We study that their optimal extraction condition honey maesil (Prunus mume) extracts to health functional food were extracted with the honey. The extraction ration was in the condition of 1 maesil and 1.5 honey weight for 2 months. As standard ingredient, citric acid were determined 10.2mg/g in honey maesil extracts by HPLC. Cyan compound was not detected by the picrate method. Also Escherichia coli was not detected by 3M paper method. The honey maesil extracts contained free sugars as fructose and glucose (43.5%), and sucrose (1.5%). These results suggest that honey is the effective extracts method for the health functional food in maesil extracts.

Propolis is a sticky material like resin made from plant growing point which are collected by bees, then mixed with bee saliva enzyme. It is used to keep bee colony safe by applying inside of bee hive. The propolis, it is necessary to extract the active ingredient in raw material, mainly extracted by the ethyl alcohol. Ethanol extracted propolis collected from different regions in Korea, we compared the total flavonoids and total phenolic contents. The average of total flavonoids content of propolis were 6.1% in central regions, 5.7% in southern regions, however, propolis in Jeju island represented the average value of 0.44%. The other areas showed a value of 7.4%. The total phenolic contents of propolis were 21.8% in the central region, 20.9% in southern regions, 13.7% in Jeju, and the other areas showed a value of 29.4%. Although some differences depending on the region, the propolis produced in Korea has been as the substance that is rich in flavonoids and phenolics.

Propolis, bee glue is a sticky substances, which is used to prevent corruption of the ones who broke into the hive, and which is known as a substance that inhibits the growth of microorganisms within the hive. In order to use this propolis, is required to extract the active ingredients from the raw propolis. Mainly goes through the process of extraction with ethanol. Propolis is registered as health functional food for food and drug safety with a valid registration which is anti-oxidant effects and anti microbial effects of oralflora. In this study, in order to determine the antioxidant effect of propolis produced in various regions collected 58 regions. Antioxidant effects were tested by DPPH free radical scavenging effects method. Propolis concentrations were prepared with 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000μg, by the free radical scavenging effects were 500μg Gangwon region showed higher value, 50~100μg Gyeong-gi and Chungcheong region were found to be in the high, Jeolla, Gyeongsang region in the 100~500μg was higher. More than a certain concentration was to determine antioxidant falling rather. These results can be said to suggest if you use the edible excess should be avoided. And then, Jeju lower than in the other regions were shown to be higher with increasing concentration. The propolis of Jeju Island, unlike in other regions the same amount of propolis antioxidant effects appeared low.

Bee venom (Apis mellifera) has been used inflammatory diseases in Korean traditional medicine. The main component of bee venom is melittin that enhances the activity phospholipase A₂ and D. However, the molecular mechanism for melittin in hepatocytes apoptosis is still not cleared. In this study, we examined the effect of melittin in ethanol induced hepatocytes apoptosis. Melittin treatment was increased antiapoptotic activity of bcl-2 and bcl-xL, reduced pro-apoptotic activity of bax, cytochrome c, caspase-3, -9 and PARP in ethanol induced hepatocytes apoptosis. These result suggest that melittinin inhibits hepatocytes apoptosis. Therefore, melittin may be effective therapeutic agent for alcohol liver disease.
국산 프로폴리스의 Helicobacter pyrori 억제효과

Propolis possesses antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anaesthetic and immunostimulating activities. The aim of this study was to evaluated chemical composition and in vitro anti-Helicobacter pylori activity of eight propolis ethanolic extracts form different region in Korea. The chemical composition of eight Korean propolis was investicated by absorption spectrophotomety and UHPLC. Total penolic and total flavonoids content ranged between $21{\pm}1.5$ and $31{\pm}1.8$ gallic acid g/100 g and $7.2{\pm}0.9$ and $24.4{\pm}1.9$ quercetin g/100 g, respectively. The p-coumaric acid as standard components content ranged between $0.29{\pm}0.00$ and $2.34{\pm}0.02mg/g$ using UHPLC. Cinnamic acid content between $0.43{\pm}0.00$ and $1.33{\pm}0.01mg/g$. 80% ethanolic extract of propolis against H. pylori was evaluated by using the disc diffusion method. Ethanol was used as a control. Mean diameters of H. pylori growth inhibition using $10{\mu}g/mL$, $50{\mu}g/mL$ or $100{\mu}g/mL$ ethanol propolis per disc were 0, ranging from 0.9 to 2.1 mm and from 1.9 to 3.5 mm, respectively. In conclusion, variation in the chemical composition of Korean propolis were mainly due to the difference in the preferred regional plants visited by honeybees. Also Korean propolis possesses considerable antibacterial activity against H. pylori. There was not confirmed a correlation between the chemical composion contens and anti-H. pylori effect. The potential of propolis in the prevention or treatment of H. pylori infection is worth further extensive evaluation.

