Inflammatory disseminated superficial porokeratosis is an unusual pruritic variant of disseminated superficial porokeratosis, and this was first described by Kanzaki in 1992 as eruptive pruritic papular porokeratosis. Since the first report, 8 cases of inflammatory disseminated superficial porokeratosis have been reported in English language dermatologic literature and only one case has been reported in the Korean dermatologic literature. The condition is clinically characterized by an acute pruritic exacerbation of disseminated superficial porokeratosis, which had been asymptomatic for several years. Usually the skin lesions show improvement after several months, leaving brownish atrophic lesions. Histopathologic examination reveals the cornoid lamella with an infiltration of eosinophils and lymphocytes in the upper dermis. Herein, we report on an 81-year-old Korean man with inflammatory disseminated superficial porokeratosis, and this was clinically and histopathologically diagnosed. Minocycline 경화 요법으로 치료한 Digital Mucous Cyst

Digital mucous cysts are observed frequently on the lateral or dorsal aspect of the digital fingers. Digital mucous cysts are prone to recur after simple excision, electrocoagulation, intralesional injection of corticosteroid and a variety of other therapeutic maneuvers. In thias report, we describe one patient with digital mucous cyst who was successfully treated with intralesional injection of 1 mg/ml of minocycline hydrochloride without any sequelae. Melanotrichoblastoma

Melanotrichoblastoma is a variant of pigmented trichoblastoma that shows highly pigmented epithelial lobules and differentiation toward the hair bulb. Histologically, the tumor presents features of trichoblastoma, and the histological findings are remarkable by virtue of the heavy melanin deposits found within and around the tumor cell nests. For the immunohistochemistry, abundant dendritic melanocytes (with the expressions of S100 protein, tyrosinase and most importantly, gp100/HMB45) are found within the tumor masses. We report here on a rare case of melanotrichoblastoma in a 57 year-old female patient. (Korean J Dermatol 2009;47(1):80~83)

연자육의 항우울 효과에 대한 뇌부위별 신경전달물질의 변화

선행 연구에서 연자육 추출물 중 강제수영 검사를 통해 항우울 효과를 검증하여 가장 뛰어난 결과를 보인 NS37 (n-BuOH 추출물의 추가 분획물, H2O:MeOH=3:7)의 항우울 효과 기전을 규명하고자, HPLC-ECD 시스템을 이용하여 뇌의 우울증 신경회로로 알려진 대뇌피질-시상하부-해마의 부위별 세로토닌과 도파민의 함량을 조사하고 이들 대사산물의 측정 및 대사속도를 검토하였다. 연구 결과 NS37-10 (10 mg/kg)군에서 대뇌피질, 시상하부, 해마에서 도파민의 유의한 증가 및 시상하부, 해마에서 도파민 교체율의 유의한 감소를 나타냄으로써 항우울 효과를 확인하였다. In the previous study, we examined that a variety of extracts of Nelumbinis semen (NS) have an antidepressant effect on the forced swimming test (FST) in the rat, which is widely used as a behavioral screening test for antidepressant activity of new compounds. Depression-like symptom in n-BuOH extract showed the strongest inhibitory effect on the immobility time and further fractionated n-BuOH with H2O and MeOH (3:7) fraction (NS37) was the most effective on the immobility time on FST. The purpose of the present study was to observe the neurochemical changes on the anti-depressant actions of unknown compounds in the NS37 extract by using HPLC coupled with electrochemical detection (ECD). The results showed that the NS37-10 (10mg/kg) has a significant increase of dopamine in cortex, hypothalamus, and hippocampus and a significant decrease of dopamine turnover in hypothalamus and hippocampus. These neurochemical actions of NS37 extract could be responsible for the beneficial effect on depression. (Korean J Str Res 2008;16:393∼400)

