A 95% accurate EEG-connectome Processor for a Mental Health Monitoring System
Hyunki Kim,Kiseok Song,Taehwan Roh,Hoi-Jun Yoo 대한전자공학회 2016 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.16 No.4
An electroencephalogram (EEG)-connectome processor to monitor and diagnose mental health is proposed. From 19-channel EEG signals, the proposed processor determines whether the mental state is healthy or unhealthy by extracting significant features from EEG signals and classifying them. Connectome approach is adopted for the best diagnosis accuracy, and synchronization likelihood (SL) is chosen as the connectome feature. Before computing SL, reconstruction optimizer (ReOpt) block compensates some parameters, resulting in improved accuracy. During SL calculation, a sparse matrix inscription (SMI) scheme is proposed to reduce the memory size to 1/24. From the calculated SL information, a small world feature extractor (SWFE) reduces the memory size to 1/29. Finally, using SLs or small word features, radial basis function (RBF) kernel-based support vector machine (SVM) diagnoses user’s mental health condition. For RBF kernels, look-up-tables (LUTs) are used to replace the floating-point operations, decreasing the required operation by 54%. Consequently, The EEG-connectome processor improves the diagnosis accuracy from 89% to 95% in Alzheimer’s disease case. The proposed processor occupies 3.8 ㎟ and consumes 1.71 mW with 0.18μm CMOS technology.

AT-rich interactive domain 3A (ARID3A) is a member of the ARID family of DNA-binding proteins. Previous reports have shown that ARID3A controls cell growth in a p53-dependent manner. Recently, it has been reported that expression of the ARID3A protein was markedly increased in colon cancer tissue compared with matched normal colonic mucosa. However, little is currently known about the role of ARID3A in colorectal cancer (CRC). The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical significance of ARID3A expression in CRC.

Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) is an effector of the Hippo pathway, which is critical for regulating organ size and cell proliferation in mammals. To investigate the prognostic value of YAP1 in gastric cancer (GC), we assessed its expression in tumors from patients.

Combination Therapy Comprising a Static Magnetic Field with Contractility Improves Skin Wounds
Song, Byeong-Wook,Hong, Hyunki,Jung, Yu Jin,Lee, Ju Hyung,Kim, Bong Soo,Lee, Hoon-Bum Mary Ann Liebert 2018 Tissue engineering. Part A Vol.24 No.17

Cutaneous wounds can present significant clinical problems because of abnormal healing after deep dermal damage. Despite technical advances in wound care, there are still unmet needs that result from inefficient treatment. In this study, we aimed to improve skin wound healing using a contractibility band with static magnetic field (SMF), termed a magnetic band (Mb). To examine the effect of the Mb on wound healing, full-thickness 15x35mm excision wounds were surgically created on the dorsum of rats. An elastic and contractile band (nontreatment), or one neodymium magnet (Nd-1) or two magnets with an elastic and contractile band (Nd-2) were topically applied to the wound daily and the wound size was measured from day 1 to 7 after surgery. Nd-2 showed a significant (95%) reduction in the wound size on day 3. Histological analysis showed that proinflammatory cytokine levels were diminished by Nd-2, and granulation tissue and microvessels were increased compared with those in the sham group. During Mb-induced wound healing, apoptosis was significantly reduced and matrix remodeling-related factors were initially regulated. The results suggest that combination therapy comprising an SMF and an elastic and contractile band could be a promising tool to heal cutaneous wounds rapidly.

Vol.9 No.3
The goal of this paper is to improve the performance of Gustafson-Kessel(GK) clustering algorithm. The weakness of GK algorithm is that it could not estimate the volume of each cluster. The proposition of GK clustering algorithm is that detecting the geometrical shape of cluster. The difference of GK algorithm is to use the rho value as the volume of cluster that hardly not given as preliminary knowledge. This rho value is affected to membership of each pattern that belongs to cluster. If we do not estimate this value, then GK algorithm would not work at data that formed as clusters with different volumes. We investigated how to estimate the rho value to detect valid cluster in dataset, and demonstrated the effectiveness of proposed algorithm that does not require the rho value as parameter.
