Herb is derived from Herba used to mean `green grass` like a fragrant grass, a medical plant, and so on. In modern times it names genetically the plant which is used for food and medicine, and for fragrance and taste. I studied the basic data for their application by analyzing the distilled components of Melissa (Melissa officinalis), and the validity of the blending oil for Aromatherapy treatment. Melissa (Melissa officinalis) belongs to a Composite 16 compounds are identified by The analysis of distilled components, and trans-caryophyllene(23.19%) that belongs to aldehyde is the highest in peak area. Aldehyde is characterized by ant-inflammation, sedation efficacy, dropping of blood pressure, and fever removal efficacy. Therefore this material is excellent in contracting and sedating the blood vessel of the swollen wound and the skin inflammation. So the aromatherapy treatment is the most effective in Myrrh(that is the base note oil and is effective in healing eczema), Lavender(that is the middle note oil and has sedation efficacy), and the blending oil with Orange or Lemon(that improves the evaporation power and has the disinfection effect).
흑미 호분층 추출물의 급여가 난소절제 흰쥐의 체내 지방, 혈중 지질 및 관련 호르몬 수준에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 흑미(Oryza sativa L.) 호분층 추출물이 난소절제 흰쥐의 체내 지질 및 관련 호르몬 수준에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 수행되었다. 흰쥐를 Sham군(S), 난소절제 control군(OVX), 난소절제 이소플라본 10 mg/kg 투여군(IF), 난소절제 흑미 30 및 90mg/kg 투여군(BRE-30, BRE?90)으로 나누어 12주 동안 고지방식이(45% calories from fat)를 급여하였을 때, 체중 증가량, 체지방무게 및 비만지수는 OVX군에서 증가하였으나, 이소플라본 및 BRE 투여에 의해 유의하게 감소되었다. 혈중 중성지방은 BRE-90군이 OVX군에 비해 유의적으로 낮았고, 혈청 adiponectin 수준은 BRE군에서 OVX군에 비하여 유의하게 증가하였으며, leptin 수준은 대조군인 OVX군에 비하여 유의적으로 감소하였다. 간 중 총지질과 중성지방 및 콜레스테롤은 유의적이지는 않았으나 BRE 투여군에서 OVX군보다 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 따라서, 흑미 호분층은 난소절제 흰쥐에서 지질 대사를 조절함으로써 비만 및 여성의 폐경기 관련 질병을 예방하는 식품이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. This study was conducted to evaluate suppressive effects of black rice aleurone layer extract (BRE) on body fat, serum lipid, and hormone levels in ovariectomized rats. The rats were divided into five groups (n=8/group): sham operated group (S); ovariectomized control group (OVX); ovariectomized group treated with isoflavone 10 mg/kg B.W. (IF); ovariectomized group treated with BRE 30 or 90mg/kg B.W. (BRE-30 or -90). High fat diet (45% calories from fat) was fed to all rats for 12 weeks. Body weight gain, body fat weight, and adiposity index increased in the OVX group, but they significantly decreased in IF or BRE supplementation. Serum triacylglycerol and leptin levels decreased in BRE groups while serum adiponectin level significantly increased compared to that of the OVX group. Hepatic total lipid, triglyceride, and cholesterol levels increased in the OVX group, but they decreased in BRE supplementation (p>0.05). These data suggest that black rice aleurone layer may be a useful food source to decrease obesity and its related diseases by modulating lipid metabolism in estrogen-deficiency model.

This study was carried out to compare the antioxidant activities of Kalopanax pictus bark extract. The flavonoid and polyphenol contents of KBW (K. pictus bark water extract) were 17.13 mg/g and 27.14 mg/g, and KBE (K. pictus bark ethanol extract) were 15.80 mg/g and 21.36 mg/g, respectively. The tyrosinase inhibition of KBE was 16.08% and KBW was 13.15% at 2,000 μg/mL. In the results of xanthine oxidase inhibition, the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of KBW (142.59 μg/mL) represents an excellent activity compared to the ascorbic acid (192.50 μg/mL). The 1,1-diphenyl- 2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, IC50 of KBW and KBE were 13.62 μg/mL, respectively, and 15.70 μg/mL, it was significantly 2.2~2.5 higher compared to the ascorbic acid (34.97 μg/mL). The superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity of KBW was 63.63% (IC50 1,554.90 μg/mL). The nitrite scavenging ability of KBW was 74.77% (IC50 1,000.00 μg/mL) at pH 1.2 and 61.62% (1,264.56 μg/mL) at pH 3.0. This suggest that K. pictus bark can be useful physiological source for the development of cosmetic materials.
