        Teaching of writing through context-based explicit grammar instruction.

        오늘날 음식 만들기가 간편해졌다는 사실에는 의심의 여지가 없지만, 나는 이러한 변화가 우리의 삶을 향상시켰다고 생각하지 않는다. 인스턴트식품들은 우리의 건강에 심각한 문제를 가져왔고 엄청난 환경파괴를 초래하였다. 인스턴트식품들을 사용하여 절약한 시간이 편리한 생활을 가져왔는지는 모르지만, 인간 생활이나 자연 환경에 지금까지 끼쳐온 해와 비교를 해볼 때, 그 가치는 별 의미가 없다고 본다.Applicable levels: tertiary education, secondary education

        조선 초기 李好誠의 生涯와 대외 군사 활동

        This paper reviewed the life and military activities of Lee Ho-seong, who served as an officer during the Joseon Dynasty. Lee Ho-seong was promoted to Mugwa(무과) at the age of 31, and served as a local official in the northern and southern provinces for a long time, playing a major role in defending the Yeojin(여진) and Waegu(왜구) in the early Joseon Dynasty. He did a great job in conquer the Yeojin tribe under Choi Yoon-duk, and was selected by the Gamnyeongwan and played a great role in rearranging Hwapo troops in the Yanggye area. Later, Lee Ho-seong came to the Geoje director and completed the castle of Sadoguri to defend the Waegu. He also posted a letter of intent as Gyeongsangjwado Military Commander and made a policy on defense of the South Sea coast. It was suggested that measures to safeguard the area of the southern coast and measures to establish the authority of Gyeongsangjwado officials from anti-Japanese. He also demonstrated outstanding ability to prevent illegal fishing practices and to reduce diplomatic friction with Japan. 본고는 조선 초기에 무관을 지낸 이호성의 생애와 군사 활동을 검토한 연구이다. 이호성은 31세에 무과에 급제하였으며, 오랜 기간 북방과 남방에 지방관으로 재임하면서 조선 초기에 여진족과 왜구를 방어하는데 큰 역할을 하였다. 그는 최윤덕의 휘하에서 여진족을 정벌하는 데 큰 공을 세웠으며, 감련관에 선발되어 양계지역에 화포군을 정비하는데 큰 역할을 하였다. 이후 이호성은 거제현령으로 부임하여 사등리성을 완성하여 왜구를 방어하였다. 또한 그는 경상좌도 병마절제사로서 상소문을 올려 남쪽 연해안 방어에 관한 계책을 올렸다. 내용은 진관체제를 보완하여 남해안의 연변제읍을 튼튼히 방비할 대책과, 항거왜인으로부터 경상좌도 처치사의 권위를 세우는 방책 등이다. 그는 왜구의 불법적 어로 행위를 막고, 이로 인한 일본과 외교적 마찰을 줄이는 데에도 뛰어난 능력을 발휘하였다.

        일반계 고등학생을 위한 생명공학 예비 과학자 체험 진로 프로그램의 개발 및 적용

        A career experience program in Biotechnology for high school students was developed and its effectiveness was examined. The program is an one-year program consisted with sequential laboratory experiments, demonstration activities, visiting biotechnology laboratory and a lecture of real scientist. The developed career experience program is named Pre-Scientist Experience Program (PSEP). The PSEP was applied twice for science club activity of high school students. To test the effectiveness of PSEP, pre- and post-genetic concept tests, post-questionnaires, students' activity reports, and interviews were examined and analyzed. The results showed that PSEP was positively effective to improve student's understanding of genetic concepts. Students felt a sense of accomplishment and feelings of becoming scientist after this program. Also, this program appeared to significantly affect their decision on future career or major in University and gave chances on developing scientific aptitude. Taken together, these results suggested that PSEP is applicable and useful as an career education program to enhance self-understanding, career informations finding, and career planning for high school students.

