Compact Mobile Quad-Band Slot Antenna Design for GPS L1, WiMAX, and WLAN Applications

In this paper, an asymmetric compact multiband slot antenna is proposed for global positioning system (GPS), worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX), and wireless area network (WLAN) applications. The top plane, a ground is composed of a rectangular slot with a trapezoidal-like stub, an inverted U-shaped slot at the right side of the rectangular slot, an inverted L-shaped slot at the left side of the rectangular slot, and three stubs. The proposed antenna is fed by an asymmetric cross-parasitic strip on the bottom plane. By properly designing the slots and stubs, four resonant frequency bands are achieved with -10 dB reflection coefficient bandwidths of 50 MHz, 400 MHz, 390 MHz, and 830 MHz in the 1.57 GHz GPS band, 2.4 GHz WLAN band, 3.5 GHz WiMAX band, and 5.5 GHz WLAN bands, respectively. The antenna has a total compact size of 13 mm × 32 mm × 0.8 mm. Simulated and measured results indicate that the proposed antenna has sufficient bandwidth and good radiation performance in each band.

As is often the case, Korean learner's speaking is not regarded as appropriate one without any specific error. The more the learners spend the time for learning, the less they make errors in pronouncing segmental phonemes. With the stress or intonation, though, even the advanced learners make quite a few fixed mistakes, and the same goes for Chinese speaking learners. For the learners to be fluent in Korean language, it is required to learn to understand various phonological rules and suprasegmental phonemes such as stress or intonation as well as to pronounce individual syllabic, consonants and vowels correctly. Accordingly in this study, with the methods of linguistic/tonetic contrastive analysis and objective, scientific experiment, the teaching method is presented for Korean pronunciation, especially for interrogative intonation based on the analysis result of Chinese speakers' Korean pronunciation.

In this study, we developed a co-located and space-shared multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna module with a modular design and high integration level. The proposed antenna pair includes a half-wavelength loop antenna and a dipole-type antenna printed on the front and back sides of a compact modular board. Owing to their modal orthogonality, these two independent antenna elements are highly self-isolated and free of additional decoupling components, even though they are assembled at the same location and within the same space. Thus, the proposed antenna is attractive in 5G MIMO systems. Furthermore, the proposed co-located and space-shared MIMO antenna module was employed in a 5G smartphone to verify their radiation and diversity performances. A 12 × 12 MIMO antenna system was simulated and fabricated using the proposed module. Based on the results, the proposed module can be employed in large-scale MIMO antenna systems for current and future terminal devices owing to its high integration, compactness, simple implementation, and inherent isolation.

In this paper, a planar printed hybrid short/open-ended slot antenna with capacitive coupling feed strips is proposed for hepta-band mobile applications. The proposed antenna is comprised of a slotted ground plane on the top plane and two capacitive coupling feed strips with a chip inductor on the bottom plane. At the low frequency band, the short-ended long slot fed by strip 1 generates its halfwavelength resonance mode, whereas the T-shaped open ended slot fed by strip 2 generates its quarter-wavelength resonance mode for the high frequency band. The antenna provides a wide bandwidth covering GSM850/GSM900/DCS/PCS/UMTS/LTE2300/LTE2500 operation bands. Moreover, the antenna occupies a small volume of 15 mm × 50 mm × 1 mm. The operating principle of the proposed antenna and the simulation/measurement results are presented and discussed.
Quality evaluation of Carthami Flos by HPLC–UV

A HPLC–DAD method was developed forsimultaneous determination of four marker compounds,kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside, safflomin A, safflomin B andbidenoside C, in the extract of the flowers of Carthamustinctorius Linne. Natural samples were extracted in 50 %aqueous methanol by ultra-sonication for 60 min. Markercompounds were separated on a C18 column by two-stepgradient elution of mobile phase (acetonitrile/water) at aflow rate of 0.75 mL/min and detected at 210 nm. Theretention times of safflomin A and safflomin B were shiftedaccording to the pH of the mobile phase. The optimizedanalytical method was validated to confirm linearity, precision,accuracy and stability of marker compounds. Themethod was successfully employed to analyze 17 naturalsamples from different regions, and the data matrix wasmonitored and visualized by principal component analysis. The assay method could be applied for quality control ofthe flowers of C. tinctorius Linne.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of saucerneol F (SF) on the productions of the pro-inflammatory cytokines, TNF-α and IL-6, in IgE/Ag-induced mouse bone marrow-derived mast cells (BMMCs). SF dose-dependently suppressed the transcriptions of these pro-inflammatory cytokines. To identify the molecular mechanisms responsible for these suppressions, we examined the effect of SF on three important transcription factors; activator protein-1 (AP-1), nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), and STAT5. It was found that SF inhibited the nuclear translocation of the p65 subunit of NF-κB to the nucleus and its DNA-binding ability. SF also attenuated mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)-mediated AP-1 activation and STAT5 activation. Biochemical analysis of FcεRI-mediated signaling pathways demonstrated that SF inhibited the phosphorylation of Fyn and multiple downstream signaling processes, including Syk, Gab2, and the Akt/IKK/IκB and MAPK pathways. Taken together, our results suggest that SF inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines by suppressing Fyn kinase-dependent signaling events.Crown Copyright ⓒ2013 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Cynanchum auriculatum and Cynanchum wilfordii are widely used as folk medicine in Eastern Asia. However, the indeterminacy in the authentic original plant material has resulted in the same appellative name being given to the two plants, and they are commonly misused. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an analytical method for discrimination as well as quality control of the two species. This study was to develop HPLC-UV methods for quality assessment of C. auriculatum and C. wilfordii anddiscrimination between the two species. Two HPLC methods to analyze eight marker compounds were established and validated. The first method analyzed seven marker compounds simultaneously on a reversed-phase column, while the second method analyzed a single marker compound, conduritol F, which exists only in C. wilfordii, on a Si-column. Thirty-nine batches of C. auriculatum and nineteen batches of C. wilfordii that were collected from different geographical regions of South Korea were analyzed by these methods. The constructed data matrix was subjected to principal components analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis in order to classify the samples. The established methods offer a potential strategy for authentication and differentiation of the two species.
