In this study, the molten metal protective performance of various molten metal protective clothing materials such as HBT(Herringbon twill) laminated aluminium foils, oxydized-polyacrylonitrile laminated with aluminium deposited PET films, twill fabric laminated with aluminium deposited PET films and nonwoven laminated with aluminum deposited PET films, were evaluated according to EN ISO 9185 and ASTM F 955. The results showed that the molten metal protective performance of tested samples improved with the increase in fabric structure density, weight and thickness. In addition the effect of the thickness of aluminum foil on the molten metal protective performance is not significant. It was found the fabric is more important in the molten metal splash protective clothing.

The aim of this study was to investigate the cause of afterflame of fire hood, which was knitted with heat resistant aramid. Flame retardant property of aramid fiber would be lost during processing, so softener containing flame retardant should be used. Knitted fabric showed a tendency to decrease afterflame performance by increasing after washing. The softened fire-retardant fire hood a water repellent level 2, and the mini knitting machine showed a level 1, since it didn’t go through the post-treatment process. The oxygen limited index(LOI) of aramids were different with testing organism. Therefore, it’s believed that flame retardant treatment is essential for post processing of aramid knitted fabric.
소방관용 화학 보호복(재사용 및 제한용)의 성능비교에 관한 연구

The aim of this study was to compared the flame-retardant performance and thermal protection performance(TPP) for limited use and reusable chemical protective clothing(CPC). Lightweight flame-retardant CPC for industrial fields is composed of multi-layered thermoplastic polymer coating layers and aramid nonwoven fabric without a multi-layer barrier film. Therefore it’s very lightweight and better thickness than the woven fabric, but the tensile strength and thermal protection performance are very limited. It is expected that the composition of flame-retardant polymer coating, flame-retardant fabric and multilayer barrier film is more preferable than the fabric coated with flame-retardant polymer coating on aramid nonwoven fabric as firefighting CPC for heat protection performance. The current CPC for firefighting has a high weight of about 10 kg, which increased to the fatigue of firefighters.
Pretreatment of Sugar Cane Molasses for Improved Carotenoid Production

The influence of metal-chelating agents on carotenoid production from sugar cane molasses by Rhodotorula glutinis was studied. Potassium ferrocyanide pre-treated molasses caused an increase in the final carotenoid production of about 38% with respect to control culture. When EDTA was added as possible as early stage of cultivation under the condition without any pretreatment of molasses, it had stimulatory effect on the production of carotenoid, whereas, the addition of ferroncyanide in the cultivation resulted in the inhibition of cell growth significantly, followed the depression of carotenoid production. Optimum concentration of EDTA was 0.05% for the maximum production of carotenoid, molasses medium broth contained a number of cations which could be reduced by PFC pretreatment techniques.
국내·외 화학 보호복 및 특수 방화복 소재 적용에 관한 연구

In this study, turnout gear and chemical protective clothing are intended to protect the wearer from various hazards and poor environmental conditions that may cause harm or death. There are various fabric of protective clothing, the potential of Polyimide(PI) performance fabric relevant to personal protective clothing for firefighters. The PI turnout gear showed performance comparable to that the PBI turnout gear. It is judged that the current and future materials for turnout gear for firefighters are insufficient at internal and external, and further materials should be developed. The government needs a lot of research because protective clothing is needed for about 55,000 firefighters in Korea. There is an urgent need to upgrade personal protective equipment for firefighters. It was found that PI fabric can be applied in terms of physical properties such as flame/heat resistance of turnout gear and chemical protective clothing.
울산사고현장의 소방용 특수방화복의 요구사항 및 향후 개선방안에 대한 연구

지난 2021년 울산화재(화재진압 중 20대 소방관(노명래 소방사) 및 2022년 평택 냉동창고화재(소방관 3명)로 부터 순직하는 사고로 인하여 소방청 등 및 국민들도 많은 충격을 주었다. 당시 5명의 소방관이 3층 미용실내부로 투입되었지만 가연성물질인 다량의 스프레이가 폭발하므로 인하여 전실화재(Flashover)를 일어나서 1층에 에어메트도 있어지만 너무 강력한 화염에 맞섰우 없었기 때문에 5명 소방관의 등쪽에 2도 및 3도 화상을 입은 것으로 판단된다. 특히, 문헌상 Flashover는 최소 500℃부터 시작하여 최대 1100℃까지 이르며 발화기, 성장기(Pre-flashover), 최성기 및 감쇠기에 단계별 나아간다. 이 상황에서는 산소는 완전 고갈상태이며 일산화탄소는 10% ~ 20% 및 이산화탄소는 20% 이상을 모니터링되고 있다. Flashover상태에서는 모든 소방관은 사망상태로 보는 경향이 많다. 특히, 소방관의 제 2의 피부인 특수 방화복(Turnout gear)은 소방관의 개인보호장구류중 가장 많은 부피를 차지하고 있다. 최근에 친환경 전기차가 많이 보급되고 있으며 수소차 및 관련 시설들에 대한 연구가 활발히 수행중이다. 수소가스는 화학가스중에 공기보다 가볍워 쉽게 휘발되는 특성이 있으나 폭발충격이 매우 크다고 볼 수 있다. 2019. 6. 10 노르웨이의 오슬로인근에 샌드비카의 수소충전소에서 폭발사고가 일어났으며 폭발의 충격으로 충전소 주변에 세워진 차량들의 유리창이 깨지고 에어백이 터져 2명 이상이 부상되는 피해 발생되었다. 앞으로 많이 발생될 수 있는 대형화재에 대응하기 위한 1차 대응자(First responder)인 소방관 위한 현재와 미래의 보호복에 관한 연구를 하고자하며 특히 열적인 성능위주로서 현용 방화복과 해외 방화복의 2도 및 3도 화상정도를 비교하므로 써 극한 화염인, 전실화재에 대응 가능한 수준 정도를 파악하고자 한다
국·내외 화학물질 방호용 장화에 대한 화학투과저항성 비교

The resistance of chemical permeation of various internal/external chemical protective boots was assessed and compared in accordance with ASTM F 739 and EN 374. Moreover, the hardness of chemical protective boots was investigated before and after chemical permeation test. The results showed that the sample #1 exhibited the highest chemical permeation resistance among the tested boots, but the domestic product, showed the lowest resistance. A nonlinear relationship between the thickness and breakthrough time of chemical protective boots was found. The sample #5 showed the highest increase in hardness after chemical permeation testing. In addition, the hardness of all boots increased a little after chemical permeation test.