        龜巖 李楨의 서적편찬과 간행이 道統 확립에 미친 영향

        This article studies publishing process of 22 works issued by Lee Jeong and their character, through which finds that his publishing process intertwine with the process for establishing confucian orthodoxy of Zhu Xi’s Neo-Confucianism(朱子性理學) mainly based on Toegye(退溪). Efforts to establish confucian orthodoxy of Toegye have converged into building Seowon(書院) and publication. Holding local official, Lee Jeong actively accepted Toegye’s opinion when he built Seowon and published books. He would construct a shrine dedicated to Gil Jae(吉再) during his term of local office. Since then, he had built Seoakjeongsa(西岳精舍), Okcheonjeongsa(玉川精舍), Guamjeongsa(龜巖精舍). There were the most Eonhaengroklike(言行錄類) among books published by Lee Jeong, which, based on Zhu Xi’s perception of confucian orthodoxy, reveal point of confucian study of ethics(道學) and its accession through one’s achievements and thoughts. And he published books of poetry and prose(詩文類) à la confucian study of ethics(道學風) and works of confucian of Ming dynasty(明儒) reputed to theoretical Neo-Confucian(純正性理學者). This established confucian orthodoxy in Song(宋)ㆍYuan(元)ㆍMing dynasty with Zhu Xi as the central figure. And he solidified Kim Goengpil(金宏弼)’s place in confucian orthodoxy of Joseon(朝鮮) by compiling and publishing Kyunghyunrok(『景賢錄』). 본고는 이정이 간행한 서적 22종의 간행과정과 서적의 성격을 검토하였다. 이를 통해 이정의 서적간행은 퇴계를 중심으로 전개된 주자성리학의 道統 확립과정과 밀접하게 연관된다는 것을 밝혔다. 퇴계의 도통 확립을 위한 노력은 서원 건립과 서적 간행으로 집약된다. 이정은 지방관으로 재임하면서 서원을 건립하고 서적을 편찬할 때는 퇴계의 의견을 적극 반영하였다. 이정은 善山郡守 재임 시에 吉再의 사당에 들러서 제사를 받들고 허물어져가는 사당을 새로 지으려 하였다. 이후에는 西岳精舍와 玉川精舍를 건립하여 성현을 봉사하였다. 이정이 간행한 서적은 朱子의 도통인식에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 인물의 행적과 학설을 통해 道學의 요점과 그 계승을 밝힌 ‘言行錄’類 서적이 가장 많았다. 그리고 송대 도학자들의 문장과 행실 속에서 도학의 면모를 재조명하고자 한 道學風의 詩文類 서적을 많이 간행하였다. 또한 퇴계가 명대의 순정성리학자로 평가하는 明儒의 저술을 간행하여 명대 朱子學의 동향의 일단을 알 수 있도록 하였다. 이를 통해 주자를 중심으로 송ㆍ원ㆍ명대까지 주자성리학자의 도통을 이해하고자 하였다. 또한 『景賢錄』을 편찬ㆍ간행하여 조선에서 주자성리학의 道統에서 김굉필의 위치를 굳건히 하였다.

        고등학생 대상 맞춤의학 체험 프로그램 개발 및 적용

        5 Instruction modules of personalized medicine experience program for high school students were developed and applied on school science programs. The program focused on gene analysis was composed of serial molecular biology experiments which are DNA extraction from oral cavity epidermal cells, duplication of target DNA by PCR, and Gel electrophoresis for confirmation of genomic DNA and ACE polymorphism respectively and a computer search activity for ACE using NCBI site. Program applied on 7 classes of 126 high school students and analyzed students′ responses with questionnaire. 88.9% Students accomplished total program successfully and they diagnosed the possibility of hereditary high blood pressure. Students’ most interesting activity is Agarose gel electrophoresis, Duplication of DNA by PCR, DNA extraction, and NCBI searching in order. Students’ worst difficulty is Loading DNA specimen on agarose gel, Making PCR specimen, Using micropipette, DNA extraction, and Making agarose gel orderly. 39.1% of newly learned science knowledge were from PCR activity among 4. They have positively experienced molecular biology experiments, future career, personalized medicine, bioinformatics and etc. From the results, developed program was helpful to experience personalized medicine for high school students.

