Essentials of Physiotherapy after Thoracic Surgery: What Physiotherapists Need to Know. A Narrative Review

Ahmad Mahdi Ahmad 대한흉부외과학회 2018 Journal of Chest Surgery (J Chest Surg) Vol.51 No.5

Physiotherapy has recently become an essential part of enhanced recovery protocols after thoracic surgery. The evidence-based practice of physiotherapy is essential for the effective management of postoperative patients. Unfortunately, only a small body of literature has discussed the rationale of the physiotherapy interventions that are routinely implemented following thoracic surgery. Nonetheless, we can integrate the available knowledge into our practice until new evidence emerges. Therefore, in this review, the principles of physiotherapy after thoracic surgery are presented, along with a detailed description of physiotherapy interventions, with the goals of enhancing the knowledge and practical skills of physiotherapists in postoperative care units and helping them to re-evaluate and justify their traditional practices.

PSNR Enhancement in Image Streaming over Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks

Mahdi Bahaghighat,Seyed Ahmad Motamedi 한국전자통신연구원 2017 ETRI Journal Vol.39 No.5

Several studies have focused on multimedia transmission over wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this paper, we propose a comprehensive and robust model to transmit images over cognitive radio WSNs (CRWSNs). We estimate the spectrum sensing frequency and evaluate its impact on the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). To enhance the PSNR, we attempt to maximize the number of pixels delivered to the receiver. To increase the probability of successful image transmission within the maximum allowed time, we minimize the average number of packets remaining in the send buffer. We use both single- and multi-channel transmissions by focusing on critical transmission events, namely hand-off (HO), No-HO, and timeout events. We deploy our advanced updating method, the dynamic parameter updating procedure, to guarantee the dynamic adaptation of model parameters to the events. In addition, we introduce our ranking method, named minimum remaining packet best channel selection, to enable us to rank and select the best channel to improve the system performance. Finally, we show the capability of our proposed image scrambling and filtering approach to achieve noticeable PSNR improvement.

Receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B gene polymorphisms in Iranian periodontitis and peri-implantitis patients

        Mahdi Kadkhodazadeh,Zahra Baghani,Ahmad Reza Ebadian,Zahra Kaghazchi,Reza Amid 대한치주과학회 2014 Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science Vol.44 No.3

Purpose: Peri-implantitis and periodontitis are inflammatory and infectious diseases of implantand tooth-supporting tissues. Recently, the role of gene polymorphisms of immune responsecomponents in the relevant pathogenesis has been investigated. The present study wasthe first to evaluate the relationship between two known single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) of the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-β (RANK) gene (rs3018362 andrs35211496) in chronic periodontitis and peri-implantitis patients in an Iranian population. Methods: Eighty-one periodontally healthy patients, 38 patients with peri-implantitis, and74 patients with chronic periodontitis were enrolled in this study. DNA was extracted fromblood arm vein samples by using Miller’s salting out technique according to the manufacturer’sinstructions given in the extraction kit. The concentration of DNA samples was measuredusing a spectrophotometer. The genetic polymorphisms of the RANK gene were evaluatedusing a competitive allele specific polymerase chain reaction (KBioscience allele specificPCR) technique. Differences in the frequencies of genotypes and alleles in the diseasedand healthy groups were analyzed using chi-squared statistical tests (P<0.05). Results: Analysis of rs35211496 revealed statistically significant differences in the expressionof the TT, TC, and CC genotypes among the three groups (P=0.00). No statistically significantdifference was detected in this respect between the control group and the chronicperiodontitis group. The expression of the GG, GA, and AA genotypes and allele frequencies(rs3018362) showed no statistically significant difference among the three groups (P=0.21). Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the CC genotype of the rs35211496RANK gene polymorphism was significantly associated with peri-implantitis and may beconsidered a genetic determinant for peri-implantitis, but this needs to be confirmed byfurther studies in other populations.

        On $\phi$-Schreier rings

        Ahmad Yousefian Darani,Mahdi Rahmatinia 대한수학회 2016 대한수학회지 Vol.53 No.5

Let $R$ be a ring in which $Nil(R)$ is a divided prime ideal of $R$. Then, for a suitable property $X$ of integral domains, we can define a $\phi$-$X$-ring if $R/Nil(R)$ is an $X$-domain. This device was introduced by Badawi \cite{Ayman1} to study rings with zero divisors with a homomorphic image a particular type of domain. We use it to introduce and study a number of concepts such as $\phi$-Schreier rings, $\phi$-quasi-Schreier rings, $\phi$-almost-rings, $\phi$-almost-quasi-Schreier rings, $\phi$-$GCD$ rings, $\phi$-generalized $GCD$ rings and $\phi$-almost $GCD$ rings as rings $R$ with $Nil(R)$ a divided prime ideal of $R$ such that $R/Nil(R)$ is a Schreier domain, quasi-Schreier domain, almost domain, almost-quasi-Schreier domain, $GCD$ domain, generalized $GCD$ domain and almost $GCD$ domain, respectively. We study some generalizations of these concepts, in light of generalizations of these concepts in the domain case, as well. Here a domain $D$ is pre-Schreier if for all $x, y, z\in D\backslash 0,$ $x\mid yz$ in $D$ implies that $x=rs$ where $r\mid y$ and $s\mid z$. An integrally closed pre-Schreier domain was initially called a Schreier domain by Cohn in \cite{Cohn} where it was shown that a GCD domain is a Schreier domain.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium of ethanol/ethyl acetate mixture in ultrasonic intensified environment

