2018년 2월 9일부터 16일간 열전을 치른 평창올림픽이 25일 막을 내렸다. 강원도 평창, 정선, 강릉에서 종목별로 구분되어 치러진 이번 동계올림픽은 대회 마지막 날까지 컬링과 봅슬레이에서 메달을 추가하여 종합 7위라는 좋은 성적으로 유종의 미를 거두었다. 무엇보다 이번 올림픽은 다른 관점으로 대회를 볼 수 있는 계기를 마련해주었다는 점에서 나에게 더욱 특별했다. 바로 국민들을 감동시키고 여러 패러디 열풍을 통해 응원을 펼친 '컬링' 때문이다.

Purpose: To review the management of posterior segment metallic intraocular foreign bodies (IOFB) and to compare the use of an external approach using a large electromagnet and an internal approach using vitrectomy and its tools for their removal. Methods: A retrospective review was performed on 49 eyes of 49 patients who underwent surgical removal of metallic IOFBs with either an internal or an external approach at a single institution between January 2003 and December 2006. We divided 49 eyes into two groups based on the type of approach: 26 external (n=26) and 23 internal (n=23). Visual acuity and the presence of any complications occurring with the two approaches were the main outcome measures studied. Results: Thirty of 49 eyes (61%) showed improvements in visual acuity. When we compared patients treated with an external versus an internal approach, we found no statistically significant difference in regard to visual outcome. Preoperative vitreous hemorrhage and endophthalmitis were more common in the internal approach group. A trend toward a higher rate of reoperation was more common in the external approach group, but they were not statistically significant. Postoperative complications found to be significantly different between the two groups were the rate of postoperative endophthalmitis and retinal detachment, which were more common in the external approach group. Conclusions: Surgical removal of metallic IOFBs results in significant visual improvement regardless of the approach method. The internal approach by vitrectomy is recommended as the first choice in preoperative conditions such as severe cataracts, vitreous hemorrhage and endophthalmitis, as well as in groups at high risk for postoperative endophalmitis and retinal detachment. Alloy617 용접부의 부식 및 부식피로균열성장 특성 평가

In this study, electrochemical corrosion and corrosion fatigue crack growth characteristics of a multi-pass welded Ni-base super Alloy617 were assessed. In 3.5 wt.% NaCl, glacial acetic acid and distilled water environment, corrosion rate of Alloy 617 weld linearly increased with temperature increase and was much sensitive to corrosion than base material. And by electrochemical corrosion reaction, Cr and Mo which were related with corrosion-resistance and strength were precipitated. In 70 , 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution, corrosion fatigue crack growth rate of Alloy 617 weld was assessed as 1.6 times in before PWHT condition and 1.82 times in after PWHT condition than that in air condition. These results were expected due to precipitation of Cr, Mo and degradation of the weld by corrosion. And they accelerate the inter-granular corrosion and fatigue crack growth rate.
