A Numerical Method of Correcting Slit Width Effect in Small Angle Scattering Data

슬릿의 유한한 폭에 의한 미소가 X선 산란 데이타의 각퍼짐 효과의 시준 보정방법이 개발되었다. 새 시준 보정 작업을 위한 FORTRAN프로그램 SWNL이 작성되었다. 이 방법의 장점은 실험 산란 곡선에 대하여 미분이 필요하지 않으며, 보정된 곡선의 미소 산란각 부분의 정확도가 타 방법에 의한 보정치와 비교할 때 우수하며, 통계학적 무작위 오차에 대하여 비교적 민감하지 않다는 점이다. A numerical fitting method has been developed for introducing a collimation correction for the slit width in small angle x-ray scattering. FORTRAN program SWNL of the new collimation correction procedure was presented. The advantages of the method are that it does not require the differentiation of the experimental curve, that the corrected curve remains well defined at small values of the scattering angle, and that it is insensitive to the statistical random errors.
27Al Pulsed Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Measurements of the Electronic Structure of LuAl2

The electronic structure of a rare earth - aluminum intermetallic compound LuAl2 is investigated by using magnetic susceptibility and 27Al pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements. The magnetic susceptibility is weakly temperature-dependent, which indicates a Pauli susceptibility for non-magnetic metals. 27Al NMR spectra show a typical powder pattern for a nuclear spin of 5/2 with broadening due to the second-order nuclear quadrupole interaction. The Knight shift due to the hyperne eld at the aluminum nuclear site is +0.04%, and the nuclear quadrupole frequency is 0.45 MHz. Both are independent of temperature. The spin-lattice relaxation rate, 1=T1, is proportional to temperature as for most non-magnetic metals. Thus, the Korringa product is measured to be T1T 27 sec K.

Gas중 증발법 (Gas-evaporation technique)으로 여러가지 크기의 WO₃ microcrystal을 생성하였다. TEM으로 생성된 microcrystal의 크기를 결정하였다. 상온에서 이들 microcrystal의 라만스펙트럼을 분석한 결과, Air에 의한 평균 입자크기가 3000∼4000Å의 microcrystal들은 bulk의 상온상(phase Ⅴ)만이 존재하였으며, Ar에 의한 평균 입자크기가 500Å 가량의 microcrystal에서는 저온상(phase Ⅶ)과 상온상이 공존함을 알 수 있었다. We prepared WO₃microcrystals(??-WO₃)of different sizes by gas-evaporation technique. The average particle size of these microcrystals was determined from transmission electron micro-graphs(TEM). From the room temperature Raman scattering measurements we found that the microcrystals with the particle size of 3000∼4000Å are in the room temperature phase of the bulk WO₃(Phase Ⅴ). And the microcrystals with the particle size of 500Å are in mixed phases, phase Ⅴ and phase Ⅶ(ferroelectric phase, below -40℃) of the bulk WO₃.

An improved technique is developed for correcting experimental small angle X-ray or neutron scattering data for the effects of slit length smearing. By the use of slit function (Fedorov. Kristallografiya 13,736), collimation correction for many practical collimation systems become possible. A new procedure to calculate slit functions for given weighting function is proposed. And slit functions for several types of weighting functions found in practical collimation systems are calculated m either analytic or numerical form.
