Parasystole is of special interest among the disturbances of ectopic impulse formatioo. First, a parasystolic arrhythmia is of clinical importance because the ventricular origin ordinarily indicates the presence of organic heart disease. Second, parasystole, although not rare, is frequently overlooked because it is difficult to be differentiated from extrasystole. In this paper a ventricular parasystole is presented. A 48 year-old woman was seen with an irregular pulse rate not accompanying cardiac symptoms or signs. The chest radiograph failed to show cardiomegaly. E.K.G. revealed the dominant rhythm of sinus origin with intermittent ventricular parasystolic beats. The basic rhythm was sinus with a rate of 83 per minute. The coupling interval varied between 0.52 & 0.7 second. The shortest, calculated interectopic interval ranged from 45.2 to 49.7 (These numbers represent hundreds of a second). Occasional ventricular fusion beats appeared. She was uneventfully nephrectomized under general anesthesia with halothane-N2O-O₂for left renal empyema of tuberculosis. She dispensed well with any antiarrhythmic agent during admission

간질 중첩증에 관한 임상적 연구

Status epilepticus has been recognized as the most serious emergency states among the epileptic conditions. In this study, it was attempted to reveal the characteristic clinical aspects of the status epilepticus in their age and sex distribution, socio-economic status, causes and precipitating factors, aura, types of seizure, clinical aspects of seizure, therapeutic significance of anticonvulsant, and prognosis. Nineteen cases of status epilepticus who were admitted to Dept, of Neuropsychiatry, KangNam Sacred Heart Hospital and Han Gang Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym College, from January 1980 to December, 1981. The results were as follows; 1. In the sex distribution of status epilepticus, there was no significant difference in both sex. In the age distribution majority of them(57.8%) were distributed to the 3rd decade, and their mean age was 25.5. 2. As to the socio-economic status, majority of them(68.4%) were distributed to the lower level. 3. Idiopathic status occupied 57.8%, while symptomatic status occupied 41.7%. The most common precipitating factor was found to be irregular anticonvulsant medication(26.3%). 4. The rate of the epileptic status patients who had aura before seizure were 36.8% of all patients, and the most common aura was headache. 5. Abnormal EEG were found from 73.3% of the patients who took EEG, and the most freqent location of abnormal EEG was frontal region (45.4%). Abnormal CT findings of the brain were found from 41.7% of patients who took CT scan of the brain. 6. As to the types of seizure in status epilepticus, majority of them(84.2%) had generalized seilzure, minority of them(15.8%) partial seizure. The most common type was tonic-clonic(73.6%). 7. As to past history of epilepsy, 26.3% of status epilepticus had no history of preious seizure in their past life. 8. The majority of status epilepticus occurred in nocturnal time, especially during the sleep time and in winter and summer. Seasonally. 9. The most frequent number of seizures in status epilepticus was 6-10. The most common interval between the onset of status and the beginning of treatment was 1-2 hours(31.6%), and mean interval in all cases was 8. 9 hours. Thus the more this interval was prolonged, the more time for seizure control was needed and recovery of consciousness was delayed. The most common recovery time of consciousness after treatment was 3-5 hours. 10. In treatment of status epilepticus, intravenous diazepam were effective for 63.2% of patients, and intravenous thiopental sodium was effective in serious status epilepticus. 11. Prognosis of 36.8% in all patients was poor, but immediate therapeutic management was essential for good prognosis.

In order to determine the prevalence rates and ecological aspects of major mental disorders such as schizophrenia, affective disorder and epilepsy in a part of Korea Urban Community, Shyllim 7 Dong, Seoul, Korea. This survey was conducted using the census visit method from Jun. 1982. for 4 months. This community is mainly composed of poor peoples, which is considered as a slum. Followings are the results obtained. 1) The prevalence rates for schizophrenia, affective disorder and epilepsy among 20, 727 inhabitants were 0. 11%, 0. 08% and 0. 10% respectively. 2) About seven-tenths of the schizophrenics (69. 6%) and two-thirds of the epileptics(61.9%) had suffered for more than 5 years. 3) Twenty two schizophrenics(95.7%) had left their native places for the urban community, and eighteen schizophrenics(78.3%) have been there for more than 5 years. 4) In regard to treatment, the most popular treatment was mental hospital care(46.2%), followed by acupuncture and herb medicine(35.4%), shamanistic practices and religious method(27.7%), and eleven patients(16.9%) did not receive any treatment.

The nonlinear differential equations of motion of a fluid conveying curved pipe are derived by use of Hamiltonian approach. The extensible dynamics of curled pipe is based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. Some significant differences between linear and nonlinear equations and the dynamic characteristics are discussed. Generally, it can be shown that the natural frequencies in curved pipes are changed with flow velocity. Linearized natural frequencies of nonlinear equations are slightly different from those of linear equations.

A new non-linear modelling of a straight pipe conveying fluid is presented for vibration analysis when the pipe is fixed at both ends. Using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the non-linear Lagrange strain theory, from the extended Hamilton's principle are derived the coupled non-linear equations of motion for the longitudinal and transverse displacements. These equations of motion are discretized by using the Galerkin method. After the discretized equations are linearized in the neighbourhood of the equilibrium position, the natural frequencies are computed from the linearized equations. On the other hand, the time histories for the displacements are also obtained by applying the generalized-$\alpha$ time integration method to the non-linear discretized equations. The validity of the new modelling is provided by comparing results from the proposed non-linear equations with those from the equations proposed by Paidoussis.

Philip Glass의 영화음악 『The Hours』의 분석을 통한 미니멀리즘 음악 연구

Minimalism music is one of the music genres, the characteristic of which is the repetitive use of minimum notes of music. It has appealed to the public and has been popularized all over the world. Minimalism music tends to circulate its sound in the repeated continuity of notes of music, and does not assert any traditional and logical flow. Among the representative composers who applied minimalism music to movie soundtrack are Philip Glass and Michael Nyman. In this study we discussed Philip Glass and his movie soundtrack The Hours. This movie is about three women in three different times. Philip Glass' minimalism musical factors has done their good roles in incorporating these 3 women and their times into his coherent music. Those musics played in this movie sound like one music, but there are various continuing minor changes in them. We examined and analyzed his soundtracks, "Morning passages" and "The Hours"in that movie. These musics show a minimal pattern with the continued repetition of simple harmony and figuration. Also, he has attempted new sounds through a Hemiola technique that is allowing various rhythm alteration in repetition. These minimal patterns emerge in all the soundtracks of the movie, and they keep a coherence of the whole movie, making the musics in it sound like one music. 경구 D-PCA의 연배설에 관한 조사

For the purpose of further health control, D-penicillamine was orally administered to 8 persons who were employed in lead industry and suspected lead intoxication routine industrial health examination. The does of D-penicillamine was 600 mg per day and was administered orally in every other 5 days, For the laboratory analysis 24 hours urine and 10 gm of whole blood were collected every day. The results were as follows; 1. It was found that mean urinary lead excretion per day was 446.5 g/l and 394.98 g/l, respectively during the first 5-day and the second 5-day administration with D-penicillamine. 2. Mean lead excretion per day was $130.56{\pm}66.42g/l$ after first 5-day administration and $159.28{\pm}104.44g/l$ after second 5-day administration with D-penicillamine. 3. The level of urinary lead excretion after administration increased 3 to 4 times than that before administration with D-peniciilamine. 4. Blood and urinary lead level investigated after 6 months were $44.4{\pm}10.2g/100g\;and\;72.7{\pm}29.7\;g/l$ for the eight persons.
