All passenger vehicles are treated with damping materials like viscoelastic asphalts to reduce structure borne noise which has bad effects on the drivers and the passengers for driving comfort. The effectiveness of clamping treatments depends on design parameters such as properties and attaching locations of damping materials. The paper focuses on deciding locations and size of damping treatments for simple plate specimen by strain energy analysis on the vibrating plate. This approach shows the method of efficient and reliable damping treatments for structure borne noise reduction and can be applied to the complex panels such as vehicle panel assemblies.

This study proposes a technique for measuring the thermal conductivity of powdered metal hydride. The proposed technique was verified through numerical simulation and uncertainty analysis, and its applicability was evaluated by implementing it as an actual apparatus. In order to overcome the problems such as requiring a large amount of sample and long measuring time of the Guarded Hot Plate method, the scale of the device was drastically reduced, and feedback control was applied in this study. In addition, it contributed to increasing the repeatability of measurement by adopting a case that can accurately contain powder samples in the repeated measurements. As a result, it got to be possible to precisely measure the effective thermal conductivity of metal hydrides using the proposed technique.

In this study the dynamic characteristic of a composite beam is analyzed. It is composed of SPCC metal beam and visco-elastic pad (asphalt). The well-known Oberst beam test is carried out to get the material properties of the visco-elastic material. The RKU equation is applied to the measured data from the Oberst beam test to get the equivalent properties of the composite beam, and the results are used to analyze the equivalent beam model. The frequency dependent elastic or shear modulus and the corresponding loss factor of a visco-elastic material are considered in numerical analysis. The results of the analysis are compared with the experimental analysis. The results of both analyses show so good agreement with each other that the method of numerical analysis for the highly non-linear material structure is proposed for the similar system.

This paper focuses on the modelling of common rail diesel injector using the AMESim code and shows the appropriateness of the developed model. For the developed injector model, simulations are carried out to analyze the behavior characteristics of the injector for the variations of injector model parameters such as orifice diameters, rail pressures, and energizing times. Simulation results show that the diameters of inlet and outlet orifices have close relation with injection quantity. Increment of rail pressure and energizing time provides increment of injection quantity, and simulated energizing time map shows injection characteristics of the common rail injector.
