Acculturation of immigrants is becoming a very important issue in Korean society, and leisure participation is one of the most essential methods to reduce acculturation problems for immigrants. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between leisure sports participation and acculturation for immigrants who moved from the West to Korea. 197 questionnaires were collected using snow-ball sampling method, and total 191 surveys were employed to analyze the data. The results indicated that there were significant differences in assimilation between participants and non-participants in leisure sports, and immigrants’ leisure behavior were affected by their marital status. The findings of this study can contribute to establishing the policies for immigrants which can help adapt themselves to Korean society.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to reexamine whether leisure activity has an effect on enhancement of quality of life through investigating prevenient studies trying to find the relationships among leisure satisfaction, leisure flow, recreation specialization, serious leisure and quality of secure life, and to investigate powerful variables which has an effect on improving the quality of secure life. As the result, when we need to establish some policies about improving the quality of secure life, this study will provide important data to help prioritizing leisure investment or leisure education. Methods: We used meta analysis to achieve purpose of this study. First, We chose 36 research papers which had a standardized coefficient. Second, We classified data according to variables-independent variables were leisure satisfaction, leisure flow, recreation specialization, serious leisure and the dependent variables were the quality of secure life, happiness, life satisfaction. Finally, we did comparative analysis by getting the average value of standardized coefficients among the variables. Conclusion: First, leisure activity had a significant effect on improving the quality of secure life. Second, leisure satisfaction had relatively higher effect on improving the quality of secure life. Third, leisure flow had relatively lower effect on improving the quality of secure life.

This study aims at assessing media frame on camping in articles carried by domestic major newspapers. To achieve this purpose, the key word, ‘camping’ reported in such domestic major newspaper as Chosun Ilbo, Joongang Ilbo and Kyunghyang Shinmun has been searched and analyzed by newspaper, year, section and key word. This process help to decide media frames by categorizing key words through frequency and cross analysis after manual coding operation. The results of this study are as follows: First, the number of articles on camping has not been changed by year, but has been changed by month. Also the articles have been carried in different sections based on given newspapers. Second, the media frames on camping have been camping industry, camping culture, fathering, experience, season, safety accident and the articles on camping industry have been the most dominant frame in terms of the number of articles. Third, the number of articles on camping has been almost same by newspaper, but it is found that there have been differences by section and year. It is identified that domestic newspapers have mainly concentrated on camping with an industrial perspective rather than the characteristics and functionality of a leisure activity.

The current study was aimed to investigate the differences in social capital which was an important factor for acculturation of immigrants from the West based on participation levels in leisure sports and participation in leisure sports clubs and to examine the effects of levels of leisure sports participation on formation of social capital for them. This study targeted immigrants from the West who have lived in South Korea over 12 months. A total of 197 respondents were selected using snow-ball sampling method and 191 surveys were employed for the analyses. The data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 18.0. CFA, frequency, descriptive statistics, reliability, one way-ANOVA, corelation, regression analysis were performed. The findings were as follows: First, there were significant differences in social capital between participation group and non-participation group in leisure sports activities and these clubs. Social capital of participation group in leisure sports clubs is highest followed by participation group in leisure activities and non-participation group in order. However, the degree of participation in leisure sport activities did not influence formation of social capital.

과연 진지하고 전문화된 여가가 삶의 질을 향상시키는가?

The purpose of the current study was to examine the transition of quality of life based on the levels of recreation specialization and serious leisure. A total of 286 college tennis club members selected using the purposive sampling method participated in this study. For the analyses, the reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, K-means cluster analysis, and One-way ANOVA were conducted. The results indicated that there were significant differences in the quality of life among each five groups divided based on the levels of recreation specialization and serious leisure. In each analysis, high level of recreation specialization and high level of serious leisure groups perceived higher quality of life. In addition, differences in the quality of life among four groups; less specialized and less serious group(1), less specialized and more serious group(2), highly specialized and less serious group(3), and highly specialized and more serious group(4) were investigated. The result indicated that there were significant differences in the quality of life between 1 and 4groups, and between 3 and 4groups. The implications and future research directions were described in the manuscript.
