        Effects of Extrusion Conditions on Pasting Properties of Potato and Potato : Wheat Flour Mixture

        The purpose of this study was to develop extrusion process of fresh potato and to study the effects of extrusion condition on the pasting properties of extruded potato products. The blend of pressed potato and wheat flour and pressed potatoes were extruded at different die exit temperatures (110-160℃) and screw speed of 100 rpm using a twin-screw extruder with conveying, high and low shear screw configuration. The viscosity-related parameters, such as peak viscosity, through, final viscosity, peak time, and pasting temperature of the feed materials and extruded products, were studied using a rapid visco analyzer (RVA). Their water solubility index (WSI) and water absorption index (WAI) were also studied. The peak viscosity, through, final viscosity, and peak time of pressed potato extrudates and potato-wheat flour mixture extrudates decreased as die exit temperature increased. The WSI and WAI of potato products increased as die exit temperature increased. When high shear screw configuration was used, the values of viscosity-related parameters were lower than those when low shear screw configuration was used. The potato-wheat flour mixture products obtained different degrees of depolymerization from fresh potatoes and wheat flour depending on die exit temperature and screw configuration.

        본 연구는 제5차 교육과정에 따른 인문계 고등학교 교과서에 소개된 조직 배양의 내용을 비교 분석한 결과 및 기초 실험의 결과를 토대로 다음과 같은 결론을 내리고 생물 교육 개선을 위한 자료로 삼고자 한다. 제3차 교육과정 이후 제4차 교육과정으로 개편하면서 조직배양에 대한 내용이 더욱 강화되었으며 그의 이용부분까지도 설명하고 있다. 또한 더욱 발전될 것을 제시하여 학생들의 탐구력 신장 및 흥미를 갖게 하였다. 인문계 고교 과학Ⅰ(상)에서 조직 배양에 관한 사항을 이용하는 단원은 5개 단원 모두에 해당되고 있다. 또한 생물 교과서에서도 5개 단원 중 3개 단원에 조직 배양에 관한 사항이 이용되고 있다. 실물 조직 배양의 교재적 의의는 매우 크다. 더우기 발전된 실험을 행할 경우 Biotechnology로써 유전자 교환, 세포융합, 형질 전환 등의 실험은 많은 학생에게 흥미와 관심을 갖게 할 것이다. 조직 배양에 사용되는 기구와 기재는 현재 학교에서 사용하는 실험 기구와 기재를 이용할 수 있으나 몇 몇 기재는 간이 기구 및 다른 방법으로 이용할 수 있으므로 별도의 구입은 필요로 하지 않는다. 조직 배양시 필요로하는 화합물 약 30여종으로 되어 있으나 거의 대부분 학교에 비치되어 있고 비타민류, 아미노산류, 식물호르몬류는 별도로 구입을 하여야 하나 아주 미량으로 사용되므로 많은 비용이 요구되지 않는다. Hyponex배지를 사용할 경우에는 화합물 준비는 더욱 용이하다. 조직 배지를 상품화한 것을 이용하여 실험할 수 있게 하는 것이 필요하다. Model화된 식물 조직 배양의 실험 방법은 현재 고등학교에 있는 기구를 이용하면 가능하다. 다소 어려움이 있더라도 학생에게 조금이라도 실제로 행하도록 하거나 관찰시키는 기회를 많이 갖게 하는 것이 바람직하다. 이렇게 하여 자연과학에 대한 흥미와 관심을 높여가는 것이 초 ·중 ·고를 통하여 증시되고 있는 탐구과정에도 상통하는 것이다. Model화를 위한 기초 실험에서 나타난 문제점을 간이 방법 및 간이 기구로 해결하여 실험을 하였으나, 좋은 재료와 기구 및 방법으로 실시하도록 많은 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다. This study is meant as a teaching aid for the improvement of biology as follows on the basis of the compared and analyzed result of the content on the tissue sulture introduced in cultural high school texts by the fifth curriculum. The third curriculum has been reorganized into the fourth and fifth, during which the presenting the further development students are enabled to have the expansion of research and interest. The items concerning tissue culture are contained in the five units of cultural high school science I, and in the three among five units of biology text, and tissue culture as a text counts for much and in case of developed experiment the experiment on the exchange of gene as a biotechnolgy, cell fusion and transformation are expected to interest many students. The instruments and material used for tissue culture can be replaced with the preequipped ones in school laboratory and some tools need not purchasing as some temporary tools can be substituted for them. The complex needed in tissue cult-ure consists of about thirty types, most of which re equipped in almost all schools and vitamins, amino acids and plant hormones which need seperate purchase are used in quite a fraction and so don`t require much expense. The use of hyponex medium makes it easier to prepare complex. It is necessary that tissue culture medium produced on a commercial sale should be used in experiment. The model of experiment in plant tissue culture can be conducted using the present tools and instrument and it is desirable that students perform themselves and observe. By doing so, the promotion of the interest in natural science is consistent and universal in the course of research valued in the primary and secondary school curriculum. The issues presented in the basic experiment for modelling are experimented by using some temporary methods and instruments, many studies are thought to be done using more favorable material and instrument.

