        The Correlation between the Injury Patterns of the Medial Patellofemoral Ligament in an Acute First-Time Lateral Patellar Dislocation on MR Imaging and the Incidence of a Second-Time Lateral Patellar Dislocation

        Objective: To evaluate the correlation between the injury patterns of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) on magnetic resonance imaging in an acute first-time lateral patellar dislocation (LPD) and incidence of a second-time LPD. Materials and Methods: Magnetic resonance images were prospectively analyzed in 147 patients after an acute first-time LPD with identical nonoperative management. The injury patterns of MPFL in acute first-time LPDs were grouped by location and severity for the analysis of the incidence of second-time LPD in a 5-year follow-up. Independent t tests, chi-square tests and Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed as appropriate. Results: Forty-six cases (46/147, 31.3%) of second-time LPD were present at the 5-year follow-up. Fourteen (14/62, 22.6%) and 31 cases (31/80, 38.8%) were present in the partial and complete MPFL tear subgroups, respectively. Twenty-five cases (25/65, 38.5%), 11 cases (11/26, 42.3%), and 8 cases (8/47, 17%) were present in the isolated femoral-side MPFL tear (FEM), combined MPFL tear (COM), and isolated patellar-side MPFL tear (PAT) subgroups, respectively. Compared with the partial MPFL tears, complete tears showed higher incidence of a second-time LPD (p = 0.04). The time interval between the two LPDs was shorter in the complete MPFL tear subgroup (24.2 months) than in the partial tear subgroup (36.9 months, p = 0.001). Compared with the PAT subgroup, the FEM and COM subgroups showed a higher incidence of a second-time LPD (p = 0.025). The time intervals between the two LPDs were shorter in the FEM and COM subgroups (20.8 months and 19.2 months) than in the PAT subgroup (32.5 months, p = 0.049). Conclusion: A complete MPFL tear, isolated femoral-side tear and combined tear in a first-time LPD predispose a second-time LPD.

      • <i>Haloactinopolyspora alkaliphila</i> sp. nov., and emended description of the genus <i>Haloactinopolyspora</i>

        <P>A facultatively alkaliphilic actinomycete strain, designated EGI 80088<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from a saline-alkali soil sample from Xinjiang province, north-west China, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic characterization. Strain EGI 80088<SUP>T</SUP> formed fragmented aerial hyphae and short spore chains, and rod-like spores aggregated at maturity. Whole-cell hydrolysates of the isolate contained <SMALL>ll</SMALL>-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid, and glucosamine, mannose, galactose, glucose and rhamnose as the marker sugars. The major fatty acids identified (>5 %) were anteiso-C<SUB>15 : 0</SUB>, iso-C<SUB>15 : 0</SUB>, summed feature 4 (iso-C<SUB>17 : 1</SUB>I/anteiso-C<SUB>17 : 1</SUB>B), iso-C<SUB>16 : 0</SUB> and anteiso-C<SUB>17 : 0</SUB>. The predominant menaquinone was MK-9(H<SUB>4</SUB>). The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain EGI 80088<SUP>T</SUP> was 70.6 mol%. EGI 80088<SUP>T</SUP> showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to its closest phylogenetic neighbour <I>Haloactinopolyspora alba</I> YIM 93246<SUP>T</SUP> (98.5 %). The DNA–DNA relatedness value of the strain EGI 80088<SUP>T</SUP> and <I>H. alba</I> YIM 93246<SUP>T</SUP> was 59.3±5.2 %. On the basis of morphological, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic characteristics and DNA–DNA hybridization data, strain EGI 80088<SUP>T</SUP> represents a novel species of the genus <I>Haloactinopolyspora</I>, for which the name <I>Haloactinopolyspora alkaliphila</I> sp. nov. (type strain EGI 80088<SUP>T</SUP> = BCRC 16946<SUP>T</SUP> = JCM 19128<SUP>T</SUP>) is proposed. The description of the genus <I>Haloactinopolyspora</I> has also been emended.</P>

        Ginsenoside Ro, an oleanolic saponin of Panax ginseng, exerts antiinflammatory effect by direct inhibiting toll like receptor 4 signaling pathway

