Two new species of Camellia (Theaceae) are described from Vietnam: Camellia vuquangensis Luong, Tran & L. T. Nguyen and Camellia hatinhensis Luong, Tran & L. T. Nguyen. The new taxa were col- lected from Vu Quang National Park in the center of Vietnam. The new finds are morphologically dissimilar to all known Camellia species. Recent Camellia discoveries have increased the number of species recorded in Viet- nam from 50 to 75, making Vietnam a center of diversity and a crucial area for more research into the diversity and distributions of Camellia.

The linear motor has been widely applied in industry to provide directly straight motion. The Polysolenoid Linear Motor (PLM), as its name, is one type of the synchronous linear machine. Toward the control problem of the PLM, state observation plays a crucial role due to the lack of measurement. In this paper, an Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filter (AUKF), which can provide reliable information of system state including applied current as well as position and velocity, is proposed. Furthermore, our observer can deal with the uncertainty load force and unknown unbias measurement noises adaptively, which contributes to robust and effective control of PLM with uncertain load condition. A scenario will be made to test the robutness of the algorithm under the value variation of measurement noise covariance. The performance of the system is verified by simulation in an illustrative example.

<P>Crystalline structure and optoelectrical properties of silver-doped tin monoxide thin films with different dopant concentrations prepared by DC magnetron sputtering are investigated. The X-ray diffraction patterns reveal that the tetragonal SnO phase exhibits preferred orientations along (101) and (110) planes. Our results indicate that replacing Sn2+ in the SnO lattice with Ag+ ions produces smaller-sized crystallites, which may lead to enhanced carrier scattering at grain boundaries. This causes a deterioration in the carrier mobility, even though the carrier concentration improves by two orders of magnitude due to doping. In addition, the Ag-doped SnO thin films show a p-type semiconductor behavior, with a direct optical gap and decreasing transmittance with increasing Ag dopant concentration.</P>

We report here a simple approach for synthesis of carbon coated magnetite (C@MFe2O4, M=Co, Ni, Fe) with shell@core nanostructured composites that we used as magnetic-nanosorbents for direct yellow (DYG) and moderacid red (RS) as pollutant textile dyes removal via an adsorption process. The synthesized C@MFe2O4 was characterized by TEM, SEM, EDX, XRD, FT-IR and VSM techniques. TEM results indicated that C@MFe2O4 nanocomposites have 20-30 nm of MFe2O4 nanoparticle core and 2-3 nm in thickness of the amorphous carbon shell. The synthesized C@MFe2O4 nanocomposites have the zero point charge (pHZPC) at 5.5, which suggests that DYG and RS, anionic dyes can be adsorbed onto the C@MFe2O4 nanosorbents in the acidic medium. Adsorption of DYG and RS onto magnetic nanosorbents was optimized and adsorption thermodynamic parameters were evaluated, clearly indicating that the adsorption of RS onto synthesized magnetic-nanosorbents was facile more than that DYG. The adsorption isotherm data showed that the adsorption processes of DYG and RS onto Fe3O4 or C@MFe2O4 nanosorbents are more suitable for the Langmuir model than Freundlich model. The maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) of DYG dye onto Fe3O4, C@Fe3O4 and C@CoFe2O4 adsorbents was 14.641, 36.232 and 7.85mg g1, respectively; meanwhile, these values were 41.152, 61.728 and 39.683mg g1 for RS dye. These obtained data indicate that the developed Fe3O4, C@Fe3O4 and C@CoFe2O4 nanoparticles can be used as recoverable and recyclable adsorbents for not only organic pigments adsorption but also for heavy metal ion removal or protein extraction as well.

