        The purpose of this study is to give an account of the effects of the Korean herbal medicine therapy which is based on the Sasang constitutional medicine for the patient who has suffered from scale of both foot caused by chronic psoriasis. The subject is a 81-year old man who has the symptoms caused by lacunar infarction, which are both leg weakness, gait disturbance, dizziness, dysarthria, frequency voiding, and scale of both foot caused by chronic psoriasis. We have diagnosed him as Shaoyangin(少陽人), and have prescribed Yukmi jiwhangtang(六味地黃湯). The consequence is the accompanied scale of both foot, both leg weakness, gait disturbance, dizziness, frequency voiding and general condition has improved.

        관절내 유리체로 인한 관절장애 치험 1례

        1. Objectives In general, arthropathy is treated with conservative method or only observed. Recently, I have effectively treated one patient with chronic arthropathy caused by loose body using constitutional method. So, I would like to report about this case. 2. Methods Consulting her Sungjeong(性情), Chehyungkisang(體形氣像) and QSCC II, I diagnosed her as Taeumin and treated her with Taeumjowi-tang(太陰調胃湯) plus jejo etc. 3. Results After treatment she felt her symtoms-pain, edema, stiffness of joint improved. 4. Conclusions This paper describes the process of management and changes of symptoms. I hope this paper useful to rehabilitatable treatment for arthropathy through Sasang Constitutional Medicine.

        성장 온도가 Rhodococcus sp. Strain DK17의 Megaplasmid 안정성에 미치는 영향

        Rhodococcus sp. strain DK17 possesses three megaplasmids (380 kb pDK1, 330 kb pDK2, and 750 kb pDK3). The alkylbenzene-degrading genes (akbABCDEF) are present on pDK2 while the phthalate operons which are duplicated are present on both pDK2 (ophA'B'C'R') and pDK3 (ophABCR). DK17 with an optimal temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ showed no growth at $37^{\circ}C$. When transferred to $30^{\circ}C$, however, the $37^{\circ}C$ culture began to grow immediately, indicating that $37^{\circ}C$ is not lethal but stressful for DK17 growth. In addition, when exposed to $37^{\circ}C$ even for a short time, a part of DK17 cells lost the ability to degrade o-xylene (a model compound of alkylbenzenes). When two hundred colonies were randomly selected for colony PCR for pDK2-specific akbC, ophC', or pDK3-specific ophC, a total of 29 colonies were found to have lost at least one of the three genes. PFGE analysis clearly showed that all the mutants have different megaplasmid profiles from that of DK17 wild type, which are divided into five different cases: Type I (10 mutants, pDK2 loss and acquisition of a new ~700 kb plasmid), Type II (9 mutants, pDK2 loss), Type III (8 mutants, pDK3 loss and acquisition of a new ~400 kb plasmid), Type IV (1 mutant, pDK3 loss), and Type V (1 mutant, pDK2 and pDK3 loss and acquisition of the ~400 kb and ~700 kb plasmids). The above results showing that growth temperature changes can induce physical changes in bacterial genomes suggest that environmental changes in habitats including temperature fluctuations affect significantly the evolution of bacteria. Rhodococcus sp. strain DK17은 3개의 linear catabolic megaplasmid (380 kb pDK1, 330 kb pDK2, 750 kb pDK3)를 보유하고 있다. Alkylbenzene 분해 유전자군(akbABCDEF)은 pDK2에만 위치하는 반면 phthalate 분해 유전자군의 경우에는 거의 동일한 copy가 pDK2 (ophA'B'C'R')와 pDK3 (ophABCR)에 각각 위치한다. DK17은 최적 성장온도인 $30^{\circ}C$에서 $37^{\circ}C$로 배양온도를 상승시키면 성장이 멈추지만 $30^{\circ}C$로 환원 즉시 다시 성장을 시작하였다. 이는 $37^{\circ}C$라는 온도 조건이 DK17에게 치명적이지는 않지만 스트레스로 작용함을 암시하는 것이다. 또한 $37^{\circ}C$에서 열충격을 받은 일부 세포는 o-xylene (alkylbenzene의 모델 화합물)을 분해 능력을 상실하였다. 열충격 후 200개의 집락을 무작위로 선택하여 pDK2- 또는 pDK3-specific 프라이머를 이용한 PCR과 pulsed-field gel electrophoresis를 통해 megaplasmid의 변화 양상을 비교 분석한 결과, 29개 돌연변이체에서 야생형의 것과 다른 5가지 megaplasmid 유형[pDK2 소실과 함께 새로운 약 700 kb megaplasmid 출현(10개), pDK2만 소실(9개), pDK3 소실과 함께 새로운 약 400 kb megaplasmid 출현(8개), pDK3만 소실(1개), 그리고 pDK2와 pDK3 소실과 함께 각각 약 400 kb와 700 kb 크기의 새로운 megaplasmid 출현(1개)]이 관찰되었다. 이상의 연구 결과는 성장 온도 변화가 세균 유전체의 물리적 변화를 직접 유도할 수 있음을 입증하는 것으로 온도 변화를 비롯한 서식지 환경 변화가 세균 진화에 상당한 영향력을 미칠 수 있음을 보여준다.