      • Vinyl monomer에 의한 SIS block copolymer의 改質과 그 特性

        The graft polymerization of 2-Hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) and Vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) onto Styrene-isoprene-styrene block copolymer (SIS) was carried out in toluene, with radical initiators such as benzoyl peroxide(BPO) and α, α`-Azobisisobutyronitrile(AIBN) under nitrogen atmosphere. The degree of grafting was increased with the increases of the reaction temperature and reaction time. The efficiency of BPO was superior to that of AIBN. The mechanical properties and molecular weight of graft products were measured and the applicability as a adhesive of plasticized PVC leather was examined. The hardness and the molecular weight of graft products was increased with the increases of the degree of grafting, but elongation at break was decreased with the increases of one. And the tensile strength was maximum at the degree of grafting of about 6.5%. It was found that a toluene solution of graft products was confirmed to be an effective hot melt adhesive for the bond of plasticized PVC leather.

      • NF‐AT5 is a critical regulator of inflammatory arthritis

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To investigate the role of NF‐AT5, an osmoprotective transcription factor, in synovial hyperplasia and angiogenesis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>The expression of NF‐AT5 in synovial tissue and synoviocytes from RA patients was examined by immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis, respectively. Messenger RNA (mRNA) in RA synoviocytes and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) transfected with dummy small interfering RNA (siRNA) or NF‐AT5 siRNA were profiled using microarray technology. Assays to determine synoviocyte apoptosis and proliferation were performed in the presence of NF‐AT5 siRNA. VEGF<SUB>165</SUB>‐induced angiogenesis was assessed by measuring the proliferation, tube formation, and wound migration of HUVECs. Experimental arthritis was induced in mice by injection of anti–type II collagen antibody.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>NF‐AT5 was highly expressed in rheumatoid synovium, and its activity was increased by proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin‐1β and tumor necrosis factor α. The mRNA profiling of synoviocytes and HUVECs transfected with NF‐AT5–targeted siRNA revealed 3 major changes in cellular processes associated with the pathogenesis of RA: cell cycle and survival, angiogenesis, and cell migration. Consistent with these results, NF‐AT5 knockdown in RA synoviocytes and HUVECs inhibited their proliferation/survival and impeded angiogenic processes in HUVECs. Mice with NF‐AT5 haploinsufficiency (NF‐AT5<SUP>+/–</SUP>) developed a very limited degree of synovial proliferation, as seen on histologic analysis, and decreased angiogenesis, and they exhibited a nearly complete suppression of experimentally induced arthritis.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>NF‐AT5 regulates synovial proliferation and angiogenesis in chronic arthritis.</P>

