        Polymer composite microspheres loading 177Lu radionuclide for Interventional Radioembolization therapy and Real-time SPECT imaging of Hepatic Cancer

        Background Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) with 90Y-labeled glass and resin microspheres is one of the primary treatment strategies for advanced-stage primary and metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, difficulties of real-time monitoring post administration and embolic hypoxia influence treatment prognosis. In this study, we developed a new biodegradable polymer microsphere that can simultaneously load 177Lu and MgO nanoparticle, and evaluated the TARE therapeutic efficacy and biosafety of 177Lu-PDA-CS-MgO microspheres for HCC treatment. Methods Chitosan microspheres were synthesized through emulsification crosslink reaction and then conducted surface modification with polydopamine (PDA). The 177Lu and nano MgO were conjugated to microspheres using active chemical groups of PDA. The characteristics of radionuclide loading efficiency, biodegradability, blood compatibility, and anti-tumor effectwere evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. SPECT/CT imaging was performed to monitor bio-distribution and bio-stability of 177Lu-PDA-CS-MgO after TARE treatment. The survival duration of each rat was monitored. HE analysis, TUNEL analysis, immunohistochemical analysis, and western blot analysis were conducted to explore the anti-tumor effect and mechanism of composited microspheres. Body weight, liver function, blood routine examination were monitored at different time points to evaluate the bio-safety of microspheres. Results The composite 177Lu-PDA-CS-MgO microsphere indicated satisfactory degradability, biocompatibility, radionuclide loading efficiency and radiochemical stability in vitro. Cellular evaluation showed that 177Lu-PDA-CS-MgO had significant anti-tumor effect and blocked tumor cell cycles in S phase. Surgical TARE treatment with 177Lu-PDACS- MgO significantly prolonged the medial survival time from 49 d to 105 d, and effectively inhibited primary tumor growth and small metastases spreading. Moreover, these microspheres indicated ideal in vivo stability and allowed real-time SPECT/CT monitoring for up to 8 weeks. Immunostaining and immunoblotting results also confirmed that 177Lu-PDA-CS-MgO had potential in suppressing tumor invasion and angiogenesis, and improved embolic hypoxia in HCC tissues. Further evaluations of body weight, blood test, and pathological analysis indicated good biosafety of 177Lu-PDA-CS-MgO microspheres in vivo. Conclusion Our study demonstrated that 177Lu-PDA-CS-MgO microsphere hold great potential as interventional brachytherapy candidate for HCC therapy.         Preliminary Study of the Effect of Secondary Airflow on Fiber Attenuation During Melt Blowing

        In order to enhance the fiber attenuation during the melt-blown process, a pair of air nozzle, which could eruptairflow as secondary airflow, below the spinning die was arranged and used. Firstly, the effect of applying secondary airflowon the whole airflow was explored by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. The simulation results demonstratethe interactive relationship between the primary airflow from the spinning die and the secondary airflow. Then, the airvelocity of the whole airflow at conditions of with and without secondary airflow was experimental verified. Finally, theeffect of secondary airflow on the fiber diameter and the fiber evenness was investigated by a spinning experiment. Thespinning results reveals that the application of secondary airflow does not certainly enhance the fiber attenuation. The fiberdiameter decreases only when the inlet velocity of secondary airflow is higher than a critical value. In addition, the spinningexperiment indicates that the application of secondary airflow improves the evenness of fiber.

        Normal Force and Vibration Analysis of Linear Permanent-Magnet Vernier Machine

        This paper presents an analytical method for calculating the magnetic field in a new linear permanent-magnet vernier (LPMV) machine, thus predicting the electromagnetic vibration. The main vibration source is the normal force between the mover and the stator of the LPMV machine. Firstly, the air-gap flux density is calculated and analyzed using the rotor permeance to modulate the magneto-motive force, and is verified by the finite element (FE) results. Then, the harmonics of the normal force density is calculated, the normal force and thrust force are analyzed. Secondly, the natural vibration modes and the transient displacement of the mover are predicted by FE method, and the relationship between the normal force density and the vibration is determined. Finally, experimental results are given for verification. This study is instructive for the design of a high-precision and low-vibration LPMV machine.

        Chloride Ion Invasive Behavior of Recycled Aggregate Concrete under Coupling Flexural Loading and Wetting-Drying Cycles

        In this paper, the invasive behavior of chloride ion has been investigated under the coupling action of wetting-drying cycles and flexural load on recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) beams in sodium chloride solution. The permeation properties of chloride in RAC were studied by analyzing the content, binding capacity and diffusion coefficient of chloride. The priority of interfacial transition zone (ITZ) for chloride transport in RAC was analyzed by energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). Additionally, the distribution of chloride content in concrete was predicted. The results indicated that the micro-pore structure, initial damage and micro-cracks provide more paths for the diffusion of chloride in the RAC. The binding capacity of chloride diminished with the incorporation of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) and the exertion of flexural load, which increased the chloride diffusion coefficient. The correctness of Fick's second diffusion law was verified via applying it to the data processing. Furthermore, the convection and diffusion zones had the significant influence on the distribution of chloride.

        Antibiotic resistance, biochemical typing, and PFGE typing of Bifidobacterium strains commonly used in probiotic health foods

        This study firstly analyzed the antibiotic resistance, biochemical typing, and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis typing of 45 Bifidobacterium strains commonly used in health foods. Most strains were resistant to antibiotics but their antibiotic resistance rates were not high: Fos (56.52%), TET (43.48%), CRO (21.74%), AMC (15.22%), GEN (13.04%), RIF (10.87%), CHL (8.7%), CTX (6.52%), VAN (4.35%), and ERY (4.35%). The 45 strains could be divided into 14 pulsed-field gel electrophoresis types, of which the strain numbers of six pulsed-field gel electrophoresis types were more than one. All the Bifidobacterium strains could be divided into nine types by API50CHL biochemical identification. The same species displayed same biochemical typings, expect for B. animalis. Furthermore, the results confirmed that the same pulsed-field gel electrophoresis-type strains had closer antibiotic resistance patterns, and the same biochemicaltype strain also had similar antibiotic resistance patterns.

        A review of experimental methods for characterising composite viscosities of continuous fibre-reinforced polymer composites

        Optimisation design of composite structures requires an accurate predictive model for forming behaviour. The simulation process contains a number of model parameters which include transverse and longitudinal viscosities of continuous fibrereinforced viscous composites, fundamental to predicting the shear rheology. Shearing the unidirectional composite along the fibre direction gives a measure of the longitudinal viscosity (LV), whilst shearing across or transverse to the fibre direction gives a measure of the transverse viscosity (TV). Numerous experimental work was conducted in the past to measure these two viscosities for various materials. However, conflicting measurements by different test methods were obtained and these apparent discrepancies had not yet been systematically investigated in any single study. This paper reviews previous work on characterisation techniques to further understand the cause of such discrepancy, and hence to improve measurement accuracy, which would benefit future work on theoretical modelling of the composite viscosities and optimisation simulation of composites forming. Some important findings, such as effects of resin-rich areas, contributory factors of elastic effects, non-Newtonian behaviour for composites with Newtonian matrix, aspect ratio and end effects of test samples, geometry effects of fibres and fibre rearrangement during shearing, existence of a mathematical relationship between LV and TV and necessary benchmarking exercise using Newtonian matrix composites, were summarised.
