In this study, design methodology to determine optimal shape of the anvil in sizing press process has been proposed to minimize crop length of the AISI 1010 slab in horizontal rolling after width reduction. Shape of anvil were selected to 12 cases by design of experiment, and the dog-bone shapes and the crop length were determined by FE-analysis. Also, the anvil shape, which has minimum crop length, were determined by artificial neural network(ANN). As a result of FEanalysis, it can be seen that the crop length was increased with increasing center thickness in the dog-bone shape after width reduction. The anvil shape which has minimum crop length, was estimated to 1θ =21° 2θ =14° by FE-analysis and ANN.

Generally, a vertical rolling process is used to achieve extensive width reduction in hot strip mill. However, it is impossible to avoid the defects such as dog-bone and edge-seam defect. The sizing press process has been developed in response to the defects mentioned above. Especially, this study is carried out to investigate the deformation of slab by twostep sizing press. The deformation behavior of slab in the sizing press process is more favorable than that in conventional vertical rolling edger. The FE-simulation is applied to predict the deformation behavior of the slab. In this paper, the several causes of the asymmetrical deformation are mentioned for the purpose of understanding of the anvil shape. Load, dog-bone and edge- seam defect are discussed in width sizing process considering the anvil shape. And to reduce the problems generated at rougher mill just after sizing press, these are studied in this paper. The deformation behavior of slabs and optimum anvil shape are obtained by rigid-plastic finite element analyses and neural network.

Edge cracks in cold rolling always influence to the quality of productions, while the “V” shaped cracks were propagated by passing the roll gap. We set up the sizes and shapes of initial cracks in simulation according to the references form real productions. Different to in hot rolling, the cracks in cold rolling couldn’t be reduced from propagation automatically after generate, even if these could be reduced by changing the process parameters. In this paper, we described the affections of process parameters on the propagation of edge cracks, such as reduction ration and tension. We predicted that the dependence of the cracks propagations of changing of process conditions and expected to gain the smaller edge cracks. By raising the reduction ratio, the cracks were propagated increasingly in both transverse and rolling directions. And as tension raise, the cracks became propagated in both directions in which transverse direction was less effectively.

The rolling of flat slabs or sheet metal is probably the most advanced technique of metalworking technology. In spite of this very intensive activity, the problem if edge cracking has not been resolved. Although edge cracking is a major industrial problem, relatively little well-documented experimental work has been published on subject. Despite the paucity of exact experiments, it is reasonably certain from published data that three causes contribute to its occurrence (1) limited ductility of the rolled material (2) uneven deformation at the edges and (3) variations in stresses along the width of the rolled material, particular near the edge. The present study was carried out to show the generation of edge cracking using ductile fracture criteria and FE-simulation. The validity o f simulated results was verified by rolling experiments of steel strip.

This study was attempted to construct the pollution map of off shore water in south-west in korea by bioassay of sea water quality using both gamete and embryo of Schapechinus brevis and also to examine the relationship between embryo development and environmental paramenter. Sea urchin(Schapechinus brevi) gametes and embryos were inhibited strongly by seawater sampled from Youngsan river Hakun and Kwangyang bay inland sea, inhibited weakly by seawater sampled from Muan, Hampeung, Wondo, KangJin inland sea. Temperature: Pluteus was not developed at temperature less than 7℃ and Temperature is proportioned to development velocity. pH : High embryos fertilization was observed the range from pH 7.5 to pH 8.5 and gametes and embryos were strongly inibited below pH 4.5 and above pH 9.5. Salinity : High embryos formation ratio was observed at salinity 28-30‰ and sand dollar gametes and embryos were strongly inhibited below 28 and above 30‰. Sensitivity to sperm exposure time and embryos formation by natural seawater was great in 60 min exposure of sperm. The more sperm exposure time, the more normal pluteus were appeared normal pluteus formation. Embryos formation and concentration of COD and NH₃`-N, SiO₂Si were regularly correlation.
