In this paper, we propose an automatic LED module location setup algorithm for a large-scale LED screen. The proposed method is an upgrade version of previous method, and can resolve many problems, specially the long setup time on a complicated and highly dense LED screen by reducing redundant calculations efficiently. So, it generates the module location setup results rapidly and uniformly for various LED screens. Experiment result with screens consisting of various number of LED modules and shaping differently shows the proposed method can produce not only considerably reduced but also low variant setup time even if test LED screens are highly complicated and dense. For example, in the case of super large-size LED screens, the module location setup time decreases up to 99% or more than before.

We propose a module address mapping scheme and its architecture to automatically get the module position in a large-size LED screen. In contrast to previous methods considering the cabling order to generate the module address, the proposed method doesnt require such a complex process due to the MAC address utilization as an unique module ID. Next, spatially adjacent modules exchange MAC addresses mutually, and this is based on the automatic module position setup program operated by the LED screen controller. Furthermore, it is expected that IEEE 1149.1 standard protocols and architecture used to save, control and transmit adjacent module information can reduce the time and implementation costs noticeably.