Late-onset focal dermal elastosis is a recently described disorder afflicting elderly patients with yellow papules on the neck and flexural areas. Although there are similar clinical findings to pseudoxanthoma elasticum, no stigmata of pseudoxanthoma elastimum are not evident. Histologically the papules are characterized by increased elastic fibers of normal appearance in the mid and deep dermis and no evidence of solar elastosis. Late-onset focal dermal elastosis may be caused by focal accumulation of normal appearing elastic tissue due to loss of age related homeostatic growth regulating gene control mechanism. We report a case of pseudoxanthoma elasticum-like late-onset focal dermal elastosis and suggest that this condition may be more common than has been reported. (Korean J Dermatol 2007;45(9):923∼925)

오징어 유래 포스파티딜세린(phosphatidylserine)의 in vitro 항염 효과

본 연구에서는 Raw264.7 대식 세포주에서 lipopolysaccharide (LPS)로 유도된 tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)와 interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β)의 분비에 대한 오징어 유래 포스파티딜세린(phosphatidylserine)의 효과를 확인하였다. Raw264.7 대식 세포주에서 PS의 세포독성 효과는 MTT 분석으로 조사하였으며, TNF-α와 IL-1β의 mRNA 및 단백질의 발현 정도는 각각 RT-PCR 및 ELISA 분석법으로 확인하였다. PS는 100μg/ml 농도까지는 세포 독성을 나타내지 않았으며, 세포 독성을 보이지 않는 농도에서 LPS로 유도된 IL-1β와 특히 TNF-α의 mRNA 및 단백질의 발현을 저해하였다. 이러한 실험 결과는 염증성 질환을 위한 유용한 물질로써 PS의 개발 가능성을 시사한다고 사료된다. In the present study, the effects of squid-derived phosphatidylserine (PS) have been evaluated on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- induced release of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) in the macrophage Raw 264.7 cells. The cytotoxicity of PS in Raw 264.7 macrophages was measured by MTT-based cytotoxicity assay. The mRNA and protein levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-1β were measured by quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. Cytotoxic effects of PS in Raw 264.7 macrophages were not observed at concentration up to 100 μg/ml. Squid PS inhibited the mRNA and protein expression of TNF-α but not IL-1β. Taken together, these results indicated that squid-originated PS exhibited a significant activity of anti-inflammation in vitro and might be a useful candidate for treating various inflammatory diseases. Enterobiasis is a common disease among school-aged children, with worldwide distribution and high prevalence in countries with a temperate climate. Enterobius vermicularis usually inhabits the intestinal lumen, and the majority of clinical presentations are perianal pruritus. Extraintestinal infection is uncommon, mostly involving the female genital tract. It has been reported to occur in the peritoneal cavity, ovary, fallopian tube, endometrium, lung, liver, urinary tract and perianal tissue. In Korea, there has been only 1 case of enterobiasis presenting as perianal abscess in the Korean pathologic literature. So we present here an unusual case of perianal granuloma by Enterobius vermicularis in a 62-year-old woman. Korean J Dermatol 2011;49(10):948∼951)

아프리카 천연가스 확보를 통한 한국 기업의 사업다각화 방안

The competition for securing natural resources around the world including the United States, Europe and other big energy-consuming countries such as China and India is growing fiercer. Despite heated negotiations through diplomatic channels on easy access to Africa's natural resources, which have emerged as a new supply source, South Korea, highly relying on imported energy, has not yet made any impressive entry into the African resources market. Africa has 8% of the world's natural gas reserves confirmed with 72.4 years of possible exploitation capacity. But in the region where the great potential for deeper penetration is possible, approaches to securing the supply should be different from those taken by other countries that have already set foot in Africa. Therefore, when entering the continent trapped in a vicious circle of civil wars and poverty, we should first build relations of mutual trust by providing the accumulated knowledge we have learnt in the process of economic development rather than using aggressive diplomacy or investment. Besides, efficient use of small and medium gas fields in Africa and direct contribution to the development of the local economy should be considered, along with establishing the closely-linked business system between private and public sectors by introducing new business models based on natural gas such as hydrogen fuel cells, GTL or Eco-Generation which global energy firms are developing as part of business diversification. As a result, This will lead to positive effects and boost our national image, puting our nation in an advantageous position for future competitions surrounding other natural resources.
