        요추부 후방 골유합술시 제4요추 분절동맥의 손상에 의해 발생된 후복막하 혈종의 코일 색전술 치험 1례

        In spine sugery, iatrogenic vascular injury is unusual, and most common vascular injury is said to be a tear of the left common iliac artery. We report a case of retroperitoneal hematoma from lumbar segmental artery injury after posterior lumbar fusion and pedicle screw fixation. This 60-year-old woman presented with 6 months history of low back pain and radiating pain to the left lower leg. She complained of claudication after 10 meters walking due to spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis at L2-L5 level. She underwent multiple total laminectomy, posterior lumbar inter-body fusion, and transpedicular screw at L2-L5. During operation there was not evidence of complications such as bleeding. She complained of abdominal pain on post-operation I day and showed tenderness on left upper quadrant. Hemoglobin was 8.4 g/dL on postoperative laboratory examination. Abdominal CT scan revealed retroperitoneal hematoma. We performed angiography for evaluation of hematoma and found extravasation of dye at segmental artery of L4 level. We embolized the bleeding artery with coil successfully. Her postoperative abdominal pain and tenderness were relieved after then and discharged without pain or neurological deficit.

        A Combination of Melphalan, Prednisone, and 50 mg Thalidomide Treatment in Non-Transplant-Candidate Patients with Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma

        Background/Aims: The clinical efficacy and safety of a three-drug combination of melphalan, prednisone, and thalidomide were assessed in patients with multiple myeloma who were not candidates for high-dose therapy as a firstline treatment. Because the side effects of thalidomide at a dose of ≥ 100 mg daily can be a barrier to effective treatment for these patients, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of a reduced dose of thalidomide, 50 mg, for non-transplant candidates. Methods: Twenty-one patients were treated in 4-week cycles, receiving 4 mg/m2 melphalan and 40 mg/m2 prednisone on days 1-7 and 50 mg thalidomide daily. The primary efficacy outcome was the overall response rate. Aspirin (100 mg daily) was also provided as prophylactic treatment for thromboembolism. Results: The overall response rate was 57.1%; a complete response was seen in 23.8% of patients, a partial response in 33.3%, and stable disease in 9.5%. After a median follow-up time of 16.1 months, the median time to progression was 11.4 months (95% confidence interval, 2.1 to 20.6); the median overall survival was not reached. Grades 3 and 4 adverse events included infection (10%), peripheral neuropathy (5%), diarrhea (5%), thrombosis (10%), and loss of consciousness (10%). Two patients discontinued treatment due to loss of consciousness and neuropathy. Conclusions: Low-dose thalidomide (50 mg) plus melphalan and prednisone is an effective combination drug therapy option for newly diagnosed myeloma patients who are ineligible for high-dose chemotherapy.

        여성노인의 저항운동 시 세트구성 방법의 차이가 Myokine에 미치는 영향

        연구목적: 본 연구는 여성노인을 대상으로 저항운동 시 사용되는 set구성 방법에 중 ascending set, descending set, drop set를 각각 적용시켜 Myokine의 변화를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법: 연구대상은 노인복지시설을 이용하고 있는 만 65-72세 사이의 여성노인 32명을 대상으로 ascending set, 8명, descending set 8명, drop set 8명, control group 8명으로 구분하였다. 자료처리는 반복측정에 의한 이원변량분석(two-way ANOVA with repeated measure)을 사용하였으며, 유의도는 .05로 하였다. 결론: 운동프로그램은 12주간 주 3회 실시하였으며, 신체구성과 IL-15, BDNF, VEGF, Irisin의 변화를 관찰하였다. 연구결과 신체구성의 체중, 체지방률, 제지방량 모두 유의한 차이가 없었다. IL-15와 BDNF는 운동 전·후의 비교결과 Descending set와 Drop set에서 운동 후 유의하게 증가하였고, 집단 간의 차이에서 Descending set와 Drop set 집단이 대조집단에 비하여 높게 나타났다. VEGF는 운동 전·후의 비교결과 Descending set와 Drop set 집단이 유의하게 증가하였으며, 집단 간의 차이에서 Descending set와 Drop set가 Ascending set와 control group 보다 높게 나타났다. Irisin은 집단 간 차이는 없었지만 Ascending, Descending, Drop set집단에서 운동 전에 비하여 운동 후 유의한 차이로 증가하였다.. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the change of Myokine by applying ascending set, descending set, and drop set which are set composition used during elderly women’s resistance training. Method: 32 participants aged 65 to 72 who were users of welfare facilities for the aged were divided into 4 groups. They were ascending set group of 8, descending set group of 8, drop set group of 8, and control group of 8. The training program was conducted 3 times a week for 12 weeks and the change of body composition, IL-15(interleukin-15), BDNF(brain derived neurotrophic factor), VEGF(Vascular endothelial growth factor) and Irisin was observed. Two-way ANOVA with repeated measure was used for data processing. Result: The result of this study is as follows. Weight, %fat, and LBM(lean body mass) without fat showed no significant change. IL-15 and BDNF increased significantly after training in Descending set group(p<.05; p<.01)and Drop set group(p<.01; p<.05). VEGF significantly increased in descending set group(p<.01) and drop set group(p<.05). Among groups, VEGF was higher in descending set and drop set groups than ascending set and control groups. Irisin showed no difference between groups, but it showed significant increase after training in ascending(p<.05), descending(p<.05), and drop set groups(p<.05).

