        Development of BANG-3® Polymer Gel Dosimetry System in Small Radiosurgical Fields

        In this study we focused on relative output factor, radiation field profile and three-dimensional dose distribution measurements of small radiosurgical fields using BANG-3®polymer gel. Polymer gel phantom was irradiated by 5 and 30 mm radiosugical beam size with 6 MV radiosurgery beam. MR scan was performed under the condition of same slice thickness and different resolutions. Output factor measurements with the PinPoint ion chamber, diode and EBT are compared with BANG-3® polymer gel. We used a spherical phantom filled with BANG-3® polymer gel to measure 3D dose distributions. The irradiated phantom was scanned with an MRI scanner. Relative otput factor and dose distribution were obtained by calibrating the polymer gel and the spin-spin relaxation rate of the magnetic resistance signal. Results showed that polymer gel output factor agreeds with diode as a reference 30 mm beam size. The gel dosimetry was useful tool available for overcome tissue-equivalence, beam perturbation implications, volume averaging and positioning uncertainties in small radiosurgical dosimetry. In three-dimensional dose distribution, the MRI artifacts cause a geometrical distortion of less than 2 mm and less than 10% change in the distribution. The gel dosimetry has the potential to qualitatively characterize the relative output factor, beam profile and the dose distributions.

      • Nitric oxide-releasing polymer integrated ointment for cutaneous wound healing

        With considerable efforts of many researchers on the role of nitric oxide (NO) in biological system, it has been well known fact that nitric oxide has a diversity of functions including cardiovascular homeostasis, wound healing, antibacterial activity and anticancer effect. These versatile functions of NO mainly depend on its concentration and duration. For example, cardiovascular homeostasis and wound healing could be worked when NO releases at low concentration for long time. Meanwhile release of NO with high concentration and short time causes antibacterial activity and anticancer effect. Therefore development of a rational NO delivery system which suited each function has been one of the significant issues in biological applications. Here in, we describe PEG based ointment containing NO-releasing polymer to get wound healing effect due to the sustainable release of NO from the prepared ointment. NO-releasing polymer is composed of thermosensitive Pluronic F127 having good biocompatibility and branched polyethylenimine (BPEI) housed N-diazeniumdiolates (NONOates) which could store and release NO under appropriate physiological condition. PEG-based ointment plays a role as a storage of NO-releasing polymer and moisturizer to help enhance wound healing effect.

        정위적 방사선 수술에서 물팬텀을 이용한 목표점 및 전달 선량확인

        정위적 방사선수술 (Stereotactic radiosurgery) 은 병소(region)의 위치를 정확히 결정하고 치료에 요구되는 방사선량이 정확히 전달되는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구는 이를 실험적으로 확인할 목적으로 특별히 고안된 물팬텀 (water phantom)을 개발하여 Leksell 정위기구 (Leksell Stereotactic Frame; LSF)에 부착하여 방사선수술을 시행하였다. 방사선 수술에는 Leksell 감마나이프 (Gamma Knife Unit; GKU) 와 LSF를 사용하였으며 실험을 위해 개발된 팬텀은 1mm 두께 플라스틱의 직경 160mm의 구형으로 물을 채울수 있는 구조로 되어있다. 측정장치로서는 목표점 설정(target localization)을 위한 필름과 전달 선량(dose delivery) 측정을 위해 이온 전리함(ionchamber) 을 사용하였으며 이를 팬텀의 목표점에 각각 위치시킬 수 있도록 설계하였다. 본 연구에서 목표점 확인은 허용 오차범위인 $\pm$0.5 mm 이내에서의 값을 보였으며 선량전달값은 $\pm$3% 정도의 오차로 허용값내에 있음을 보여주었다. 본 연구에서 개발된 팬텀으로 측정된 값이 모두 허용 오차범위 내에 있음을 보여주었고 이로인해 GKU 및 LSF의 주기적 QA(Quality Assurance)에 계속적으로 사용할수 있게 되었다. It is important that the precise decision of the region and the accurate delivery of radiation dose required for treatment in the stereotactic radiosurgery. In this research, radiosurgery was carried with Leksell streotactic frame(LSF) which is especially developed water phantom to verify in experiment. Leksell Gamma Knife and LSF are used in radiosurgery is the spherical water phantom has the thickness of 2 mm, the radius of 160mm. The film for target localization and ionchamber for dose delivery was used in measurement instruments We compare the coordinate of target which is initialized by biplannar film with simple X-ray to the coordinate of film measured directly. The calculated dose by computer simulation and the measured dose by ionization chamber are compared. In this research, the target localization has the range ${\pm}$0.3mm for the acceptable error range and the absolute dose is :${\pm}$0.3mm for the acceptable error range. This research shows that the values measured by using the especially manufactured phantom are included the acceptable error range. Thus, this water phantom will be used continuously in the periodic quality assurance of Gamma Knife Unit and Leksell Stereotactic Frame.

