N/A An intra-articular lumbar facet joint block with a local anesthetic and asteroid is a reliable method of diagnosis and therapy for low back pain and/or sciatica caused by lumbar facet arthropathy under fluoroscopy. We injected 40 mg of methylperdnisolone acetate and 1 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine into each lumbar facet joint to 14 patients. The results are as follows: 1) Excellent pain relief in 2 patients (14.29%) 2) Good pain relief in 6 patients (42.85%) 3) Fair pain relief in 4 patients (28.57%) 4) Non effective pain relief in 2 patients (14.29%)

We drew the stage-discharge relations of Byeokgye Stream, located in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, and analysed the correlation between items of water pollutants by measuring the flow rate and water pollutants thirty-four times from April 2010 to December 2010. The results showed that it tended to be low water season from April to June and from October and December, while tending to be water season from July to September. The average flow rate was 2.137 m3/sec: 0.464 m3/sec in low water season and 13.970 m3/sec in high water season. The stage-discharge curve thereon was . As to the correlations, the correlation between the water temperature and COD was 0.58, and the correlations of SS with BOD and COD were 0.46 and 0.40 respectively. The correlation between SS and T-P was 0.73, showing higher than other items.

Currently, water consumption for living is expected to increase every year because of rapid urbanization, industrialization and improvement of living standard. Accordingly, wastewater reuse system draws the attention for the efficient use of water resources, but new methods of construction are to be required because of the low efficiency and the economics of existing recycling methods of wastewater and sewage systems. Based on these circumstances, we suggested the new methods of construction of wastewater reuse system for the use of less than 1,000 ㎥/day are to be applied to the small building such like apartment and officetel, and analyzed its effects and economics. Results showed that the new method satisfies the water quality standards of waste water treatment system. In addition, the new method shows much smaller construction and operation costs than the existing method.

Background: It has been known that a patient head in sniffing position for lightwand facilitated tracheal intubation is not an anatomically appropriate method. However, there is no evidence nor study whether it is true or not. In this study, we compared success rates of lightwand facilitated tracheal intubation in neutral position versus sniffing position. Methods: With informed consent, sixty adult patients of ASA physical status Ⅰor II were randomly allocated into two groups: neutral position (N) or sniffing position (S) group. A lightwand and tube were bent at approximately a 90˚ degree angle for N group and a 60 degree angle for S group on the basis of mouth axis and pharyngeal axis. The time to intubation, success rates of 1st trial of intubation, overall intubation success rates, hemodynamic changes and complications during the procedure were recorded. Results: There was no significant difference in the time to intubation, success rates of 1st trial of intubation, overall intubation success rates, hemodynamic changes and complications between neutral position and sniffing position groups. Conclusions: Success rates of lightwand facilitated tracheal intubation in neutral position versus sniffing position showed no significant difference. Therefore, both positions are suitable for lightwand assisted intubation. (Korean J Anesthesiol 2006; 51: 308~11)

Since the introduction of epidural corticosteroid injectians for the management of sciat- ica1), lumbosacral radiculopathy has become one of the most common pain problems enco- untered by anesthesiolo#gists. In order to function effectively, anesthesiologists should be able to: recognize those syndromes which may respond to nerve block; understand the pathophysiology of the conditions being treated and R be familiar with alternate ther- apeutic pathways for patients not responding to merre block. There are many etiologic factors of low back pain and lumbosacral radiculopathy. Particularly, Nerve root compression caused by a protruding disc, a osteophyte or tumors are usually responsible for pain, Neural inflammation, therefore, is considered to play a major role in pain production. The use of local anesthetics in mixture with steroids is believed to break down neural inflammation. Steroids and local anesthetics were injected lumbar or caudal epidmal to 106 patients for the purpose of relieving low bck pain and lumbosacral radiculopathy. The results are as follows: Excellent pain relieved group: 27 patients(25.5%) Good pain relieved group: 49 patients(46.1%) Fair pain relieved group: 15 patients(14.2%) Not effective group: 15 patients(14. 2%)

Malignant hyperthermia still carries a high mortality despite of the increased understanding of the problem involved. A 33 year old relatively healthy male patient was admitted to this hospital via emergency room because of panperitonitis due to peptic ulcer perforation. We experienced acase of malignant hyperthermia which developed 20 minutes after induction of general anesthesia with thiopental sodium, succinyl choline chlovide, halohane, N_2O and O_2. The body temperature (esophageal) rose altupthy up to 41.2℃ and continued as a high fever for about 3 hours. The blood pressure and heart rate also increased and ventricular dysrrhythmia appeared. The etiology, triggering factors, clinical features, diagnosis treatment and rafe anesthesia of malignant hyperthermia are discussed.
