This study aimed to investigate the effects of mechanical factors such as agitation speed and air rate in fly ash flotation. Specifically, we used thermal power plant fly ash with unburned carbon content of 3.4 to 3.7%. The effect of pH, agitation speed, collector dosage, and frother dosage - the key factors of froth flotation - showed unburned carbon recovery and unburned carbon content of 63% and 34%, respectively, when the dosage of safflower oil used as collector was 800 g/ton, pH was 7, agitation speed was 1,200 rpm, and frother dosage was 400 g/ton. The SEM/EDS analysis of fly ash in that case indicated that the spherical fly ash particles lowered the unburned carbon content as they floated with the air bubbles without being dissolved in the unburned carbon or settled in the ore solution. The other experiment of changing the mechanical factors such as agitation speed and air rate resulted in unburned carbon recovery and unburned carbon content of 74% and 67%, respectively, at air rate of 8 L/min and agitation speed of 900 rpm. The recovery and unburned carbon content increased as the low agitation speed and additional air injection decreased the strength of the eddy current in the ore solution and consequently prevented the floating of fine fly ash particles with unburned carbon. In addition, the recovery rate and unburned carbon increased further to 80% and 70%, respectively, showing the best performance when the agitation speed and air rate were lowered to 800 rpm and 6 L/min, respectively.

This study aims to investigate the characteristics on bottom ash flotation using vegetable oils as a collector. The experiment of changing the kerosene dosage as a collector for the flotation of coal ashes, the recovery of unburned carbon and unburned carbon content were 80% and 63%, respectively, when the dosage of kerosene was 9 kg/ton. The experiment of using soybean oil as a collector to improve flotation efficiency, the recovery of unburned carbon and unburned carbon content increased to 95% and 68%, respectively, when the dosage of soybean oil was 9 kg/ton. The recovery of unburned carbon and unburned carbon content were 99% and 78%, respectively, when safflower oil containing more poly unsaturated fats with double bonds than soybean oil was 9 kg/ton. The calorific value of the unburned carbon was 5,803 cal/g, confirming that it was possible to be used as a fuel for thermal power plants. Lastly, using vegetable oil as a collector it showed higher recovery of unburned carbon and higher unburned carbon than kerosene, which was mineral oil. Moreover, oil containing a large amount of poly unsaturated fat with two or more double bonds was found to have higher unburned carbon than other vegetable oils; thus showing excellent adsorbability for unburned carbon.

The objective of this study was to research the mineralogical characteristics and removal of heavy metals of tailings from Gum-poong mine. From the result of mineralogical analysis, there are several sulphide minerals such as chalcocite, aresenopyrite, pyrite, sphalerite and galena. Cd and Zn have a good positive correlation from the statistical relation between Cd and other heavy metals(Cu, Pb, Zn). Residual heavy metals(As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn) from the Gum-poong tailings were removed under the warning criteria from the result of froth flotation with K.A.X.(Potassium Amyl Xanthate) and Aerofloat 211.

Froth flotation was performed to study the effect of phosphate addition in the experiment to remove As from tailing of Sang-dong Mine. The experiment without Trisodium phosphate (T.S.P) showed that the removal rate of As was 88.7% and weight-ratio of floating material was 2.52%. By contrast, the experiment with T.S.P showed that the removal rate of As was 92.74% and weight-ratio of floating material was 2.26%. In flotation without T.S.P, the average particle size of float material was 19.34 um and the amount less than 10um was 40.2%. On the other hand, in flotation with T.S.P the average particle size of float material was 176.8 um and the amount less than 10um was 6.5%. The result of X.R.F analysis presented that contents of $SiO_2$ was 42.74% in float material of the experiment without T.S.P. In contrast, contents of $SiO_2$ was 29.56% in float material of the experiment with T.S.P.
Separation of Recycled Aggregates from Waste Concrete by Heavy Medium Separation

The recycled aggregates produced from waste concrete by crushing and granularity adjusting processes only can't be used for structural aggregates because they display low density and high abrasion rate by including lots of mortar and cement paste. However, the recycled aggregates include a lot of aggregates for concrete. Using the heavy medium separation method that is one of the specific gravity separation methods, about 45% of the waste concrete could be converted to the recycled aggregates.

Froth flotation was performed to remove As from the tailing of Sangdong Mine. When the tailings of Sangdong Mine were analyzed by the Standard Method for the Soil Environment Conservation, the concentration of As was found to be at a serious level (282 mg/kg), exceeding countermeasure standard (75 mg/kg). Froth flotation was performed to remove As and preliminary tests were performed to select the reagents. Specifically, froth flotation was performed using collector and frother, KAX and DF250 respectively. An experiment based on pH changes found that the removal rate was highest at pH6. The removal rate of As was highest at agitating rate 1500 according to the agitating rate. In the experiment based on the quantities of KAX added, the removal rate of As was found to be highest at 300 g/ton and was reduced at higher levels than 300 g/ton. An experiment based on pulp density found that the removal rate was highest at pulp density 30%. It was possible to adjust the As level -- which exceeded countermeasure standard (75 mg/kg) -- to 22.5mg/kg to satisfy the Warning standard (25 mg/kg), from the results of froth flotation.
