namely, we prove about curves of genus g and odd gonality at least 5 that for any linear series $g^r_d$ with $d{\leq}g+1$, the inequality $3r{\leq}d$ holds, except in a few sporadic cases. Further, we show that the dimension of the set of curves in the moduli space for which there exists a linear series $g^r_d$ with d<3r for $d{\leq}g+l,\;0{\leq}l{\leq}\frac{g}{2}-3$, is bounded by $2g-1+\frac{1}{3}(g+2l+1)$.

Can 21‐cm observations discriminate between high‐mass and low‐mass galaxies as reionization sources?

        Iliev, Ilian T.,Mellema, Garrelt,Shapiro, Paul R.,Pen, Ue‐,Li,Mao, Yi,Koda, Jun,Ahn, Kyungjin Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2012 MONTHLY NOTICES- ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY Vol.423 No.3

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>The prospect of detecting the first galaxies by observing their impact on the intergalactic medium (IGM) as they reionized it during the first billion years leads us to ask whether such indirect observations are capable of diagnosing which types of galaxies were most responsible for reionization. We attempt to answer this with new large‐scale radiative transfer simulations of reionization including the entire mass range of atomically cooling haloes (<I>M</I> > 108 M⊙). We divide these haloes into two groups, high‐mass, atomically cooling haloes, or HMACHs (<I>M</I> > 109 M⊙), and low‐mass, atomically cooling haloes, or LMACHs (108 < <I>M</I> < 109 M⊙), the latter being susceptible to negative feedback due to Jeans mass filtering in ionized regions, which leads to a process we refer to as self‐regulation. We focus here on predictions of the redshifted 21‐cm emission, to see if upcoming observations are capable of distinguishing a universe ionized primarily by HMACHs from one in which both HMACHs and LMACHs are responsible, and to see how these results depend upon the uncertain source efficiencies. We find that 21‐cm fluctuation power spectra observed by the first‐generation Epoch of Reionization 21‐cm radio interferometer arrays should be able to distinguish the case of reionization by HMACHs alone from that by both HMACHs and LMACHs, together. Some reionization scenarios, e.g. one with abundant low‐efficiency sources versus one with self‐regulation, yield very similar power spectra and rms evolution and thus can only be discriminated by their different mean reionization history and 21‐cm probability distribution function (PDF) distributions. We also find that the skewness of the 21‐cm PDF distribution smoothed with Low Frequency Array (LOFAR)‐like resolution shows a clear feature correlated with the rise of the rms due to patchiness. This is independent of the reionization scenario and thus provides a new approach for detecting the rise of large‐scale patchiness. The peak epoch of the 21‐cm rms fluctuations depends significantly on the beam and bandwidth smoothing size as well as on the reionization scenario and can occur for ionized fractions as low as 30 per cent and as high as 70 per cent. Measurements of the mean photoionization rates are sensitive to the average density of the regions being studied and therefore could be strongly skewed in certain cases. Finally, the simulation volume employed has very modest effects on the results during the early and intermediate stages of reionization, but late‐time signatures could be significantly affected.</P>

      • Double Solids, Categories and Non-Rationality

Iliev, Atanas,Katzarkov, Ludmil,Przyjalkowski, Victor Cambridge University Press 2014 Proceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society Vol.57 No.1

<B>Abstract</B><P>This paper suggests a new approach to questions of rationality of 3-folds based on category theory. Following work by Ballard <I>et al.</I>, we enhance constructions of Kuznetsov by introducing Noether-Lefschetz spectra: an interplay between Orlov spectra and Hochschild homology. The main goal of this paper is to suggest a series of interesting examples where the above techniques might apply. We start by constructing a sextic double solid <I>X</I> with 35 nodes and torsion in <I>H</I>3(<I>X, ℤ</I>). This is a novelty: after the classical example of Artin and Mumford, this is the second example of a Fano 3-fold with a torsion in the third integer homology group. In particular, <I>X</I> is non-rational. We consider other examples as well: <I>V</I>10 with 10 singular points, and the double covering of a quadric ramified in an octic with 20 nodal singular points. After analysing the geometry of their Landau-Ginzburg models, we suggest a general non-rationality picture based on homological mirror symmetry and category theory.</P>

Generalized net model of the decision making process in the crisis management

Rosen Iliev,Angel Genchev 장전수학회 2021 Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics Vol.31 No.4

The paper presents a common Generalized Net model (GN-model) of the decision-making process in crisis management using a five-transitions aggregate net. By verifying the feasibility of the solution in the last transition, the fact is taken into account that all crisis management solutions generated cannot be successfully implemented. When evaluating the parameters of the individual tokens, the possibility of using fuzzy and intuitionistic fuzzy values is envisaged.
