The improvements of the thin plate joint method are required because of the application of thin plate structures are diversified. The purpose of the investigation is to evaluate the applicability of the structural adhesive on the thin plate structures. This study is performed to evaluate how the jointing effects with oil are improved, compare with that of spot welding specimens after the tensile shear test under the various conditions of the specimen, which had the single lap joints by bonding and weldbonding for the structural jointing techniques.

Micro structure observation for low carbon steel base material and heat treatment(annealing),performing a tensile test and impact test, the specimen after the impact test is intended to evaluate thecrack propagation characteristics by performing a fractal dimension analysis. The tensile strength of thebase materials were observed higher compared to the heat treated materials, impact absorbed energy ofheat treated materials was a higher than base materials. Impact Test and fractal dimension of the sideof the test specimen was shown significantly more test temperature increases, heat treated material washigher than the base material.

In the present investigation the corrosion behavior and resistance for Al6061, SiCp/Al and SiCw/Al composites are evaluated under pH 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 in distilled water environment. The electrochemical polarization thchnique was employed in the investigation. Through the investigation the following results are estimated pitting corrosion under pH 3, 5, 7, 9 and uniform corrosion under pH 11. The corrosion rate were the worst in the pH 3 environment, pH 11, 9, 7 and 5 in order. And the corrocion resistance of SiCw/Al and SiCp/ Al have increased than Al6061 matrix.

In this study, the effect of downward inclined interface about interfacial crack of bimaterials are discussed. The fracture parameter are analyzed by finite element method of the ANSYS. The energy release rates, displacement jump and stress distribution were analyzed as the gradient variation of inclined interfaces. As a results, in case of positive shear displacement was applied, the energy release rates not varied with gradient of inclined interface increasing. However in case of negative shear displacement was applied, the energy release rates decreased with gradient of inclined interface increasing. Due to the inclined interface contact, the shielding effect relatively increased as the gradient of inclined interface was increased.

Near-threshold fatigue crack growth characteristics was investigated on the Ni-Cr-Mo-V low alloy steel, which has the different microstructure obtained by tempering at various temperature. The specimens were austenized at 950℃ and then followed by tempering at 200℃, 530℃ and 600℃. Strain rate was obtained from strain gauge attached on the crack tip and crack opening point was observed through load-strain curve. Threshold stress intensity range(ΔK_(th)) was increased with increasing tempering tempuerature, but the effective threshold stress intensity rage(ΔK_(eff.th)) was not affected with the increasing temperature. Grain size increased with increasing tempering temperature.

For the stress analysis in bi-materials, there have been used many theoretical and experimental methods. The experimental methods such as Morie, Photoelasticity, holography and caustics are primarily used by many researchers. In this paper, as the first step to develop the experimental method of caustics in bi-materials, the initial and caustic curve equations are established by introducing the existing stress component equations to the equation of the formation of Caustics and made the program for the generation of caustics in computer.

When the structures are exposed to their own an application for a long period, a number of variables such as strength properties and corrosion resistance, so on are expected to change. In the present investigation the corrosion behavior and resistance for the original and degraded materials of Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel were evaluated under the conditions of pH 3, 6, 9 and 12 in a distilled water environment. The electrochemical polarization technique was employed in this investigation. Based upon the experimental results obtained, the following conclusions were drawn. A severe and uniform corrosion was observed for both original and degraded materials under the condition of pH 3. At pH 6 and pH 9, these materials showed the degradation by a pitting corrosion. The materials under pH 12 environment were degraded by a uniform corrosion. The corrosion rate per year were the highest in the pH 3 environment, followed by pH 12, pH 6 and pH 9 environment in order. The corrosion resistance was decreased from the original material, slow cooled material (10.deg. C/hr) and step cooled material in order.

The research trends for metal matrix composites have been on basic mechanical properties, fatigue behavior after aging and fractographic observations. In this study, the fatigue crack initiation as well as the fatigue crack growth behavior and the fracture mechanism were investigated through observations of the fracture surface on silicon carbide particles reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites(SiCp/Al). Based on the fractographic study done by scanning electron microscope and replica, crack growth path model and fracture mechanism are presented. The mechanical properties, such as the tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of SiCp/Al composites are improved in a longitudinal direction, however, the fatigue life is shorter than the basic Al6061 alloys. From fractographic observations, it is found that the failure mode is ductile in basic Ai6061 alloys. And because some SiC particles were pulled out from the matrix and a few SiC particles could be seen on the fracture surface of SiCp/Al, crack growth paths are believed to follow the interface of the matrix and its particles.

In order to develop the evaluation methods of degradation for the Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel, which is in use for turbine rotor in nuclear power plant, the degraded materials were prepared by simulated degradation methods. The result of impact test and fatigue crack growth test shows that the FATT(Fracture Appearance Transition Temperature) and fatigue crack growth rate increased with the increase of degradation. And the result of new electrochemical polarization test method was suggested for the evaluating FATT, fatigue crack growth exponent and coefficient C values based on the results of relationship between corrosion current density(Icorr) & FATT, and the m & C and Icorr.
