Human-induced vibrations in footbridge cause the disturbance to pedestrians in serviceability. If footbridge has natural frequencies closed to walking pacing rates, excessive vibrations occurred in the bridges have bad effects on safety. This study compares and analyses dynamic behaviors of the footbridge under human-induced dynamic loading by analytic method and experimental method. This study evaluates vibration serviceability of this footbridge and searches the problems expected.

In this study, the effect of application of the bi-directional EDSD(Energy-Dissipating Sacrificial Device) is investigated for skew bridges. The analytical model of the bi-directional EDSD is constructed using bi-directional non-linear spring. The results show that the bi-directional EDSD under seismic excitations can significantly decrease the excessive strong energy in the skew bridge and reduce the horizontal reaction force of pier. Moreover, the proposed device has good economical enhancement of the seismic performance of bridge in the low to moderate seismic regions.

Multi-stepwise thermal prestressing method, which utilizes thermal expansion and contraction of the steel members, is a new design and construction concept for continuous PSC girder bridges. Steel plate is heated temporarily during construction and the contraction by cooling induces prestressing in the structure. This study is to investigate the effect of solar radiation on the prestressing effect of thermally prestressed PSC girder bridges.

A 3-D numerical model, which could demonstrate the static and dynamic responses of a curved bridge more precisely with the moving vehicles, was developed The dynamic response induced by the centrifugal rolling motion of vehicle was identified according to the variations of the partial grade and the curvature of the slab. Dynamic characteristics of the curved bridge with the moving vehicle were analyzed under the condition of support types and two different support systems. Parametric studies were conducted to compare the efficiency of load distribution in the curved bridge. In general, while the vehicle was crossing the curved bridge, negative reaction occurred in the inside of the girder. The final result showed that the support system located outside the girder was more advantageous than other systems, and the characteristics of load distributions differed from the others in the various conditions of support systems.