        【연구논문】 『眉巖日記』를 통해 본 柳希春의 서적교류와 地方板本의 유통

        The research treated the publication and distribution of the local editions in the first half of SunCho(the King of the Joseon Dynasty), analyzing and investigating the 『MiAm diary』 of Yoo Hee chwun. When sees the record of book circulation in his diary, we can observes that the total 184 papers, the local editions and books published in kyoSeoGuan(printing office), was circulating. Among them, the local editions was about 111 papers and the book published in KyoSeoGuan was about 73, this shows that the former was more about 40 species of papers than the latter. That is, the local editions in the middle of the 16th century was more proportion for publishing and distributing of paper than the book published in KyoSeoGuan. The following are the recent distributing tendency of the book. The whole book was given a great deal of weight of the book of GyeongBu(經部), furthermore the local editions and the book published in KyoSeoGuan was about 30 species and 24 species respectively, the two were not significantly different. The Joseon Dynasty had a base of the Neo-Confucianism and the politics on Sarim was formed in the first half of SunCho, so the book of GyeongHak(經學) was recognized importantly on the region and the center alike. The book of SaBu(史部) was 7 sorts of the local editions, by contrast the book published in KyoSeoGuan was 14 sorts, twice the number of Sabu book. The book of GiaBu(子部) was 34 kinds of the local editions, by contrast the book published in KyoSeoGuan was 19 kinds. The local editions were twice. The book of Confucianism(儒家) in the GiaBu serves to show Yoo Hee chwun's scholastic tendency well, he has tried to sort out natural sciences(理學) focused on JuJa's Neo-Confucianism. 『HakBuTongByun(學蔀通辨)』 which was regarded as a heresy beyond JuJa’s Neo-Confucianism, published in both the locals and KyoSeoGuan. Also, 『SongKeiWonMyungLeeHakTongRok(宋季元明理學通錄)』 which was organized JuJa's Neo-Confucianism from JuJa in the NamSong(南宋) into the Ming, was published in the local. He arranged the typical write of Neo-Confucianism scholar in the Joseon, and then published the book, 『KukJoUSeangRok(國朝儒先錄)』. And he published 『SongJoSokMyungSinUnHangRok(宋朝續名臣言行錄)』, this book was updated 『MyungSinUnhangrok(名臣言行錄)』 which had human nature and natural laws the successive Neo-Confucianism scholar in the China. The collection of works of SimHak(心學) in the Ming like a HoGeoIn(胡居仁), LaHunSun(羅欽順), WangSuIn(王守仁) and so on was not distributed in the book ByulJib(別集), the result stands that Yoo Hee chwun published the book focused on GiuJa's Neo-Confucianism. After all, this shows that he played an important role in GiuJa's Neo-Confucianism focused on Neo-Confucianism in the first half of SunCho.

        Effects of Grammar Instruction in Context with Writing Practice on Students' Manuscript Writing in an EAP Course

        Woo, Jung-Im. 2015. Effects of Grammar Instruction in Context with Writing Practice on Students' Manuscript Writing in an EAP Course. Korean Journal of English Language and Linguistics 15-2, 149-180. The purpose of this study is to examine whether grammar instruction in context and genre-based writing practice have positive influences on writing a final presentation manuscript in an EAP (English for Academic Purposes) course. Also, in order to suggest a more practical English program which combines writing and presentation in EFL contexts, the participants’ responses toward the course were also reviewed. A total of 94 Korean university students majoring in engineering participated in the study, and the findings are as follows. First, grammar instruction in context was effective on improving the students' grammatical accuracy on the final manuscript writings in the experimental group except for 'subject-verb agreement' and 'articles,' which seem to be correlated to the negative influence of the students' L1. Second, two thirds or more of the students were satisfied with genre-based writing practice. Especially, they preferred the types of controlled writing and recombination to free writing and paraphrasing. Third, 26.6 percent of the students had difficulty following the course, which could be due to their little writing experience. Lastly, about a third of the students requested for more interactive discussion in English during manuscript writing. Based on the findings, this study provides some pedagogical suggestions for both instructors and EFL students in EAP courses.