        Dosimetric Comparison of Helical Tomothearpy and Linac-based IMRT in Whole Abdomen Radiotherapy

        Recent advances in radiotherapy techniques have allowed a significant improvement in the therapeutic ratio of whole abdominal irradiation (WAI) through linear-accelerator (Linac) based intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and helical tomotherapy (HT). IMRT has been shown to reduce the dose to organs at risk (OAR) while adequately treating the tumor volume. HT operates by adjusting 51 beam directions, couch speed, pitch and shapes of a binary multileaf collimator (MLC), with the purpose of clinically increasing the befit to the patient. We incorporated helical tomotherapy as a new modality for WAI for the treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma patients whose disease involved the intestine and the mesenteric lymph nodes. Excellent tumor coverage with effective sparing of normal organ sparings, and homogeneous dose distribution could be achieved. This study dosimetrically compared HT and linac-based IMRT by using several indices, including the conformity index (CI) and the homogeneity index (HI) for the planning target volume (PTV), as well as the, max dose and the mean dose and the quality index (QI) for five organs at risk (OARs). The HI and the CI were used to compare the quality of target coverage while the QI was used compare the dosimetric performans for OAR systems. The target coverages between the two systems were similar, but the most QIs were lower than 1, what means that HT is batter at sparing OARs than IMRT. Tomotherapy enabled excellent target coverage, effective sparing of normal tissues, and homogeneous dose distribution without severe acute toxicity.

        Dosimetric Comparison of Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy for Spinal Metastasis in Cyberknife and Helical Tomotherapy

        This study seeks to evaluate the SBRT dosimetric benefit of Cyberknife and TomoTherapy for spinal tumor patients, in regards to successful plan acceptance and lower dosage to critical structures. This study compared the 2 systems in dose volume histogram (DVH) quantitatively, by using several indices for the dosimetric comparisons, including the conformity index (CI) and homogeneity index (HI) for the planned target volume (PTV). We planned L3 (n = 2), L5 (n = 1), T12 (n = 1), C3 (n = 1), and T5 (n = 1) spinal tumor case with planning target volumes ranging from 3.55 ~ 17.95 cc. Prescription dose is 1600 ~ 2000 cGy per single fraction. Cyberknife prescribed 80 ~ 85% in PTV and Tomotherapy 90 ~ 95%. The dosimetric data were compared between the two treatment systems by calculating the CI, HI, and maximum doses to the OARs from the treatment plans, which are generated for each site. Regarding the the homogeneity of PTV, both plans gave satisfactory results and no significant difference was observed. The spinal cord satisfied the partial volume tolerance dose (volume 10%, dose 10 Gy) in 16 ~ 18 Gy single fraction. We found that both planning systems satisfied the required PTV prescription, but better dose conformity and dose homogeneity, but a poorer dose gradient were achieved with HT compared with CK.

      • 디자인 패턴 기반 소프트웨어의 테스트 가능성 분석

        잘 설계된 모든 객체지향 구조들은 패턴들로 가득 차 있다는 점에서 볼 때, 디자인 패턴은 상당히 유용하다. 특히 정확성, 강건성, 유연성, 재사용성, 효율성 측면에서 볼 때, 디자인 패턴은 충분히 가치가 있다. 이 논문에서는 디자인 패턴을 사용한 소프트웨어에서 테스트 가능성은 어떻게 달라지는지를 분석하고 자 한다. 테스트 가능성을 측정하는 메트릭을 이용하여, 패턴이 적용된 소프트웨어와 적용되지 않은 소프트웨어에서의 메트릭을 분석한다. 측정된 값은 디자인 패턴을 사용하지 않은 소프트웨어에 비해, 사용한 소프트웨어에서 몇몇 메트릭이 낮은 값을 보였다. 이것은 디자인 패턴을 적용하는 것이 오류의 가능성이나 테스트 케이스의 수를 줄여 준다는 것을 의미한다. 또한 어떤 디자인 패턴이 적용되었는지를 알고 있을 때, 그 디자인 패턴에 맞는 테스트 케이스가 무엇인지 분석하였다.
