South Korea has recently witnessed an increasing number of seismic events, leading to a surge instudies focusing on seismic earth pressures, as well as the attributes of geological layers and groundwhere foundations are established. Consequently, earthquake-resistant design has become imperativeto ensure the safety of subterranean structures. The slurry wall method, due to its superior wallrigidity, excellent water resistance, and minimal noise and vibration, is often employed in constructinghigh-rise buildings in urban areas. However, given the separation between panels that constitute thewall, slurry walls possess limited resistance to seismic loads in the longitudinal direction. As a solution, several studies have probed into the possibility of interconnecting slurry wall panels to augment theirseismic performance. In this research, we developed and evaluated a method for linking slurry wallpanels using mechanical joints, including concrete-confined steel pipes and headed bars, throughmock-up tests. We also assessed the constructability of the suggested method and compared it withother analogous methods. Any challenges identified during the mock-up test were discussed to guidefuture research in resolving them. The results of this study aid in enhancing the seismic performanceof slurry walls through the development of an interconnected panel method. Further research canbuild on these findings to address the identified issues and improve the efficacy and reliability of theproposed method.

This study entailed an investigation of a tensile stress measurement method for prestressed concrete (PSC) tendons by utilizing external magnetization. The target of this study are PS structures that have been constructed and in use. An optimal external magnetization based elasto-magnetic (EM) sensor was designed using finite element analysis considering various factors, such as coil arrangement and size, that could influence the PS tendons inside the PSC girder. The residual tensile stress resulting from the external magnetization of the girder was then determined. Further, theoretical verification was performed using the numerical and material data used in the finite element analysis for sensor design. The calculated values of strength of magnetization at the target location were matched with the finite element analysis results. Thus, the designed sensor and the feasibility of magnetizing the tendons inside the PSC I-girder using an EM sensor were validated.

This study introduces the development of a precast concrete double-wall, applicable to basement construction in apartment buildings. Unlike traditional precast concrete double walls, the developed double-wall doesn't require specialized manufacturing equipment such as a lathe. The constructability of these advanced technologies was validated through a full-scale mock-up test using the precast concrete double wall. The test specimens were constructed to represent a structural wall with a thickness of 250mm. It was observed that the quality of the in-situ concrete, filled between two single panels of 110mm thickness each, was excellent. The construction efficiency of the developed double-wall system for basement construction in an apartment building was also examined. Expert interviews about installation times of precast concrete elements were conducted to evaluate the speed of the basement floor's installation. The results showed that installation of precast concrete elements, including the proposed double walls, could be completed within 20 to 29 days for a basement in an apartment building. This indicates a three-fold increase in construction efficiency compared to traditional methods relying on in-situ casting.
