A concise and efficient one-pot synthesis of chroman-2,4-dione-based HKA derivatives by three component reaction of HKAs, triethoxymethane and 4-hydroxycoumarin derivatives under solvent-free and catalyst-free conditions is described. This protocol has many advantages, in that the GAP (Group-Assistant-Purification) chemistry process is involved in this method. As a result, the experimenter can avoid cumbersome process steps such as traditional chromatography and recrystallization purifications. The desired products can be easily obtained by washing the crude products with 95% EtOH.
Input-series hybrid dual active bridge DC-DC converter combined with LC resonant tank
Fu, Chao,Xu, Chongwei,Sun, Yuwei The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2021 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.21 No.8
This paper presents an input-series hybrid dual active bridge (DAB) converter for efficiency improvement. The proposed converter is achieved by integrating a series resonant tank (SRT) into a single phase-shift (SPS) controlled DAB that shares one H-bridge at the secondary side. By using the super-resonant state of the LC tank, the phase correction of the secondary side H-bridge current can be obtained to realize zero voltage switching (ZVS), zero current switching (ZCS), and full load ZVS for the primary side bridges. In addition, the circulating current is reduced when compared to that of the traditional input-series DAB converter based on SPS control, which improves the overall efficiency. The system modelling and parameters design procedures are provided. Finally, a 1-kW experimental prototype was built, and the soft-switching performance was tested. The obtained results verify the effectiveness of the proposed topology and demonstrate a significant efficiency improvement.

Disruption of ecdysis in Leptinotarsa decemlineata by knockdown of chitin deacetylase 1

Chitin deacetylases (CDAs) catalyze N-deacetylation of chitin, a crucial process for chitin modification. In the present paper, LdCDA1 was identified in Leptinotarsa decemlineata. It was copiously expressed in larval foregut, hindgut and epidermis. Just before the molt in the first, second and third larval instars, the mRNA levels of LdCDA1 were high. In the fourth (final)-instar larvae, a peak occurred 4 days after ecdysis. In vivo results revealed that LdCDA1 transcriptionally responded, positively and negatively respectively, to 20-hydroxyecdysone and juvenile hormone titers. Moreover, knockdown of LdCDA1 significantly reduced foliage consumption, lengthened developing period and prevented growth in the final instar larvae. Three distinct lethal phenotypes were noted in the LdCDA1 RNAi larvae. About 30% of the RNAi larvae became moribund and finally died; approximately 50% of deformed pupae died as pharate adults; and around 20% of LdCDA1 depleted pupae finally emerged as abnormal adults and eventually died within 1 week after emergence. Furthermore, chitin content was low and the mRNA levels of five chitin biosynthesis transcripts (LdUAP1, LdUAP2, LdChSAa, LdChSAb and LdChSB) were significantly declined in the LdCDA1 RNAi larvae. In addition, glucose, trehalose and glycogen contents were increased in the LdCDA1 depleted hypomorphs, along with highly expressed genes coding for trehalose and glycogen synthesis enzymes. The findings provide a compelling piece of evidence that CDA1 is critical for chitin deposition in L. decemlineata. Moreover, LdCDA1 may be a potential target for control of the larvae.

To understand how Calycanthaceae species adapt to diff erent light levels, we examined the responses of leaf structure, chlorophyll(Chl) content, and Chl fl uorescence of fi ve Calycanthaceae species to diff erent light conditions. With the reductionof light irradiance, total leaf thickness of Sinocalycanthus chinensis signifi cantly decreased, and that of Chimonanthus nitenswas generally the same. The other three species, Ch. praecox , Ch. salicifolius , and Calycanthus fl oridus var. glaucus , showedmoderate plasticity of leaf structure. With shade treatments, the Chl a content in the leaves of Ch. nitens increased, whilethat in Ch. salicifolius decreased. However, the Chl a content in Ch. praecox , Ca. fl oridus var. glaucus , and S. chinensis wasnot changed with decreased light levels. Leaves of four species (except Ch. salicifolius ) showed higher Chl b content andtotal Chl content, and leaves of all fi ve species showed a lower Chl a / b ratio in shade. The maximal quantum effi ciency ofphotosystem II (PSII) (F v /F m ) and the eff ective quantum yield of PSII (Φ PSII ) in S. chinensis were the same regardless of thelight regime, but those of the other four species were signifi cantly lower in full sunlight. Another Chl fl uorescence parameter,non-photochemical Chl fl uorescence quenching, was signifi cantly higher in full sunlight. Our results revealed that among thefi ve Calycanthaceae species, S. chinensis exhibited the highest plasticity of leaf structure in response to diff erent irradiancesand Ch. nitens was considered to have the highest shade tolerance.