        35㎓ 대역의 도파관 모노펄스 비교기 설계 및 제작

        In this paper, we design, fabricate and test a 35㎓ waveguide monopulse comparator for use in a tracking radar. The proposed comparator is consisted of four 180° E-plane ring hybrid couplers placed on a single plane. The comparator has four input ports mating with a monopulse feed horn and three output ports corresponding to the sum, azimuth and elevation difference channels. Waveguide sections and bends are utilized in connecting input and output waveguides to the comparator. The whole structure is fabricated in three pieces using the widely-used split-block waveguide machining techniques. Measurements of the fabricated comparator show reflection coefficient less than -20㏈, amplitude balance better than ±0.6㏈, phase balance better than ±5° at all channels, which are in good agreement with simulations.

        This paper, coauthored by Chin-Se Chung, as well as other 5 faculty members at Hong-Ik University Department of Law (Jea-Hwang Jeong, Suk-Ho Bang, Tae-Hoon Ha, Seong-Deog Yi and Bong-Chul Choi), deals with liability issuses surrounding constitutional law, administrative law, civil law (contracts, torts), commercial law, criminal law, international law and philosophy & law. Professor of Law Jea-Hwang Jeong makes a comparative analysis of privacy protection and disclosure of information legal issues, appeared at current Korean law and draft of law in case of the latter one. He suggestes some desirable ways of legislation through revision process and operation of legal rules at his paper. Professor of Law Suk-Ho Bang makes a brief survey of civil liability issues arising out of contracts and torts in English and American law, first. He tries to show that many Parts of arguments in such legal world are attributed to Statute of Frauds tradition, unique to such legal world. New developments in the area of torts, including computer malpractice and computer virus, are shown and analysed in terms of application possibility under our current law. But, as even the Anglo-American courts are found very reluctant to accept those arguments as new grounds for torts liability, it seems more plausible and practicable to refer to contractual approach, basically, rather than to torts approach even under English American law. Professor of Law Chin-Se Chung suggests in his paper on EFT that the allocation of liability under EFT be made under the new and most relevant principle, working for useful transmission way of fund, not solely under traditional legal principles. If such new principle works with high return of risk to users, it makes imminent problems against the goats of consumer protection, and eventually will be hardly refered to. Conversely, if it requires too much sacrifice from the side of banks, then the convenience in such system will not be utilized. So, it may be natural that EFT be discarded even without proper functioning under market system. In conclusion, Professor Chung points out that, only when banks fond that the economy out of cost-saving at tasks outweighs the risk undertaken by the banks, the banks will operate the system. But, if this system makes more return of benefits to the banks with the burden of users, it is against the idea of equity. Consequently, the banks should bear the aggeviated risks in return for the cost saved under this system Professor of Law Tae-Hoon Ha focuses his research paper on criminal liability under EFT. He draws his conclusion out of current criminal statutes that illegal fund transfer under automatic teller machines, cash cards and information system can not be penalized due to lack of proper statutory provision. So, the criminal provision on computer crime, newly made on December of 1995, can be positively appreciated. But, he anticipates that the question whether such new provision will be successful in regulating all illegal activites at fund transfor system without any operation defects in criminal code, or will cause new problem in interpretation of criminal code remains unsolved. Professor of Law Seong-Deog Yi examines the international legal issues which may be given rise to by direct satellite broadcasting. In his paper, the issue of national jurisdiction in relation to direct satellite broadcasting is firstly dealt with. Secondly, the possible ways in which direct satellite broadcasting is regulated by international law are examined with special emphasis of two different approaches, that is, freedom of information approach and state sovereignty approach. In this context, many international conventions concerning direct satellite broadcasting in Particular, and international regulatory regime of outer space in general are broadly reviewed. Thirdly, the types of activities which may be a violation of international legal regime of direct satellite broadcasting are suggested and the possible lethal remedies for these violations are proposed with the traditional international state responsibility law in mind. Professor of Law Bong-Chul Choi explores the relations of computerized society to its laws throughout his paper as a kind of conclusion of this whole paper. Computerized society is one that the technical, scientific, informational knowledge prevails. With correspondence to the structural change in knowledge, the law of such a society has suffered transformation, and the knowledge and techniques distributing and computing legal responsibility has also changed. However, he does not insist that the diffusion of technical knowledge is the sole factor of the transformation of legal responsibility. It is only one of the various factors. Moreover, he does not deny the continuation between the classical techniques distributing legal responsibility and the contemporary ones. In this era, the law realizes fairness and community values at the expense of singularities. In addition, he proposes that legal scholars take the diagnosis of law from the perspective of the technology/knowledge shifts seriously.