        Background: Panax ginseng Meyer (P. ginseng), a herb distributed in Korea, China and Japan, exerts benefits on diverse inflammatory conditions. However, the underlying mechanism and active ingredients remains largely unclear. Herein, we aimed to explore the active ingredients of P. ginseng against inflammation and elucidate underlying mechanisms. Methods: Inflammation model was constructed by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in C57BL/6 mice and RAW264.7 macrophages. Molecular docking, molecular dynamics, surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi) and immunofluorescence were utilized to predict active component. Results: P. ginseng significantly inhibited LPS-induced lung injury and the expression of proinflammatory factors, including TNF-a, IL-6 and IL-1b. Additionally, P. ginseng blocked fluorescence-labeled LPS (LPS488) binding to the membranes of RAW264.7 macrophages, the phosphorylation of nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). Furthermore, molecular docking demonstrated that ginsenoside Ro (GRo) docked into the LPS binding site of toll like receptor 4 (TLR4)/myeloid differentiation factor 2 (MD2) complex. Molecular dynamic simulations showed that the MD2-GRo binding conformation was stable. SPRi demonstrated an excellent interaction between TLR4/MD2 complex and GRo (KD value of 1.16 × 10<SUP>-9</SUP> M). GRo significantly inhibited LPS488 binding to cell membranes. Further studies showed that GRo markedly suppressed LPS-triggered lung injury, the transcription and secretion levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β. Moreover, the phosphorylation of NF-kB and MAPKs as well as the p65 subunit nuclear translocation were inhibited by GRo dose-dependently. Conclusion: Our results suggest that GRo exerts anti-inflammation actions by direct inhibition of TLR4 signaling pathway.

        A monophosphonic group-functionalized ion-imprinted polymer for a removal of Fe3+ from highly concentrated basic chromium sulfate solution

        An ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) with monophosphonic groups was prepared by thermal copolymerization. Bis(2-methacryloxyethyl) phosphate (BMAOP) was used as functional monomer to react with Fe3+ in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) was used as cross-linker during polymerization process. A suitable molar ratio of BMAOP to Fe3+ was investigated by UV/Vis/NIR Spectrometer and ICP-OES. The obtained results showed that the monophosphonic groups could be selectively combined with Fe3+ in solutions containing other coexisting ions, and the selectivity could be further enhanced by ion-imprinted process. The prepared IIP was used for removing trace Fe3+ from high concentration basic chromium sulfate solutions. After adsorption process, the concentration of Fe3+ could be reduced from 4.486mg L1 to 0.171mg L1, which was much lower than the concentration in the solution treated by non-imprinted polymer (NIP). Moreover, the IIP exhibited excellent recyclability after six adsorption-desorption cycles.

        한국 산업단지의 효율성과 생산성 : 2001-2019

        한국 국가산업단지들은 효율성에서 차이가 확연하며, 수도권과 영남권의 산업단지들이 상대적으로 규모에 비하여 효율적이다. 총요소생산성은 그다지 빠르게 증가하지 않았으며, 내부적인 기술적 효율성 변화보다는 외부적인 기술 변화에 의하여 주도되었다. 총요소생산성과 기술적 효율성은 권역 간에 차이가 크고, 특히 충청호남권이 여타 권역에 비하여 낮은 것으로 나타났지만, 기술 변화는 권역 간에 차이를 확인하기 어렵다. 국가산업단지의 효율성을 높이기 위해서 규모에 비하여 효율성이 낮은 산업단지들을 대상으로 효율성이 높은 수도권과 영남권 산업단지들을 벤치마킹하도록 할 필요가 있으며, 생산성 향상을 위하여 기술의 도입과 적용 및 확산을 촉진하는 정책을 적극 추진하는 것이 바람직하다. This paper analyzes the efficiency and productivity of the main 20 industrial complexes in Korea from 2001 to 2019 based on the DEA Model and Malmquist Index Method. Production amount and export sales value of the 20 National Industrial Complexes are used as output variables, while industrial land area, number of operating companies, rate of operation, and the number of employees are used as input variables. In this analysis, the industrial complexes show a big difference in their efficiency and those of the Capital Area and the Southeastern(Youngnam) area are revealed to be comparatively efficient relative to their scale. The increase of total factor productivity has not been so fast, and it was driven not by that of technical efficiency but by technical change. Out of the 3 main areas in Korea Western area (Chungcheong & Honam) has been clearly lower in their total factor productivity and technical efficiency, but we can not confirm there has been clear difference in their technical change among them.

