Background: Nonhuman primates are used for research purposes such as studying diseases and drug discovery and development programs. Various clinical pathology parameters are used as biomarkers of disease conditions in biomedical research. Detailed reports of these parameters are not available for Indian-origin rhesus macaques. To meet the increasing need for information, we conducted this study on 121 adult Indian rhesus macaques (57 wild-sourced and 64 inhouse animals, aged 3–7 years). A total of 18 hematology and 18 biochemistry parameters were evaluated and reported in this study. Data from these parameters were statistically evaluated for significance amongst inhouse and wild-born animals and for differences amongst sexes. The reference range was calculated according to C28-A3 guidelines for reporting reference intervals of clinical laboratory parameters. Results: Source of the animals and sex appeared to have statistically significant effects on reference values and range. Wild-born animals reported higher WBC, platelets, neutrophils, RBC, hemoglobin, HCT, MCV, and total protein values in comparison to inhouse monkeys. Sex-based differences were observed for parameters such as RBCs, hemoglobin, HCT, creatinine, calcium, phosphorus, albumin, and total protein amongst others. Conclusions: Through this study, we have established a comprehensive data set of reference values and intervals for certain hematological and biochemical parameters which will help researchers in planning, conducting, and interpreting various aspects of biomedical research employing Indian-origin rhesus monkeys.
Synthesis, Characterization, and Dyeing Performance of Thiadiazole Derivatives

N4-(5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thiazole-2,4-diamine derivatives have been synthesized by the reaction of 2- amino-5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole and chloroaecetylchloride with suitable solvent, then cyclized with thiourea at reflux temperature in methanol to yield N4-(5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thiazole-2,4-diamine which was diazotized and coupled with various naphthalene acid couplers to give new series of acid dyes (AD1-AD13). All the compounds were characterized by their percentage yield, melting point, elemental analysis, UV spectra, IR spectra, and NMR spectra and dyeing performance on nylon fabric has been assessed.
Amino acid functionalized magnetite nanoparticles in saline solution

We report amino acid functionalized magnetite nanoparticles with particle diameters, ranging from 3 to 10nm. We synthesized them in one-step in a saline solution. The saturation magnetizations (M<SUB>s</SUB>s) were determined to be 57.98 and 45.20emu/g at 300K for l-glutamic acid and l-lysine functionalized magnetite nanoparticles, respectively. Especially, l-lysine functionalized magnetite nanoparticles showed an excellent colloidal stability of >a year or so. This excellent colloidal stability, a high saturation magnetization, and a nearly monodisperse particle diameter of the l-lysine functionalized magnetite nanoparticles will be useful for biomedical applications.
Anti-ulcer and antioxidant activity of leaves of Madhuca indica in rats

The leaves of Madhuca (M.) indica J.f.Gmel. (Sapotaceae) have been used traditionally in folk medicine due to its astringent properties and are effective in treatment of eczema and snake bites. Methanolic extract of M. indica is rich in tannins and has been proven experimentally to possess antibacterial activity. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the anti-ulcer and antioxidant activity of M. indica in rats. The methanolic extract of leaves of M. indica was tested at various doses (75, 150 and 300 mg/kg, p.o.) for its effect on gastric secretion and gastric ulcers in pylorus-ligation and on ethanol- induced gastric mucosal injury in rats. The significant reduction in ulcer index in both the models along with an increase in the pH of the gastric fluid and mucin content of stomach, and the acid secretory parameters such as total acidity and volume of gastric fluid were also significantly reduced along with reduction in the pepsin activity in pylorusligated rats proved the anti-ulcer activity of M. indica. The increase in the levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase and reduced glutathione and decrease in lipid peroxidation in both the models proved the antioxidant activity of M. indica. Thus it can be concluded that M. indica possesses anti-ulcer activity, which can be attributed to its antioxidant mechanism of action.
Diffusion of low-carbon technologies and the feasibility of long-term climate targets

Stabilizing the global climate will require large-scale global deployment of low-carbon technologies. Even in the presence of aggressive climate policies, however, the diffusion of such technologies may be limited by several institutional, behavioral, and social factors. In this paper, we review the literature on the sources of such diffusion constraints, and explore the potential implications of such constraints based on the GCAM integrated assessment model. Our analysis highlights that factors that limit technology deployment may have sizeable impacts on the feasibility and mitigation costs of achieving stringent stabilization targets. And such impacts are greatly amplified with major delays in serious climate policies. The results generally indicate that constraints on the expansions of CCS and renewables are more costly than those on nuclear or bioenergy, and jointly constraining these technologies leaves some scenarios infeasible.
Comparative dynamic studies of thick laminated composite shells based on higher-order theories

Here, the dynamic response characteristics of thick cross-ply laminated composite cylindrical shells are studied using a higher-order displacement model. The formulation accounts for the nonlinear variation of the in-plane and transverse displacements through the thickness, and abrupt discontinuity in slope of the in-plane displacements at any interface. The effect of inplane and rotary inertia terms is included. The analysis is carried out using finite element approach. The influences of various terms in the higher-order displacement field on the free vibrations, and transient dynamic response characteristics of cylindrical composite shells subjected to thermal and mechanical loads are analyzed.
