Effect of Gamma Irradiation on the Properties of a Multigap Resistive Plate Chamber

The eect of gamma irradiation on the Multigap Resistive Plate Chamber (MRPC) of the ALICE time-of- ight detector was tested using the electron beam dump of the Pohang Linear Accelerator. We measured the current in the chamber, the single rate, and the cosmic-ray detection eciency before and after 9 hours of irradiation, which amounts to more than 10 years of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) running. The current and the single rate were reduced after irradiation whereas the eciency did not show any signicant change.

This study investigated the physiological activities of different molecular weight (MW) fractions of crude polysaccharide from D?d?k (Codonopsis lanceolata). The crude polysaccharide cut off for each fraction was: <1,000 MW (Fr Ⅰ), 1,000 MW<fraction<3,000 MW (Fr Ⅱ), 3,000 MW<fraction<10,000 MW (Fr Ⅲ), 10,000 MW<fraction<100,000 MW (Fr Ⅳ), 100,000 MW<fraction (Fr Ⅴ) with membrane. Fr Ⅰ exhibited the highest yield of all the fractions. Fr Ⅰ also had the highest total sugar contents, total protein contents, total phenolic compounds content, as well as the greatest growth inhibitory activity against SNU-1 and Hela cells, ACE inhibitory activity, and DPPH radical scavenging effect. Fr Ⅱ exhibited lower physiological activity than Fr Ⅰ, and showed higher activity than those of fraction of above 3,000 MW, but there was no significant ACE inhibitory activity. The Fr Ⅲ exhibited the lowest yield, total sugar contents, total protein contents, and total phenolic contents; as well as the least growth inhibitory activity against SNU-1, Hela, ACE inhibitory activity, DPPH radical scavenging effect.
Swarm Group Mobility Model for Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

This paper proposes a new group mobility model for wireless communication. The mobility model considers the psychological and sociological behavior of each node and the perception of other nodes for describing interactions among a set of nodes. The model assumes no permanent membership of a group, capable of capturing natural behaviors as fork and join. It emulates a cooperative movement pattern observed in mobile ad hoc networks of military operation and campus, in which a set of mobile stations accomplish a cooperative motion affected by the individual behavior as well as a group behavior. The model also employs a physic model to avoid a sudden stopping and a sharping turning.
A Characterization of Conic Sections