        치과용 석고계 매몰재의 특성에 관한 연구

        The properties of a investment material can be described by the consistency at the slurry state, the setting time, the compressive strength and the thermal expansion during the casting. In this study the effect of the production parameters which are included the ratio of quartz and cristobalite, the content of binder, the water powder ratio and the content and concentration of additives on the properties of the gypsum-bonded investments has been investigated with help of the consistency test, the vicat needle test, the compressive strength test, the thermal expansion test, x-ray diffraction and DTA thermal differential test. The experimental results showed that the constitution of a investment with W/P ratio of 0.34, 30% of gypsum, 0.8% aluminium sulfate, 2% magnesium sulfate, 0.6% sodium phosphate was adapted for the properties of the KDA Spec. No. 13 type I investment. The important experimental results are summarized as follows. 1. The consistency of the investment decreased with increasing amount of aluminium sulfate and decreasing amount of sodium phosphate. An addition of magnesium sulfate up to 2% an increase of the consistency was shown. But 3% magnesium sulfate in investment showed a decrease of consistency. The consistency did not vary significantly with a variation of the content of gypsum and cristobalite and the W/P ratio. 2. Aluminium sulfata and the magnesium sulfate promoted the hardening and the aluminium phoshpate delayed the hardening. The setting time increased with amount of gypsum. The effect of the matrix on the setting time was insignificant. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the setting time was 14 min. 3. The compressive strength decreased with the amount of aluminium sulfate up to 0.25% and increased with the amount of aluminium sulfate greater than 3%. The compressive strength decreased as decreasing the amount of magnesium sulfate and gypsum and as increasing the W/P ratio. The effect fo the refractory on the compressive strength was also not significant. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the compressive strength was $34Kg/mm^2$. 4. The 1st thermal expansion was found at the temperature near $250^{\circ}C$ and the steady state or the contraction stage was found at the temperature between $250^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$. After this stage the 2nd thermal expansion took place at the temperature near $500^{\circ}C$. The amount of thermal expansion increased with decreasing the content of magnesium sulfate, aluminium sulfate and gypsum and the W/P ratio. And the amount of thermal expansion increased as the content of sodium phosphate ad cristobalite. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the amount of total expansion was 1.2%.

        도재(陶材)와 도재(陶材) 소부용(燒付用) Ni-Cr계(系) 합금간(合金間)의 결합력(結合力)에 관(關)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究)

        The effects of the opaque porcelain firing temperature, the bonding agent and the degassing prior to the opaque firing On the bond strength were investigated by means of the tensile shear stIe$. The diffusional behaviours at the interface of the porcelain and the alloy, and .the microstructures of the ceramic and metal composite were studied for understanding the bonding mechanism. The results obtained in this experiment were summarizd as follow; 1. With no application of bonding agent, the tensile shear strength of the specimen firing at $1840^{\circ}F$ was higher than that of the specimen firing at $1760^{\circ}F$. 2. The highest bond strength was obtained by application of bonding agent without degassing prior to the opaque firing. 3. Application of bonding agent after the degassing showed the lowest bond strength. 4. The greater number of pores were observed at the firing temperature of $1840^{\circ}F$ than that of $1760^{\circ}F$ in the porcelain and the interface respectively.

        A clinical case study of a shaoyangin patient diagnosed as congestive heart failure Congestive heart failure is dysfunction of heart that can't supply sufficient mount of blood required of tissue metabolism as a result of myocardial hyposystole. We treated 80 year-old female congestive heart failure patient with edema, dyspnea, chest discomfort, and dysuria. We have diagnosed her as shaoyangin(少陽人) pyohan(表寒) disease, infirmity, edema and have prescribed hyungbangjihwangtang(荊防地黃湯). In the result we had the improvement of the symptoms of CHF and general depressed condition. This report described the process and contents about the way the patient was cured.

        탁리소독음(托裏消毒飮)의 항(抗)알레르기 효과(效果)에 관(關)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究)

        This Experimental study was done to investigate the effect of the Taklisodok-um on the Anti-allergic response. The results were obtained as follows: 1. On vascular permeability response to the intradermal injected Histamine, the Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant decrease than control group. 2. On vascular permeability response to the intradermal injected Serotonin, the Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant decrease than control group. 3. In the 48hrs homologous passive cutaneous anaphylaxis provoked by the IgE-like antibody against white egg albumin, there was no significant difference between the Taklisodok-um treated group and control group. 4. The Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant inhibitory effect than control group in the delayed type hypersensitivity response to Picryl chloride. 5. The Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant inhibitory effect than control group in the delayed type hypersensitivity response to SRBC. According to the above-stated results, it is considered that the Taklisodok-um could be applied widely to the type I and IV allergic diseases.
