An IbEF1 from sweet potato promotes flowering in transgenic tobacco

A novel gene, denoted IbEF1isolated from sweet potato corresponded to the most abundant mRNA present in root tissue under salt stress. However, the encoded protein did not accumulate in the shoots. Transgenic tobacco plants were generated to elucidate the physiological function of IbEF1. The extent of early flowering of these plants correlated well with the level of IbEF1 expression, implicating IbEF1 as a positive regulator of flowering of tobacco plants. Over-expression of IbEF1 enhanced the AP1 gene in response to flowering time, but not floral organ development. These results demonstrate that simple manipulation of IbEF1 activity has great potential with regard to flowering time.

PURPOSES : This study is to suggest future development direction and application of environmental noise barriers as multi-functional soundproof wall. METHODS : Based on the literature review, case study and patent search, research and patent trend were investigated. Patent search was conducted by Patent searching tools‘, Focust’. RESULTS : As environmental noise barriers, Vegetative soundproof wall, photovoltaic soundproof wall, and air-pollution reduction soundproof wall were investigated. First of all, In Korea, Vegetative soundproof wall is being developed mostly as soundproof wall that has vegetation foundation inside, to meet the domestic condition with 23 patent applications. Second, Photovoltaic soundproof wall is being developed mainly with efficiency of photovoltaic system rather than soundproofing. And it is limited to one generation solar cell technology, although Solar cell technology is developing at a rapid pace. On the other hand, for reducing air-pollutant by soundproof wall, a variety of methods are being suggested (filtration, adsorption, and photocatalytic oxidation), and one of them, adsorption are applied for developing air pollution reduction soundproof wall in Korea. CONCLUSIONS: The above soundproof wall is not simple structure, but road facility applied fusion technique. Therefore, as one system, it is difficult to harmonize due to various considerations for design factor. However, if it’s possible that a benefits of one system apply to another system, Synergy effect may be created. In the foreseeable future, soundproof wall may be considered as a road system using fusion technique rather than just functional facility. Therefore, substantial studies for applying multi-functional soundproof wall on the road are needed for the future.

교육연극을 활용한 말하기 학습이 초등학생의 자기 표현력에 미치는 효과

국문초록누락 The purpose of this study was at investigating how educational drama influences learners' self-expression in learning Korean spoken language. For this purpose, subjects were chosen ; 2 classes of 2nd grade in K. elementary school, Namyangju-si in Kyunggi province. Pre and post test was developed to evaluate the verbal and non-verbal self-expression based on the 2nd grade Korean speaking curriculum and related theories. After the pre-test experimental group was taught speaking using educational drama and control group, using typical method of speaking for 16 class hours from March 11 to April 26, 2004. As a results, the educational drama was effective on developing the non-verbal self-expressions in using both gestures and facial expressions. The educational drama was effective on developing the verbal self-expressions in vocal sound and content of speaking. The educational drama was more effective on non-verbal expression than on the verbal expression, but meaningful difference was not found statistically. In conclusion, the educational drama is the effective method to develop students' verbal and non-verbal self-expression in speaking. But the present study has some limitations in terms of the subjects and the contents. The further research should deal with other graders and various contents to generalize the positive effect of educational drama on self-expression in learning speaking.