        THE EFFECT OF SEALING PROCEDURE USING ALL-IN-ONE ADHESIVE ON MICROLEAKAGE OF PIT AND FISSURE SEALANT

        본 연구는 all-in-one adhesive를 사용하여 전색하는 술식을 통상적인 탈회 술식 및 single-bottle 결합제를 이용하여 전색하는 술식과 비교하여 법랑질과 전색재 사이의 미세누출의 차이를 알아보고자 하는 것이다. 75개의 제3대구치를 5군으로 나누어 1군을 대조군으로 하여 only Etching(1군), Adper<TEX>$$\^(TM)$$</TEX> Single Bond<TEX>$$\^(TM)$$</TEX>(2군) , Adper<TEX>$$\^(TM)$$</TEX> Prompt<TEX>$$\^(TM)$$</TEX> L-Pop(3군), AQ-bond(4군), One-up bond F(5군)로 처리한 후 전색재 도포 후 열순환을 시행한 뒤 미세누출도를 검사하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. All-in-one adhesive를 사용한 3, 4, 5군은 1군에 비해 유의성있게 높은 평균미세누출도를 보였다(p<0.05). 2. 가장 낮은 평균미세누출도는 2군(0.14)에서 보였고 1군(1.05), 3군(1.65), 4군(2.85), 5군(3.05) 순으로 증가하였다. 3. All-in-one adhesive를 사용한 3, 4, 5군중에서 3군은 4, 5군에 비해 통계적으로 유의성있게 낮은 평균미세누출도를 보여주었지만(p<0.05) 1군과 2군에 비해 유의성있게 높은 평균값을 보여주었다(p(0<.05). 4. 4군과 5군 사이의 평균미세누출도는 통계적으로 유의성있는 차이를 보이지 않았다(p>0.05). 5. 주사전자현미경관찰결과 all-in-one adhesive를 사용한 3, 4, 5군은 1, 2군에 비해 레진돌기가 짧고 불규칙하게 관찰되었다. The purpose of this study was to examine differences in microleakage of enamel-sealant interface when all-in-one adhesives were used compared with conventional acid etching and single-bottle adhesive system. Seventy-five extracted permanent third molars were randomly divided into 5 groups and treated with only Etching, Adper<TEX>$$\^(TM)$$</TEX> Single Bond<TEX>$$\^(TM)$$</TEX>, Adper<TEX>$$\^(TM)$$</TEX> Prompt<TEX>$$\^(TM)$$</TEX> L-Pop, AQ-bond and One-up Bond F each. After sealant application, the samples were thermocycled and the degree of microleakage was determined. The results were as follows : 1. Group 3, 4, 5 using the all-in-one adhesive system showed significantly higher microleakage score than Group 1(p<0.05). 2. The lowest mean microleakage score was Group 2(0.41) followed by Group 1 (1.05), Group 3(1.65), Group 4(2.85) and group 5(3.05). 3. Among Groups using all-in-one adhesives, Group 3 showed significantly lower mean microleakage score than the other groups(p<0.05) but showed significantly higher mean score than both Group 1and Group 2(p<0.05). 4. There was no statistically significant difference(p>0.05) between Group 4 and Group 5. 5. In SEM examination, all the groups used all-in-one adhesive showed shorter resin tags than Group 1.

        Effects of Sheet Thickness on the Electromagnetic Wave Absorbing Characterization of Li<SUB>0.375</SUB>Ni<SUB>0.375</SUB>Zn<SUB>0.25</SUB>-Ferrite Composite as a Radiation Absorbent Material

        This paper reports on a study of LiNiZn-ferrite composite as a radiation absorbent material (RAM). The electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbers are composed of an EM wave absorbing material and a polymeric binder. The surface morphology, chemical composition, weight percent of the ferrite composite of the toroid sample, magnetic properties, and return loss are investigated using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and network analyzer. For preparing the absorbing sheet, chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) is used as a polymeric binder. The EM wave absorption properties of the prepared samples were studied at 4 - 8 GHz. We can confirm the effects of the thickness of the samples for absorption properties. An absorption bandwidth of more than a 10-dB return loss shifts toward a lower frequency range along with an increase in the thickness of the absorber.