      • Effect of microwave irradiation on the electrical and optical properties of SnO<sub>2</sub> thin films

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report the electrical and optical characteristics of SnO<SUB>2</SUB> thin films irradiated by microwaves (MWs) and grown using atomic layer deposition in a commercial MW oven operating at a frequency of 2.45 GHz. The properties of the MW-irradiated SnO<SUB>2</SUB> thin films were compared with those of the as-deposited SnO<SUB>2</SUB> thin films. After MW irradiation, the conductivity and transparency of the thin films were enhanced. In addition, the samples irradiated for 5 min showed optimal carrier concentration, Hall mobility, resistivity, and transmittance values of 1.5 × 10<SUP>20</SUP> cm<SUP>−3</SUP>, 4.6 cm<SUP>2</SUP>/V s, 8 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> Ω cm, and 95.77%, respectively. The improved properties of the MW-irradiated samples were attributed mainly to the formation of an oxygen vacancy in the SnO<SUB>2</SUB> lattice during MW irradiation. Our results can be applied for the fabrication of pure SnO<SUB>2</SUB>-based transparent conductive oxides; these oxides are generally doped with other elements.</P>

      • A New Dual Circularly Polarized Feed Employing a Dielectric Cylinder-Loaded Circular Waveguide Open End Fed by Crossed Dipoles

        <P>This paper presents a new dual circularly polarized feed that provides good axial ratio over wide angles and low cross-polarized radiation in backward direction. A circular waveguide open end is fed with two orthogonally polarized waves in phase quadrature by a pair of printed crossed dipoles and a compact connectorized quadrature hybrid coupler. The waveguide aperture is loaded with a dielectric cylinder to reduce the cross-polarization beyond 90 degrees off the boresight. The fabricated feed has, at 5.5 GHz, 6.33-dBic copolarized gain, 3-dB beamwidth of 106°, 10-dB beamwidth of 195°, 3-dB axial ratio beamwidth of 215°, maximum cross-polarized gain of −21.4 dBic, and 27-dB port isolation. The reflection coefficient of the feed is less than −10 dB at 4.99–6.09 GHz.</P>

        Conflict in the Shadow of Conflict

        We study how an advantage given to an interim winner in sequential conflicts characterizes dynamic competition between players and influences their payoffs. As the intensity of competition during each period is negatively correlated, perfect security is not necessarily desirable for contending parties. We present results which are widely applicable to various types of dynamic competition, where competition in each period is linked to the interim winner's relative advantage. Policy implications are also discussed in a variety of areas, and several extensions are explored.

        Selective NO<sub>2</sub> sensor based on Bi<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> branched SnO<sub>2</sub> nanowires

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We present a highly sensitive and selective NO<SUB>2</SUB> sensor based on Bi<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> branched SnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanowires (NWs). SnO<SUB>2</SUB> NWs were first synthesized by a vapor-liquid-solid method, were coated with an Au layer, and Bi<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> branches were grown on their stems by the same procedure used for pure Bi powders. The fabricated sensor showed a high response (R<SUB>g</SUB>/R<SUB>a</SUB>) of 56.92 to 2 ppm of NO<SUB>2</SUB> gas at an optimal temperature. Furthermore, its response to other interfering gases such as ethanol, acetone, toluene, and benzene, was less than 1.55, which demonstrated excellent selectivity of the sensor towards NO<SUB>2</SUB> gas. For comparison and to better understand the sensing mechanism, a pristine SnO<SUB>2</SUB> NWs sensor was also tested. The superior sensing properties of the branched NW sensor relative to the pristine sensor were mainly attributed to the high surface area of the sensor resulting from Bi<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> branching, as well as the formation of homo-and heterojunctions (Bi<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>-SnO<SUB>2</SUB>). In addition, several factors including the presence of Au contributed to the excellent selectivity to NO<SUB>2</SUB> gas.
