<P>Herein, we describe an accurate method for protein quantification based on conventional acid hydrolysis and an isotope dilution-ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method. The analyte protein, recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO), was effectively hydrolyzed by incubation with 8 mol/L hydrochloric acid at 130 C for 48 h, in which at least 1 μmol/kg of rhEPO was treated to avoid possible degradation of released amino acids during hydrolysis. Prior to hydrolysis, sample solution was subjected to ultrafiltration to eliminate potential interfering substances. In a reversed-phase column, the analytes (phenylalanine, proline, and valine) were separated within 3 min using gradient elution comprising 20 % (v/v) acetonitrile and 10 mmol/L ammonium acetate, both containing 0.3 % (v/v) trifluoroacetic acid. The optimized hydrolysis and analytical conditions in our study were strictly validated in terms of accuracy and precision, and were suitable for the accurate quantification of rhEPO. Certified rhEPO was analyzed using a conventional biochemical assay kit as an additional working calibrant for the quantification of EPO and improved the accuracy. The optimized protocol is suitable for the accurate quantification of rhEPO and satisfactorily serves as a reference analytical procedure for the certification of rhEPO and similar proteins.</P>

<P>The flux-lock type superconducting fault current llmiter (SFCL) uses the magnetic coupling between two coils connected in parallel with each other. This SFCL has the merit that both the resistance of high-TC superconducting (HTSC) element and the limiting current capacity can be simultaneously increased through the application of magnetic field into HTSC element. However, like other type of SFCLs using an iron core, unless the saturation of the iron core in the design is considered, the actual limited fault currents can be higher than expected as the saturation of the iron core occurs, and can lead to damage the electrical equipment of the power system. To analyse the dependence of the fault current in the flux-lock type SFCL on the fault angles, its electrical equivalent circuit with the magnetization branch was derived. From the electrical equivalent circuit, the fault current and the inner magnetic flux considering the fault angles as well as the design parameters such as winding direction and inductance ratio of two coils were calculated. The analysis results were compared with the experimental ones, and both the results agreed.</P>

New pyrrolidinium and piperidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) ionic liquids (ILs) having allyl substituents were synthesized and characterized. All of them are liquid at room temperature and stable up to 300 oC. The pyrrolidinium-based ILs showed better conductivities and lower viscosities than the corresponding piperidinium-based ILs. Among them, 1-allyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium TFSI showed the lowest viscosity of 52 cP, the highest conductivity of 5.7 mS cm?1, and the most negative cathodic voltage window of ?3.2 V (vs. Fc/Fc+) on a platinum electrode, which are the improved results compared to the corresponding analogue having a saturated substituent, 1-methyl-1-propylpyrrolidinium TFSI.

To determine patients risk factors and compare sutures for vaginal vault dehiscence (VVD) after laparoscopic hysterectomy A retrospective analysis was performed with 1059 patients who underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy between March 2011 and May 2013. The following parameters were analyzed using independent t-test and logistic regression analysis (SPSS version 18.0 ; IBM, New York, USA) : suture approach method, continuity of suture, age, BMI, parity, blood loss, uterus weight, and total operating time. The study group was composed of 932 (88%) patients who were sutured by laparoscopic sutures and 127 (12%) patients who were sutured by transvaginal sutures. 9 patients (0.8%) out of total 1059 patients had VVD after laparoscopic hysterectomy. Although statistically not significant, this study revealed that the patients with VVD had a tendency to have greater age, total operating time, blood loss, parity and had less uterus weight. Low BMI had a statistically significant difference in VVD (p-value = 0.016). VVDs were occurred in continuous suture rather than interrupted suture without statistical significance, and also more often in transvaginal sutures for vaginal vault closure than laparoscopic sutures with statistical significance. (OR = 6.029, 1.598-22.755, P-value = 0.008) Laparoscopic sutures is associated with fewer instances of vaginal vault dehiscence than transvaginal sutures after total laparoscopic hysterectomy.
