In this paper, effect of back tension in drawing on central bursting defect is investigated using a rigid-plastic finite element method with the McClintock damage model. Central bursting defects under different back tension stress values are predicted and they are compared to reveal the effect of the back tension stress values on the central bursting defects. It is shown that back tension increases the possibility of central bursting defect.

In this paper, case study on shape defects in cold forging is carried out using a finite element method. The representative defects are found from the related literature or industries. Two different materials, i.e., ESW105 with negligible strain hardening capability SCM435 with typical strain hardening behiviors, are tested for the same problem. The predictions of defect formation are seen through metal flow lines or state variables including effective strain and damage.

In this paper, a reaction-to-die penetration scheme is presented to deal with the force prescribed dies such as the binders in sheet forming or plate forging, the guide plate and counter punch in fine blanking and the spring attached die and back pressing die in forging. A holding force die is employed to define the region where the force is exerted. In the scheme, the holding force is exerted in the material surface in terms of traction which is calculated by a function of penetration depth of material into the die. The scheme is applied to a fine blanking process using a rigid-plastic finite element method. The traction can be regarded as a kind of reaction force to protect the penetration of material into the holding force die. The predictions are discussed to reveal the effect of the reaction-to-die penetration scheme.

This paper was designed to develop the cold forging process design of the drive clutch hub part for the automotive air compressor. FE analysis was used to investigate the effects of the different variables on the material flows in cold forging process and finally derived the optimal process design for drive clutch hub part.

This paper was set process variables of impact extrusion process of an aluminum square case and evaluated each of the process variables. FEM analysis was used to investigate the effects of the different process variables on the material flows in Impact extrusion process and finally derived each process variable effects.
