왕중산,김년준 국제물리치료연구학회 2024 Journal of International Academy of Physical Ther Vol.15 No.1

Background: Self-myofascial release using a foam roller has short-term effects for improving muscle function and joint range of motion (ROM) and reducing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) after exercise. Objectives: The purpose of our study was to examine the muscle physiological changes for each set in self-myofascial release of the hamstring muscles using a foam roller in order to provide basic data for the most effective program composition for improving muscle tension, stiffness, and flexibility of the hamstring muscles. Design: A quasi-experimental clinical trial. Methods: To confirm the effect of self-myofascial release of the hamstring muscles using a foam roller, muscle tone and stiffness of the hamstring muscles were measured. As an intervention method, the study subject performed four sessions of self-myofascial release by moving a foam roller back and forth on the posterior thigh muscle of the right leg. Results: There were statistically significant changes in the stiffness of the biceps femoris and the flexibility of the hamstring muscles. Conclusion: Self-myofascial release with foam rolling is an effective intervention method for increasing hamstring flexibility and ROM, and it is recommended as effective to perform self-myofascial release for three to four sessions to maintain normal muscle tone and stiffness of the hamstring muscles.

왕중산 국제물리치료연구학회 2022 Journal of International Academy of Physical Ther Vol.13 No.3

Background: Height is an important factor in determining a person’s appearance, so people often wear height increase elevator shoes insoles (HIESI) or high heels to make themselves look taller. However, high heels often act as a risk factor for musculoskeletal diseases. Objectives: To investigated how muscle tone and muscle stiffness in the lumbar region of young adult men varied according to the height of the HIESI, and analyzed the correlation. Design: Non-randomised trial. Methods: Muscle tone and muscle stiffness in the upper and lower lumbar regions of 20 healthy young adult men in an upright standing position were measured as the subjects wore no insoles and 2 cm, 3 cm, and 4 cm insoles. Results: Muscle tone and muscle stiffness in the lumbar region did not show a significant change according to the increased height of the HIESI. However, a positive correlation was observed when the subjects wore 4 cm HIESI, as there was a significant increase (P<.05) in muscle tone and stiffness in the left side of the upper lumbar region and in the right side of the lower lumbar region. Conclusion: Wearing HIESI for short periods of time in the static standing position did not cause a change in muscle tone and muscle stiffness in the lumbar region. However, wearing 4 cm HIESI demonstrated a correlation of increased muscle tone and stiffness in the upper and lower lumbar regions in an asymmetric manner.

공연예술전공 학생의 근골격계 문제와 신체적 자기효능감 연구: 대학생을 중심으로

        왕중산,김성태 한국엔터테인먼트산업학회 2022 한국엔터테인먼트산업학회논문지 Vol.16 No.8

This study aims to investigate the major-related work-related musculoskeletal disorders of performing art students and their level of physical self-efficacy, as well as examine the relationship between the two. The study participants were performing art students from a university. In total, 215 data sets were obtained from the participants using a structured self-administered questionnaire. The study results show that the proportion of musculoskeletal symptom(MSS) by body part is highest in the shoulder and the leg/foot (27.0%). The proportion of musculoskeletal disorder(MSD) by body part is highest in the waist (13.5%), followed by the leg/foot (11.2%). Notably, the longer the pain period in the leg/foot, the greater the physical burden (r=220, p=.047),; the higher the pain degree in the leg/foot, the more debilitating the physical burden (r=.236, p=.033). Furthermore, there are positive correlations between all sub-domains of physical self-efficacy. Moreover, when compared to healthy students, students who complained of MSD in the shoulder and waist had significantly lower “physical self-expression confidence” and “physical self-efficacy” (p<0.05). When compared to healthy students, those who complained of MSD in their leg/foot had significantly lower “physical self-expression confidence” (p<0.01). This study finds that developing a prevention program for musculoskeletal problems that is customized for each body part is required for physical and mental health management in performing arts major students.

A Comparative Study on the Pulmonary Function between Smoking Soldier and Non-smoking Soldier

왕중산,최명진 국제물리치료연구학회 2018 Journal of International Academy of Physical Ther Vol.9 No.4

Smoking can be a significant cause of lung diseases and reduced respiratory functions. Among soldiers, smoking may have a negative impact on their health (physical strength) and well being. Information on differences in the respiratory functions of smokers and nonsmokers in the military services and the effects of the smoking duration and amount (i.e., the number of cigarettes smoked per day) would be useful. This study investigated smoking durations and smoking amounts among young male soldiers (N = 61). The forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (FEV1), and forced expiratory volume in 1 sec/forced vital capacities (FEV1/FEC) were measured FVC, FEV1, or FEV1/FEC of smokers and nonsmokers were not significantly different, and FVC and FEV1 were inversely proportional to smoking duration. Besides, the number of cigarettes smoked per day was not correlated with respiratory functions. These findings may be attributed to the effect of the strenuous physical activity (e.g., military drills) undertaken by soldiers on their respiratory functions. Despite the lack of evidence for a difference in the respiratory functions of smokers and nonsmokers, this study recommends ongoing respiratory function management through smoking cessation programs and respiratory physiotherapy to manage the respiratory functions of Korean smoking soldiers.
