Vol.34 No.1
Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate whether the effects of extract from Saengkankunbi-tang and its composition that Artimisiae capillaris Herba, Crataegi Fructus, Alismatis Rhizoma, Hoelen and Raphani Semen could protect HepG2 cells from palmitic acid-induced lipotoxicity through lysosomal and mitochondrial pathways in an in vitro model. Methods : To examine the effects of the extracts from Saengkankunbi-tang and its composition that Artimisiae capillaris Herba, Crataegi Fructus, Alismatis Rhizoma, Hoelen and Raphani Semen on palmitic acid-induced lipotoxicity in HepG2 cells, we measured the contents of cell viability, cytotoxicity. Then to investigate the effects of the extract from Saengkankunbi-tang, Artimisiae capillaris Herba and Raphani Semen, we measured that triglyceride, reactive oxygen species, ATP levels, glutathione levels, cytochrome c and cathepsin B. Results : The extracts from Saengkankunbi-tang and its composition had a cell-protective function. The extracts from Saengkankunbi-tang, Artimisiae capillaris Herba and Raphani Semen controlled triglyceride over-accumulation in cells and reduced overproduction of reactive oxygen species. The extracts from Saengkankunbi-tang and Raphani Semen increased ATP and glutathione levels which had been decreased by lipotoxicity. The extracts from Saengkankunbi-tang, Artimisiae capillaris Herba and Raphani Semen reduced leakage of cytochrome c and the extracts from Saengkankunbi-tang and Raphani Semen reduced leakage of cathepsin B in lipotoxicity. Conclusions : These results show that the extracts from Saengkankunbi-tang and its composition that Artimisiae capillaris Herba and Raphani Semen have cell protective effects on palmitic acid-induced lipotoxicity through lysosomal and mitochondrial pathways.
Vol.24 No.3
We propose a method to reconstruct the two-dimensional object from an image captured through an array of random lenses each of which has random shape, size, and focal power. In the proposed method, the characteristics of the random lens array are estimated by capturing images for known elementary inputs, and then the object is reconstructed by measuring correlations between the random lens images of the object and the elementary inputs. The experimental results show that the original object can be recognized by the proposed reconstruction method. Nevertheless, further quality enhancement is required to increase feasibility and to extend to general three-dimensional object cases.

The automotive exhaust gases generated by the vehicles containing carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and lead, is a large concern because of their harm to human health or the living environment. To reduce exhaust gas, it is important to develop a variety of techniques that are currently being used by elemental analysis to determine the optimal conditions. In this study, the anti-freeze coolant contained in the exhaust gas was examined, which can affect the emissions. The effects of the commercially available coolant from five domestic companies on the HC, NOx and CO₂ emissions were analyzed to determine the optimal amount of antifreeze. In addition, antifreeze products from the five companies were analyzed with respect to driving time of the cooling fan and the correlation of the NOx emission analysis. The temperature of the engine oil was matched using a manual gear of small passenger inspection standard speed 40 ± 2Km / h so the vehicle could meet the specifications for inspection 90 ~ 93 ℃. The Company D fan operation time resulted in the shortest antifreeze, CO₂ and NOx emissions.

The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of molecular weight of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and release medium on the release of nifedipine (NP) from PEO tablets containing NP and to get some mechanistic insights into the release of NP. The tablets containing NP were prepared by direct compression, using a flat-faced punch and die. The molecular weights of PEOs used were 200K, 900K, 2000K and 7,000K. The release kinetics were studied for 24 hours in aqueous ethanol solution, using a dissolution tester at 36.5℃ and 100 rpm. Drug release rate increased, as the concentration of ethanol in the dissolution medium increased, due to the increased solubility of NP. As the molecular weight of PEO increased, release rate decreased, due to the slower swelling and dissolution of PEO. The power values obtained by fitting data to the power law expression (M_t/M_∞-ktⁿ) indicated that, at low ethanol concentration, the release of NP is governed by anomalous diffusion. However, as the ethanol concentration increases, diffusional release becomes to prevail over anomalous or zero-order release. Overall, these results provided some insights into the release of NP from PEO tablet.