        중국 주요 물류기업의 운영 효율성 분석

        중국의 35개 상장물류기업들은 2015∼2020년의 5년간 효율성이 매우 빠르게 증가하였다. 중국 정부의 물류산업 중장기발전계획을 비롯한 다양한 지원정책들이 효과를 나타내고 있음을 시사한다. 하지만 중국 물류기업들의 효율성 증가는 일부 기업들의 매우 빠른 성장에 기인하고 기업별로 편차가 크다. 기업들의 흥망성쇠도 비교적 빈번할 뿐만 아니라 규모에 대한 효율성도 최근까지크게 개선되지 않고 있다. 총요소생산성지수(TFPI)로 산정한 생산성 역시 5년간 매우 빠르게 상승하였는데, 기술변화지수(TCI)와변화 양상이 매우 유사하였다. 반면 기술적효율성변화지수(TEI)는 같은 기간에 거의 변동이 없었다. 결국, 중국 상장물류기업의 총요소생산성은 내부적인 생산요소의 효율적 결합에 의한 효율화보다는 외부환경 요인으로서 기술 변화가 주도한 것으로 판단된다. This paper analyzes the efficiency and productivity of the leading 35 logistics companies in China from 2015 to 2020 based on the DEA Model and Malmquist Index Method. We use assets, capital, and operating cost of the 35 logistics companies as input variables, while operating revenue, net profit, earning per share, and inventory turnover rate as output ones. In this analysis, we find that China’s leading logistics companies have increased operational efficiency measured by DEA methodology very fast, while the increase was led by a few companies. Furthermore the disparity of increasing rate between them was very big, and the companies have often risen and fallen. The increase in total factor productivity index (TFPI) of the companies during the same period has also been very fast and parallel with that of the Technical Change Index (TCI) whereas the technical Efficiency Change Index (TEI) has little changed, which implies that the productivity increase has been driven not by the endeavor of the companies to combine production factors more efficiently but by the technology change external to the companies.

        Melatonin Attenuates Noise Stress-induced Gastrointestinal Motility Disorder and Gastric Stress Ulcer: Role of Gastrointestinal Hormones and Oxidative Stress in Rats

        Background/Aims There are increasing evidences for gastrointestinal motility disorder (GIMD) and gastric stress ulcer induced by noise stress. The present study was to investigate the reversed effect of melatonin on GIMD and gastric stress ulcer induced by noise stress and potential mechanism. Methods Noise stress was induced on rats, and melatonin (15 mg/kg) was administered to rats by intraperitoneal injection. Differences were assessed in gastric residual rate (GRR), small intestine propulsion rate (SPR), Guth injury score, cortisol, gastrointestinal hormones (calcitonin-gene-related peptide and motilin) and oxidative stress markers (superoxide dismutase and malondialde hyde) in blood plasma as well as gastric mucosa homogenate with or without melatonin. The pathological examination of gastric mucosa was also performed. Results The GRR and SPR were improved by noise stress compared with control (P < 0.05). The pathological examination and Guth injury score revealed gastric stress ulcer. Moreover, the levels of cortisol, motilin and malondialdehyde in blood plasma and malondialdehyde in gastric mucosa homogenate were increased by noise stress (P < 0.05). CGRP and superoxide dismutase activity in both of blood plasma and gastric mucosa homogenate were significantly decreased (P< 0.05). Furthermore, melatonin reversed changes in GRR, SPR, pathological examination, Guth injury score, cortisol, motilin, CGRP, superoxide dismutase activity and malondialdehyde (P < 0.05). Conclusions Melatonin is effective in reversing the GIMD and gastric stress ulcer induced by noise stress. The underlying mechanism may be involved in oxidative stress and gastrointestinal hormones.         Plasma Membrane as the Target Site of Cholic Acid Analogs

        Although the mechanism is unknown, Calculus Bovis and its active components, cholic acid analogs (CAAs), have been used in China to treat a wide range of diseases. Based on the previous finding that the potency of CAA is strongly dependent on the intrinsic surface activity, this paper aimed to investigate the role of the plasma membrane in the pharmacological activity of CAAs. First, CAAs (0.1 mM) caused a surface activity-dependent depression on ATPase activity in the cell membrane extract, but it had no effects on other cellular extracts, suggesting an indispensable role of the membrane environment for pharmacological activity. Second, CAAs lowered the membrane fluidity of cultured Caco-2 cells with the same rank-order of potency sequence. Third, the hypothesis that any functional protein located on the membrane is influenced by changes in cellular membrane fluidity was supported by: ileal contraction that was induced by acetylcholine and mediated by the muscarinic receptor (M-receptor) or the relaxation induced by adrenaline and mediated by the β-adrenergic receptor (β-receptor) was inhibited by CAAs. They also had similar rank-order of potency and the effects on the plasma membrane. Collectively, the plasma membrane may be a target for the CAAs to exert the multiple pharmacological effects which are mediated by the alteration of the membrane mobility and the function of integral membrane proteins.
