This study was carried out to estimate the genetic parameters and the factors having effect on the selection of foundation stock in linebreeding of pig. Between November 1987 and September 1988, data used for this study were a total 145 performance-tested records of pig in Landrace. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The average values of average daily gain(ADG), days to 90kg and backfat at 90kg were 0.79±0.01kg, 159.09±1.81 and 18.64±0.30mm, respectively. 2. The heritability estimates of ADG, days to 90kg and backfat at 90kg were 0.73, 0.72 and 0.36, respectively. The estimates of genetic correlation between ADG and days to 90kg, ADG and backfat at 90kg, backfat at 90kg and days to 90kg were -0.625, 0.482, and -0.635, respectively. 3. It is expected that the on-test age, off-test age and test period of farm test in linebreeding should be fixed on a certain age and period. 4. If boars were 10 heads and sows were 50 heads in closed population, the inbreeding coefficient(F) was estimated 10.50% after 13 generation. 5. The ratios of selection intensity to generation interval were estimated 0.127 and 0.128 in 1st and 2nd parity, hence, 1st parity, 12 month, seems to be appropriate for the generation interval in linebreeding.

한우 생산이력제에 활용 가능한 Microsatellite의 분석과 선발

한우의 생산이력제에 활용 가능한 20종의 microsatellite marker를 선정하고 다형성지수, F-통계량, 동일개체 출현확률, 친자감별 확률 및 유전적 거리지수 등을 MSA, CERVUS, FSTAT, GENEPOP, API-CALC 및 PHYLIP 프로그램 등을 연계적으로 활용하여 추정하였다. Heter- ozygosity 추정치에 근거하여 선발한 11개의 microsatellite(TGLA53, TGLA227, ETH185, TGLA122, BM4305, INRA23, ILSTS013, BMS1747, BM2113, BM2113, BL1009와 ETH3)는 Applied Biosystems사의 StockMakersTM와 비교하여 100배 정도의 동일개체 출현확률이 낮아 한우의 생산이력제 적용에 보다 효율적인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 DA 유전적 거리지수와 pairwise-FST 추정치를 활용하여 근접지역의 농장간 근연관계의 정도를 파악할 수 있는 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. To test applicability to the Hanwoo traceability system, twenty microsatellite markers were selected and analyzed. MSA, CERVUS, FSTAT, GENEPOP, API_CALC and PHYLIP software was employed serially to estimate heterozygosity, polymorphic information content, F-statistics, identity probability, exclusion probability and genetic distance. Eleven microsatellite markers(TGLA53, TGLA227, ETH185, TGLA122, BM4305, INRA23, ILSTS013, BMS1747, BM2113, BL1009, and ETH3) were selected based on their high heterozygosity values. Identity probability using these markers is one hundred times higher than when using StockMakersTM of Applied Biosystems. This indicates the selected microsatellite markers are appropriate and effective for use in the Hanwoo traceability system. Additionally, estimates of DA genetic distance and pairwise-FST can be utilized to identify genetic relationships between adjacent farms.
착유우의 혈청내 호르몬수준과 주요경제형질간의 상관에 관한 연구

The possible use of 3 different hormone levels for selection of some economic traits was examined in 12 lactating Holstein cows. They were divided into two groups of high and low milk yield. The levels of growth hormone(GH). insulin and insulin-like growth factor- I (lGF- I ) were determined in the sera of lactating Holstein cows by radioimmunoassay. There was no difference in the composition of major milk components such as milk fat, protein, lactose, solids-not-fat (SNF) between the high and low yielding group. There was no significant difference between the 2nd and 3rd lactation suggesting that any lactation period may be used for the hormonal analysis. The GH level was higher (p$lt;0.05) in the high yielding group than the low(5.02±0.50 vs 3.05±0.36 ng/㎖). Similar difference was found in the level of IGF-l between the two groups(8.12±0.57 vs 5.73±0.63 n㏖/ℓ, p$lt;0.05). Whereas no significant difference was shown in the level of insulin in the sera of the two groups(25.85±1.93 vs 30.41± 1.96μU/㎖). These results indicate that the levels of GH and IGF-I may be used for the selection of major economic traits in lactating Holstein cows. These approaches could be applied to early selection and selection for other important economic traits in Holstein cows.

We examined the effects of litters mixing during pre-weaning period on the growth trait of piglets, and the possible way of selection for the mothering ability of sow on the behavioral basis of piglet using 6 sews and their 53 piglets. A significant difference(p$lt;0.01) was found in the weight at 8-week of age, being 21.95 ㎏ in experimental vs 19.53 ㎏ in control group. This tendency continued until the time of marketing, gaining an additional 3 kg per piglet. The body weight gain of piglet during 4 weeks(from 4 to 8 weeks age) was also significantly higher(p$lt;0.01), being 14.13 ㎏ in experimental us 11.99 ㎏ in control group. Futhermore. it was found that the behavior of piglets toward the better ow could be used as an indication for the better mothering ability of sow, The results suggest that mixing the litter: during pre-weaning period would give beneficial effects on the growth, and provide an alternative way of selection for the sow with better mothering ability.
