Hepatic Resection Provides Survival Benefit for Selected Intermediate-Stage (BCLC-B) Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients

        Zhang Zhaohui,Shen Shunli,Chen Bin,Li Shaoqiang,Hua Yunpeng,Kuang Ming,Liang Lijian,Peng Bao Gang 대한암학회 2019 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.51 No.1

Purpose The intermediate stage of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer [BCLC] B) comprises a highly heterogeneous population, and the treatment strategy is still controversial. Because of the heterogeneity, a subclassification of intermediate-stage HCCs was put forward by Bolondi according to the ‘beyond Milan and within up-to-7’ criteria and Child-Pugh score. In this study, we aim to analyze the prognosis of BCLC-B stage HCC patients who received hepatic resection according to the Bolondi’s subclassification. Materials and Methods One thousand and one hundred three patients diagnosed with HCC and treated with hepatic resection were enrolled in our hospital between 2006 and 2012. According to Bolondi’s subclassification, the BCLC-B patients were divided into four groups. Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. Results According to Bolondi’s subclassification, the BCLC-B patients were divided into four groups: B1 (n=41, 18.7%), B2 (n=160, 73.1%), B3 (n=11, 5.0%), and B4 (n=7, 3.2%). Significant difference was observed between B1 and other groups (B1 vs. B2, p=0.022; B1 vs. B3, p < 0.001; B1 vs. B4, p < 0.001), but no difference for B2 vs. B4 (p=0.542) and B3 vs. B4 (p=0.542). In addition, no significant differences were observed between BCLC-A and BCLCB1 group for both RFS (p=0.087) and OS (p=0.643). In multivariate analysis, BCLC-B subclassification was not a risk factor for both OS (p=0.263) and RFS (p=0.892). Conclusion In our study, HCC patients at B1 stage were benefited from hepatic resection and had similar survival to BCLC-A stage patients. Our study provided rationality of hepatic resection for selected BCLC-B stage HCC patients instead of routine transarterial chemoembolization.

        抗战时期韩国光复军的建立与国民政府

        ?朝?(Zhang Zhaohui),?志英(Liu Zhiying) 인천대학교 인문학연구소 2013 인문학연구 Vol.20 No.-

The Korean Independence Movement had derived the support from Kuomintang Governmentfrom beginning to end. Kuomintang Government played a unique and important role in building up the alliance between Korean anti-Japanese armed forces in China against Japan. Due to the backing of Kuomintang Government, two main Korean anti-Japanese forces in China—Korean Recovery Army and Korean Volunteer Militia—eventually achieved unification by the latter merging into the former, and struggled together against Japanese invasion. Kuomintang Government’s support and cooperation for the Korean Independence Movement wrote a historical chapter of Chinese and Korean people joining hands to fight in the Anti-Japanese War.

Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine: a potential and controversial treatment for COVID-19

        Li Zou,Lijun Dai,Xingyu Zhang,Zhaohui Zhang,Zhentao Zhang 대한약학회 2020 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.43 No.8

A novel coronavirus, later named SARS-CoV-2,was fi rst reported in China in December 2019 and subsequentlywidely identifi ed in the United States, Japan, SouthKorea, France, India, and other countries. The diseasecaused by SARS-CoV-2 infection was called COVID-19. The high fatality and morbidity rates of COVID-19 makeit the third largest global epidemic in this century. However, there are currently no approved antiviral drugs for theCOVID-19 treatment. Recently, two old antimalarial drugs, hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, have been found toexert anti-SARS-CoV-2 eff ects both in vitro and in vivo. Preliminaryclinical evidence suggests these drugs may havean eff ect on the treatment of COVID-19. Herein, we reviewthe pharmacokinetics characteristics and antiviral eff ects ofthese drugs, in addition to their side eff ects and clinical evidenceof their use for the COVID-19 treatment.

Quercetin Enhances Cisplatin Sensitivity of Human Osteosarcoma Cells by Modulating microRNA-217-KRAS Axis

Zhang, Xian,Guo, Qinggong,Chen, Jingtao,Chen, Zhaohui Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology 2015 Molecules and cells Vol.38 No.7

Quercetin can suppress osteosarcoma cell growth and metastasis. However, other effects of quercetin on osteosarcoma remain largely unknown. This research aims to evaluate the effects of quercetin in combination with cisplatin as treatment for osteosarcoma and investigate its regulatory mechanism. Cell viability and apoptosis in 143B cell line were determined after treatment with quercetin and/or cisplatin. RT-PCR and Western blot analysis were performed to determine the RNA or protein expression levels. Moreover, transwell assay was used to evaluate metastasis. Furthermore, rescue experiments were performed to investigate the potential regulatory mechanism of the treatment. Results showed that quercetin with concentration that was equal to or greater than $10{\mu}M$ inhibited 143B proliferation, while $5{\mu}M$ quercetin enhanced the cisplatin sensitivity of 143B cells. Expression of miR-217 was upregulated after quercetin and/or cisplatin treatment, while its target KRAS was downregulated both at mRNA and protein levels. MiR-217 knockdown led to the loss of enhanced cisplatin sensitivity while miR-217 overexpression showed the opposite effects, indicating that quercetin regulated cisplatin sensitivity by modulating the miR-217-KRAS axis. In conclusion, $5{\mu}M$ quercetin enhanced the cisplatin sensitivity by modulating the miR-217-KRAS axis. This finding suggests that quercetin may be administered with cisplatin to improve the treatment for osteosarcoma.

