Objective: It is necessary to develop new guidelines to delineate the best ways of providing psychosocial care to ensure mental health following a disaster. Methods: This study applied the scoping review method as a means of establishing evidence-based guidelines for disaster mental health services. A total of 440 literatures were selected through a scoping review of 20,864 documents. Twenty-three recognized experts were invited to participate in the survey and a two-round online Delphi survey was conducted. Results: The concordance rate in the Delphi Round 1 was 95.1%. Six items were excluded and new items were formulated with experts’ suggestions. A total of 23 statements were slightly modified to clarify their meaning. In the Delphi Round 2, all items were met with consensus. The three items with the highest consensus among the experts were related to the protection of personal information and privacy. The item with the lowest consensus among experts was related to debriefing. Other items were related to establishing mental health support centers and suicide prevention activities. Conclusion: 140 items were developed through scoping reviews based on evidence-based methodology. These items were used to describe the disaster mental health support identified in Delphi. The guideline will provide a foundation for effective preparation and response in disaster situations.

Aim: Diabetes mellitus is considered as one of the most psychologically and behaviorally demanding chronic medical disorders. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is the central clinical indicator for glycemic control, a fundamental part of diabetic care. This study aimed to analyze the effects of emotional experience, healthcare provider interaction, and self-management behavior on HbA1c in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: Data were collected from 120 patients at six local clinics from April 12 to July 15, 2021. Scale of Positive and Negative Experience, Client Satisfaction Tool, Summary of Diabetes Self-care Activities Questionnaire, and HbA1c were used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The mean age of participants was 60.39 years, with average diabetes duration of 7.79 years. HbA1c values were negatively correlated with affect balance (r = -0.24, p = 0.007) and self-management behavior (r = -0.35, p < 0.001) and positively correlated with negative feelings (r = 0.27, p = 0.003). According to regression analysis, negative feelings, self-management behavior, complications, and gender account for 25.0% of HbA1c variance. Conclusion: Negative feelings and self-management behavior are considered to be important factors in blood glucose management for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, identifying effective interventions for strengthening emotional regulation while facilitating self-management behavior is essential for improving health outcomes.

Objective-The Korean Dementia Screening Questionnaire (KDSQ) is an informant-based instrument used to screen for cognitive dysfunction. However, its ability to only dichotomously discriminate between dementia and normal cognition has been previously investigated. This study investigated the ability of the KDSQ to classify not only dichotomous but also multiple stages of cognitive dysfunction. Methods-We examined 582 participants. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to determine dichotomous classification parameters. Multi-category ROC surfaces were evaluated to classify the three stages of cognitive dysfunction. Results-Dichotomous classification using the ROC curve analyses showed that the area under the curve was 0.92 for dementia for subjects without dementia and 0.96 for dementia in controls. Simultaneous multi-category classification analyses showed that the volume under the ROC surface (VUS) was 0.57 and that the derived optimal cut-off points were 2 and 8 for controls, MCI, and dementia. The estimated Youden index for the KDSQ was 0.48, and the derived optimal cut-off points were 5 and 10. The overall classification accuracy of the VUS and Youden index was 61.2% and 58.6%, respectively. Conclusion-The KDSQ is useful for classifying dichotomous and multi-category stages of cognitive dysfunction.

This paper aims not only to examine the gendered nature of the South Korean welfare state but also to investigate the ways in which social citizenship is bestowed upon women. Since the economic crisis occurred in 1997, South Korea has reinforced the gendered welfare state by granting social citizenship rights as attached to labor market status. Such social policy largely neglects the particular interests and needs of women and hinders the growth of their social citizenship. The paper therefore argue that for the development of full citizenship rights for women, caring work that is performed mostly by women in the private sphere should be recognized as an obligation as well as a right that constitutes citizenship.

Conventionally, immunotoxins have been produced as a single polypeptide from fused genes of an antibody fragment and a toxin. In this study, we adopted a unique approach of chemical conjugation of a toxin protein and an antibody fragment. The two genes were separately expressed in Escherichia coli and purified to high levels of purity. The two purified proteins were conjugated using a chemical linker. The advantage of this approach is its ability to overcome the problem of low recombinant immunotoxin production observed in some immunotoxins. Another advantage is that various combinations of immunotoxins can be prepared with fewer efforts, because the chemical conjugation of components is relatively simpler than the processes involved in cloning, expression, and purification of multiple immunotoxins. As a proof of concept, the scFv of trastuzumab and the PE24 fragment of Pseudomonas exotoxin A were separately produced using E. coli and then chemically crosslinked. The new immunotoxin was tested on four breast cancer cell lines variably expressing HER2. The chemically crosslinked immunotoxin exhibited cytotoxicity in proportion to the expression level of HER2. In conclusion, the present study revealed an alternative method of generating an immunotoxin that could effectively reduce the viability of HER2-expressing breast cancer cells. These results suggest the effectiveness of this method of immunotoxin crosslinking as a suitable alternative for producing immunotoxins. [BMB Reports 2019; 52(8): 496-501]

Licoricidin isolated from Glycyrrhiza uralensis is known to have anticancer, anti-nephritic, anti-Helicobacter pylori, and antibacterial effects. In this study, a cocktail probe assay and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/ MS) were used to investigate the modulating effect of licoricidin on cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes in human liver microsomes. When licoricidin was incubated at 0-25 μM with CYP probes for 60 min at 37oC, it showed potent inhibitory effects on CYP2B6-catalyzed bupropion hydroxylation and CYP2C9-catalyzed diclofenac 4’-hydroxylation with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 3.4 and 4.0 μM, respectively. The inhibition mode of licoricidin was revealed as competitive, dose-dependent, and non-time-dependent, and following the pattern of Lineweaver-Burk plots. The inhibitory effect of licoricidin has been confirmed in human recombinant cDNA-expressed CYP2B6 and 2C9 with IC50 values of 4.5 and 0.73 μM, respectively. In conclusion, this study has shown the potent inhibitory effect of licoricidin on CYP2B6 and CYP2C9 activity could be important for predicting potential herb-drug interactions with substrates that mainly undergo CYP2B- and CYP2C9- mediated metabolism.
