백리향 (Thymus quinquecostatus Celakovsky) 잎에 분포하는 두상형 분비모의 미세구조
신현철,유성철,Shin, Hyun-Chur,Yu, Seong-Cheol 한국현미경학회 1998 Applied microscopy Vol.28 No.2
The glandular secretory system of the capitate gandular trichomes in leaf of Thymus quinquecostatus Celakovsky was examined by transmission electron microscope. The glandular trichome was consisted of three cell layers; an basal cell layer, a stalk cell with single-celled intermediate layer and a discoid secretory layer with thickened cuticle. The secretory cell was dense, rich in mitochondria, rER, plastds, Golgi complex and had many vesicular structure. Typical plastids with reticulate body and plastoglobule were present in glandular trichome. The tytoplasm of secretory cell was filled with osmiophilic secretory materials. The secretory vesicles, originated from Golgi complex, appeared as membrane bounded vesicles and secreted to the outer wall surface. The presences of well developed rER, mitochondria, Golgi complex, and membrane-bounded vesicles fused with plasmalemma in the secreting cells indicate that the granulocrine mechanism of secretion was occurring in T. quinquecostatus. Subcuticular cavity was developed between the cuticular layer and the secretory cell wall, and it formed above the secretory cell upon separation of cuticle-wall.

Chinese letter Chu were twice cited as the plant name in Shijing. Chu had been interpreted as the useless tree or the heaven tree (Ailanthus altissima) recently. To understand Shijing and translate Chu from Chinese into Korean properly, the taxonomic identity of Chinese letter Chu should be verified. From the case study, we have concluded as follows; 1) The Chinese letter Chu had been considered as the useless tree without any botanical characters in Zhuangzi, however from the Post Han, as the heaven tree having the resins in stem, strong smells in leaf, ring porous wood and used as the habitate of spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) in China. Therefore, Chu in Shijing should be understood as the useless tree, not the heaven tree. 2) The heaven tree is not native plants in Korea, and when this plant was introduced is not known. Chu cited in the Korean literature at Kingdom of Joseon was not the heaven tree. Chu related to King Taejo was confirmed as the birch tree, and included in the post Joseon was the heaven tree. 3) Chu in Shijing should be translated into Korean as ‘bad tree’ or ‘useless tree’, not the heaven tree.

The degree of green naturality(DGN), standing crop and productivity were estimated in Chungbuk, Chunbuk and Kyungnam district from April, 1988 to October, 1988, as a part of the National Investigation of Natural Ecosystems in Korea, which have been accomplished under the guidance of Office of Environment, The average DGN of Pusan, Chungbuk, Chunbuk and Kyungnam were estimated as 3.32, 5.41, 4.48 and 4.95, respectively. The standing crop and productivity of Pusan were estimated as 1,438,290ton/㎢ and 331,810ton/㎢/year, and those of Chungbuk were 35,871,380ton/㎢ and 7,117,770ton/㎢/year, those of Kyungnam were 58,606,580ton/㎢ and 11,259,070ton/㎢/year. The flora of Chungbuk were consisted of 1,224 kinds which were arranged as 128 families, 535 genera, 1,149 species, 69 varieties, 13 forms and 1 subspecies, and that of Chunbuk were 1,273 kinds arranged as 131 families, 564 genera, 1,209 species, 60 varieties and 13 forms, that of Kyungnam including Pusan were, 1,774 kinds arranged as 139 families, 689 genera, 1,654 species, 91 varieties, 28 forms and 1 subspecies.
한국 고유식물의 종속지 (種屬誌) - 6. 말발도리속 (屬) 식물의 분류와 종간 유연관계 (類緣關係)

To clarify the species of genus Deutzia (Saxifragaceae, s. l.) in Korea, the taxonomic description was undertaken and interspecific relationships was discussed based on the external morphology with the light and scanning electron microscopes and the distributional pattern with specimens deposited in the herbaria. The presence or absence, number of rays, position and frequency of the stellate trichome, inflorescence and the morphology and venation pattern of petal were approved as the good characters to classify the Korean Deutzias. Although 17 kinds of Deutzia were reported in Korea hitherto, 9 kinds were excluded owing to the taxonomic treatment based on the comparative external morphology and the distributional uncertainty. Thus genus Deutzia in Korea could be rearranged as 2 sections, 3 subsections, 7 species and 1 variety. Among them, 4 species were considered as the endemic species in Korea.

To reexamine the taxonomic characters of Deutzia coreana, D. tozawae, and D. triradiata, which were belonged to Subsection Coreanae of genus Deutzia in Korea, the stellate trichome in the leaf, one of the major diagnostic characters, was investigated with the stereo and scanning electron microscopes. The number of trichome was nearly equal in both sides of the leaf, while the ray was mainly 4 and 5 in D. coreana. However, there was little trichomes in the upper surface of D. tozawae, and in the lower surface of D. triradiata. D. tozawae had 3,4-rayed trichomes in leaf surfaces, and D. triradiata 3-rayed ones, respectively. As a result, these three species were also distinguishable by the stellate trichomes in the leaf.

Most of the species in Polygonum sect. Tovara show complicated patterns of morphological variation, resulting in taxonomic confusion in delimiting species boundaries and determining relationships. In this study, patterns of morphological variation in Polygonum sect. Tovara are examined using numerical analyses, and the taxonomic significance of the taxa n the section in reevaluated. Principal components analyses of the five taxa in the section using major morphological characters revealed the presence of three distinct groups in the section; these correspond to P. virginianum, P. filiforme, and P. neofiliforme. The results also indicated that P. virginianum var. glaberrimum is not taxonomically distinct, and tovara (= polygonum) virginiana var. kachina should be treated as a variety of P. neofiliforme. Preliminary results from the leaf flavonoid analysis of P. virginianum var. virginianum, P. filiforme, and P. neofiliforme also showed significant differences in their flavonoid profiles, and these observations strongly suggest that they should be recognized as distinct species.

“Samgukyusa”, written by Ilyeon, is one of the oldest books presenting the history of the period of Three Kingdom in Korea. The plants described in this book are very important in Ethnobotanical aspects in Korea. So, the purpose of this study is to compile the list of the plants appeared in the book, and to examine the scientific names of them texonomically as well as the utilities of them ethnobotanically. As the result, 62 plant names were compiled in the list, among which 45 names were identified taxonomically and hence could be given proper scientific names. The plants were also found to be used for food, industry, garden and religion.