To monitor the preservation of genetic characteristics of eight superb lineages, 11 loci for microsatellite markers were selected among 121 candidates. These selected microsatellite markers showed high specificities in PCR test with eight lineages which have good characters in honey productivity, oviposition rate, disease resistance, and gentleness. Two of 11 loci were cloned and sequenced to verify their nucleotide sequence varieties in repeat unit regions. Repeat unit region of amms-219 was observed (AG)? to (AG)<SUB>28</SUB> repeats and amms-260 showed (CT)? to (CT)<SUB>28</SUB> repeats. The results may help to develop reliable microsatellite markers for more efficient preservation strategies of valuable honeybee breeds.

We evaluated the nutritional composition including proximate, amino acid, vitamin, minerals, and the antioxidant activity of buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) pollen grains collected by Apis mellifera bees, to be used as a species of forage plant with Quercus acutissima (acorn) and Actinidia arguta pollen grains. The content of crude protein and fat were found 14.43% and 5.67%, respectively. Eighteen amino acids from buckwheat pollen were found, including 8 essential amino acids. The predominant amino acids were glutamic acid, aspartic acid and lysine, accounting for about 42.7% of total free amino acids. The concentration of vitamin C was the highest value of 13.7 mg/100g, followed by B₃ (niacin) and B₁ among the detected vitamins. The predominant minerals were potassium (1197.95mg/100g), followed by phosphorus (962.77mg/100g) and magnesium (535.42mg/100g), whereas copper, zinc and manganese were detected as minor elements. Antioxidant activity and total phenolic content accounted for 8.1% at 500μg/ml extract and 2.25μg/mg, respectively.

We investigated the nutritional composition including proximate, amino acid, vitamin, minerals, and the antioxidant activity of rice (Oryza sativa) pollen grains collected by Apis mellifera bees, to be used as sources for feeding bee colonies and as healthy human food supplements with Quercus acutissima (acorn) and Actinidia arguta pollen grains. Crude protein and fat content were found 15.66% and 5.31%, respectively. Eighteen amino acids from rice pollen were found, including 8 essential amino acids and 10 non-essential amino acids. The predominant amino acids were proline, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and lysine accounting for about 47.7% of total free amino acids. The concentration of vitamin B₃ (niacin) was the highest value, followed by C and B₂ among the detected vitamins. The predominant minerals were potassium (514.45㎎/100g), followed by phosphorus and calcium, whereas sodium (Na), zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe) were detected as minor elements. Antioxidant activity and phenolic content accounted for 36.09% and 15.67㎍/㎎, respectively.

Purified bee venom was collected from colonies of honeybees (Apis mellifera L.) using a bee venom collector under sterile conditions and then purified under strict laboratory conditions. Purified bee venom contained 63.9±5.4% melittin, 10.9±1.6% phospholipase A2, and 2.3±0.3% apamin. Purified bee venom has various anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and immunostimulating effects. In this study, we evaluated purified bee venom which are mammary gland cells, MAC-T cells are used to increase the synthesis of milk protein. Purified bee venom promoted the proliferation of MAC-T cells at concentrations below 1 μg/mL, but cytotoxicity at 10 μg/mL and above. As a result of the increase in the synthesis of β-casein, a milk protein after treatment with MAC-T cells at a concentration of the bee venom without cytotoxicity, the β-casein content in the cell culture was increased when treated at a concentration of 1 ng/mL or more. In addition, it was confirmed that purified bee venom significantly increased the expression of bovine β-casein (bCSNB) mRNA, a β-casein synthesis gene, at a concentration of 1 ng/mL or more. These results suggest that purified bee venom can be used to increase the production of livestock by ultimately increasing the expression of milk protein
제주산 감귤꿀과 유채꿀의 항산화 및 멜라닌 생성 억제 효과

In order to investigate the potential of Korean honey for whitening cosmetics, we prepared citrus blossom and oilseed rape honey from Jeju island in Korea. Citrus blossom and oilseed rape honey were showed antioxidant activities, such as 1,1-diphenyl-2-pycrylhydrazyl (DPPH) (IC<SUB>50</SUB>=29.25 and 41.5㎍/mL, respectivity) and 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) (IC50=38.25 and 59.25㎍/mL, respectivity). We measured their inhibitory effects on mushroom tyrosinase and melanin synthesis in B16F1. Both citrus blossom and oilseed rape honey were showed inhibitory activity higher than positive control, arbutin against mushroom tyrosinase. Citrus blossom and oilseed rape honey significantly prevented melanin production without effects on cell viability. When 25㎍/mL of citrus blossom and oilseed rape honey were applied, they reduced melanin contents of B16F1 melanoma cells about 62.25% and 70.25%, respectively. Therefore, this study suggests that citrus blossom and oilseed rape honey may be useful as a natural skin whitening agent.