Objective: The rapid and reliable detection of the African swine fever virus (ASFV) plays an important role in emergency control and preventive measures of ASF. Some methods have been recommended by FAO/OIE to detect ASFV in clinical samples, including real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). However, mismatches in primer and probe binding regions may cause a false-negative result. Here, a slight modification in probe sequence has been conducted to improve the qualification of real-time PCR based on World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) protocol for accurate detection of ASFV in field samples in Vietnam. Methods: Seven positive confirmed samples (four samples have no mismatch, and three samples contained one mutation in probe binding sites) were used to establish novel real-time PCR with slightly modified probe (Y = C or T) in comparison with original probe recommended by OIE. Results: Both real-time PCRs using the OIE-recommended probe and novel modified probe can detect ASFV in clinical samples without mismatch in probe binding site. A high correlation of cycle quantification (Cq) values was observed in which Cq values obtained from both probes arranged from 22 to 25, suggesting that modified probe sequence does not impede the qualification of real-time PCR to detect ASFV in clinical samples. However, the samples with one mutation in probe binding sites were ASFV negative with OIE recommended probe but positive with our modified probe (Cq value ranked between 33.12-35.78). Conclusion: We demonstrated for the first time that a mismatch in probe binding regions caused a false negative result by OIE recommended real-time PCR, and a slightly modified probe is required to enhance the sensitivity and obtain an ASF accurate diagnosis in field samples in Vietnam.

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the effect of electro-osmosis on lubricating the interface between the cement paste-based material and metal wall. A new experimental apparatus was developed and set up in this study. Two scales of cement paste-based materials were used and tested: cement paste and mortar. Tests performed were as follows: (i) range of potential difference varies from 5 to 30 V; (ii) range of metallic plate slope varies from 7° to 15°. The pre-movement time was reduced and the sample velocity was increased by increasing the potential difference and the slope. The rheological properties of two mixtures were determined to identify the characteristics of the fluid film at the interface that plays an important role in lubricating the sample. The permeability coefficient for managing the contact lubrication was also determined in this study.

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of Bacillus, Saccharomyces and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) on performance and nutrient digestibility in grower and finisher pigs. In Exp. 1, 80 pigs (32 females and 48 males), $28.7{\pm}0.9\;kg$ body weight (BW), were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups balanced for sex and weight (5 pigs per pen, 4 pens per treatment). They were fed one of four diets: a basal grower (20-50 kg BW) and finisher (>50 kg BW) diet without any addition of probiotic or antibiotic (diet C), the basal diet supplemented with Bacillus subtilis H4 (diet B), diet B supplemented with Saccharomyces boulardi Sb (diet BS) and diet BS supplemented with a LAB complex (diet BSL). The LAB complex consisted of Enterococcus faecium 6H2, Lactobacillus acidophilus C3, Pediococcus pentosaceus D7, and Lactobacillus fermentum NC1. In Exp. 2, 16 male pigs, $29.2{\pm}0.8\;kg$ BW, were kept in individual pens and divided into 4 groups (4 pigs in each group). All 4 groups were given exactly the same growing-period diets (diet C, B, BS and BSL) as in Exp 1. The total faeces and urine were collected during 5 days (day 20-24) to determine nitrogen retention and total tract digestibility. In the growing period, average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were not affected by diet B and BS (p>0.05), but ADG increased (+5.9%) (p<0.05) and FCR improved (+5.9%) (p<0.05) on diet BSL compared with the control, although ADFI was not different (p>0.05). Digestibility of crude protein and organic matter was higher (p<0.05) in diet BSL and digestibility of crude fibre was higher (p<0.05) in diet BS and BSL than in diet C. Nitrogen retention was not affected by diet (p>0.05). The faecal LAB counts were increased in grower pigs fed diet BSL (p<0.05) and faecal E. coli counts were decreased in pigs fed diets BS and BSL (p<0.05). In the finishing period, no effects of diet were found in ADFI, ADG, FCR, nutrient digestibility, and nitrogen retention (p>0.05). Faecal LAB and E. coli counts in the finisher pigs were not affected by diet (p>0.05). In conclusion, the current study demonstrates that a mixture of bacteria and yeast has the potential to be used as a probiotic dietary supplement in grower pigs.