Taha Mahdi,Arshad Ahmad,Adnan Ripin,Mohamed Mahmoud Nasef 한국화학공학회 2014 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.31 No.5

A vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) study was conducted on ethanol/ethylacetate mixture as a preliminarystep towards developing an ultrasonic-assisted distillation process for separating azeotropic mixtures. The influenceof ultrasonic intensity and frequency on the vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of the mixture was examined using a combinationof four ultrasonic intensities in range of 100-400W/cm2 and three frequencies ranging from 25-68 kHz. Thesonication was found to have significant impacts on the VLE of the system as it alters both the relative volatility andazeotrope point, with preference to lower frequency operation. A maximum relative volatility of 2.32 was obtainedat an intensity of 300 W/cm2 and a frequency of 25 kHz coupled with complete elimination of ethanol-ethyl acetateazeotrope. Results from this work were also congruent with some experimental and theoretical works presented in theliterature. These findings set a good beginning towards the development of an ultrasonic assisted distillation that iscurrently in progress.

      • Cyclic behavior and performance of a coupled-steel plate shear wall with fuse pin

        Usefvand, Mahdi,Maleki, Ahmad,Alinejad, Babak Techno-Press 2021 Advances in materials research Vol.10 No.3

Coupled steel plate shear wall (C-SPSW) is one of the resisting systems with high ductility and energy absorption. Energy dissipation in the C-SPSW system is accomplished by the bending and shear behavior of the link beams and SPSW. Energy dissipation and floor displacement control occur through link beams at low seismic levels, easily replaced after an earthquake. In this study, a coupled steel plate shear wall with a yielding fuse is presented. The system uses a high-ductility fuse pin element instead of a link beam, which has good replaceability after the earthquake. In this study, four models of coupled steel plate shear walls were investigated with I-shaped link beam, I-shaped link beam with reduced beam section (RBS), box-link beam with RBS, and fuse pin element under cyclic loading. The finite element method was used through ABAQUS software to develop the C-SPSW models. To verify the finite element model results, two test specimens of coupled steel plate shear walls were validated. Comparative results of the hysteresis curves obtained from the finite element analysis with the experimental curves indicated that the finite element model offered a good prediction of the hysteresis behavior of C-SPSW. The results of the C-SPSW models revealed that the fuse pin caused an increase in the ultimate capacity by approximately 19% and the energy dissipation by 20% compared to the other C-SPSW.

Analysis of urban health from a social capital perspective in Iranian religious cities: Qom

        Ali Mahdi,Ahmad Pourahmad,Moslem Zarghamfard,Saied Qasemi 대한공간정보학회 2016 Spatial Information Research Vol.24 No.6

With social capital taking the center stage among sociologists during 1990s, social health and medicine turned their attention increasingly to links between health and social factors such as inequality, public trust, and national solidarity. The wave gave way to significant body of research which evolved around social health. In today’s city life, advantages of living in an urban center and threats to individuals’ health emanating from lifestyle have been equally affected health. The present paper is an applied case study which provides a descriptive analysis of social health of Qom metropolitan area drawing upon social capital components. Results indicated that in 8 districts, there is a type of spatial natural divisions in terms of immigrant and native population which gives different weights to their social capital. Their social capital is directly affected by social and cultural status. Districts 4, 3, 1, and 7 with highest native population enjoy better figures in terms of social capital indices compared to districts 5, 6, 2, and 8 with the majority of population being immigrants from around the country and other countries.

        On Divisorial Submodules

DARANI, AHMAD YOUSEFIAN,RAHMATINIA, MAHDI Department of Mathematics 2015 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.55 No.4

This paper is devoted to study the divisorial submodules. We get some equivalent conditions for a submodule to be a divisorial submodule. Also we get equivalent conditions for $(N{\cap}L)^{-1}$ to be a ring, where N, L are submodules of a module M.

        ON 𝜙-SHARP RINGS

Darani, Ahmad Yousefian,Rahmatinia, Mahdi Korean Mathematical Society 2016 대한수학회논문집 Vol.31 No.2

The purpose of this paper is to introduce some new class of rings that are closely related to the classes of sharp domains, pseudo-Dededkind domains, TV domains and finite character domains. A ring R is called a ${\phi}$-sharp ring if whenever for nonnil ideals I, A, B of R with $I{\supseteq}AB$, then I = A'B' for nonnil ideals A', B' of R where $A^{\prime}{\supseteq}A$ and $B^{\prime}{\supseteq}B$. We proof that a ${\phi}$-Dedekind ring is a ${\phi}$-sharp ring and we get some properties that by them a ${\phi}$-sharp ring is a ${\phi}$-Dedekind ring.