      • Yet another Hybrid Strategy for Auto-tuning SpMV on GPUs

        Zhaohui Wang,Xiaojie Qiu,Aimin Zhang,Yichao Cheng,Yi Peng,Sun Sun 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Software Engineering and Vol.9 No.5

Sparse matrix-vector multiplication (SpMV) is a key linear algebra algorithm and is widely used in many application domains. Besides multi-core architecture, there is also extensive research focusing on accelerating SpMV on many-core Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). SpMV computations have many indirect and irregular memory accesses, and load imbalance could occur while mapping computations onto single-instruction, multiple-data (SIMD) GPUs. SpMV is highly memory bandwidth-bound, though GPUs have massive computational resources, the performance of SpMV on GPUs is still unsatisfying. In this paper, we present a new hybrid strategy for auto-tuning SpMV on GPUs. Our strategy combines the advantages of row-major storage and column-major storage. Like many other strategies, we reordered a given sparse matrix according to row lengths in decreasing order. In order to be more adaptive and efficient, we proposed a new hybrid Blocked CSR and JDS (BCJ) format based on original CSR and JDS. BCJ splits a sparse matrix into a denser part and a sparser part after reordering and uses different kernels to process the corresponding part. And we proposed corresponding auto-tuning framework to help transforming matrix and launching kernels according to the sparsity characteristics of the matrix. A CUDA implementation of BCJ outperforms the original formats significantly on a broad range of unstructured sparse matrices.

An Isolated Bidirectional Modular Multilevel DC/DC Converter for Power Electronic Transformer Applications

        Zhaohui Wang,Junming Zhang,Kuang Sheng 전력전자학회 2016 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.16 No.3

With high penetration of renewable energies, power electronic transformers (PETs) will be one of the most important infrastructures in the future power delivery and management system. In this study, an isolated bidirectional modular multilevel DC/DC converter is proposed for PET applications. A modular multilevel structure is adopted as switching valves to sustain medium voltages to achieve modular design and high reliability. Only one high-frequency transformer is used in the proposed converter, which significantly simplifies the circuit and galvanic insulation design. A dual-phase-shift modulation strategy is proposed to regulate the output power and achieve a simple voltage balancing control. A down-scaled (2 kW/20 kHz) prototype is constructed to demonstrate the proposed converter and verify the control strategy. The experimental results comply with the theoretical analysis well, with the highest power efficiency reaching 97.6%.

Aligned nanofibrous collagen membranes from fish swim bladder as a tough and acid-resistant suture for pH-regulated stomach perforation and tendon rupture

        Zhaohui Luan,Shuang Liu,Wei Wang,Kaige Xu,Shaosong Ye,Ruijue Dan,Hong Zhang,Zhenzhen Shu,Tongchuan Wang,Chaoqiang Fan,Malcolm Xing,Shiming Yang 한국생체재료학회 2022 생체재료학회지 Vol.26 No.4

Background: Wound closure in the complex body environment places higher requirements on suture’s mechanical and biological performance. In the scenario of frequent mechanical gastric motility and extremely low pH, single functional sutures have limitations in dealing with stomach bleeding trauma where the normal healing will get deteriorated in acid. It necessitates to advance suture, which can regulate wounds, resist acid and intelligently sense stomach pH. Methods: Based on fish swim bladder, a double-stranded drug-loaded suture was fabricated. Its cytotoxicity, histocompatibility, mechanical properties, acid resistance and multiple functions were verified. Also, suture’s performance suturing gastric wounds and Achilles tendon was verified in an in vivo model. Results: By investigating the swim bladder’s multi-scale structure, the aligned tough collagen fibrous membrane can resist high hydrostatic pressure. We report that the multi-functional sutures on the twisted and aligned collagen fibers have acid resistance and low tissue reaction. Working with an implantable “capsule robot”, the smart suture can inhibit gastric acid secretion, curb the prolonged stomach bleeding and monitor real-time pH changes in rabbits and pigs. The suture can promote stomach healing and is strong enough to stitch the fractured Achilles tendon. Conclusions: As a drug-loaded absorbable suture, the suture shows excellent performance and good application prospect in clinical work.

      • Modular Multilevel Power Electronic Transformer

        Zhaohui Wang,Junming Zhang,Kuang Sheng 전력전자학회 2015 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2015 No.6

In this paper, a modular multilevel power electronic transformer structure for power distribution system is discussed. The proposed structure consists of two completely decoupled power stages. Modular multilevel converter is adopted as the front-end ac-dc stage to convert the medium ac voltage to medium dc voltage, or vice versa. Galvanic isolation and voltage conversion are realized by the cascaded dc-dc stage. Only one high frequency transformer is used in the dc-dc converter, which dramatically simplifies the circuit and galvanic isolation design. A dual phase shift control method is proposed to regulate the output and balance the submodule voltage in the dc-dc stage. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter and control method, a down-scaled prototype is constructed. The experimental results comply with the theoretical analysis very well.

Research on the Rotational Accuracy Measurement of an Aerostatic Spindle in a Rolling Bearing Performance Analysis Instrument

Zhaohui Yang,Jun Hong,JinHua Zhang,Michael Yu Wang 한국정밀공학회 2014 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

An ultra-precision instrument is developed to measure the rotational accuracy of a rolling bearing under working conditions. Thisinstrument uses a high-precision aerostatic spindle, which has high-stiffness to support a test bearing under large axial loading. Thiswork demonstrates the capabilities of the double-probe error separation method for the measurement of aerostatic spindle errormotion at various axial forces and rotational speeds. The rotational performance of an aerostatic spindle is discussed. The resultsindicate that the error motion and the form of the error of the measurement surface are reliably separated at various axial forces androtational speeds. In addition, the error motion of the aerostatic spindle is very stable, increasing slightly and smoothly as therotational speed increases. The error motion is less than 0.18 um when the speed reaches 1920 rpm. In the future, it will be possibleto separate the error motion of an aerostatic spindle from the measurement results of a test bearing.
