        Haiku, Zen, and Wanaki: The Hybridized Poetics of Gerald Vizenor

        This paper explores how Anishinaabe writer and postmodern critic Gerald Vizenor engages with creating animated words that concern trans-cultural conversations among different literary traditions. Both of Vizenor’s fictional and poetic works show an attempt to negotiate between Japanese culture and indigenous oral tradition and even between Western thoughts and indigenous philosophy. This is possible because Vizenor’s works represent the process in which his animated words, like native trickster figures, move beyond any fixed identity or time and space, actively participating in language games. While focusing on Vizenor’s theoretical commitment, this paper deals with Vizenor’s novel Dead Voices (1992), where Vizenor’s fictional device, Wanaki game, represents how trickster figures from Anishinaabe oral tradition work, and analyzes some of his early poems which concern the themes of Haiku based on Zen philosophy and Ojibwe dream songs. In demonstrating how such a hybridized voice is heard in Vizenorian poetry, “The Balcony,” one of Vizenor’s first serious poems is particularly compared to “On the road,” one of poems by Matsuo Basho, the Haiku master.

        혼합형 검사에서 IRT문항모수와 기저 능력분포의 동시 추정이 문항모수 추정의 정확도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 김성훈(2012)의 후속연구로서, 혼합형 검사의 IRT 문항모수를 주변최대우도(MML)/베이지언 최빈치(BM)방법을 통해 추정할 때 사전능력분포를 ‘표준정규 N(0, 1)분포로 지정하는 방식’보다 ‘기저 능력분포의 추정치로 지정하는 방식(즉, 문항모수와 능력분포를 동시에 추정하는 방식)’이 더 우수한지를 모의실험을 통해 확인하고자 하였다. PARSCALE프로그램을 이용하여 혼합형 검사의 선다형 문항은 3모수 로지스틱(3PL)모형으로 분석하고 구성형 문항은 일반화부분점수(GPC)모형으로 분석하였다. 모의실험의 요인으로 기저 능력분포의 유형, IRT분석 모형에 의한 검사의 유형, 검사의 곤란도, 표본의 크기 등을 포함하였다. 김성훈(2012)의 연구 결과와 유사하게, 사전능력분포를 기저 능력분포의 추정치로 지정하는 방식이 디폴트 방식인 N(0, 1)분포로 지정하는 방식보다 고려된 모든 검사 조건에서 우수하거나 대등한 수행을 보였다. 즉, 선다형 검사뿐만 아니라 혼합형 검사에 대해서도 IRT 문항모수와 기저 능력분포의 동시 추정은 문항모수 추정의 정확성과 안정성을 향상시켰다. In item response theory (IRT), the use of marginal maximum likelihood (MML) and Bayesian modal (BM) methods for item parameter estimation requites the specification of a prior distribution for the ability variable. With multiple-choice (MC) tests, Kim (2012) found that in MML/BM estimation of item parameter; the way of specifying the prior ability distribution as the estimate of underlying distribution (i.e., concurrent estimation of item parameters and underlying distribution) outperformed or peformed equally to the way of specifying the prior ability distribution as a standard normal N(0, 1) distribution. As a follow-up study of Kim (2012), this paper attempted to verify through simulations that the previous findings from Me tests should be generalized to mixed-format tests consisting of MC items and constructed-response (CR) items. The PARSCALE program was used to analyze MC and CR items via the 3-paramerer logistic (3PL) and generalized partial credit (GPO models, respectively. The simulation factors considered include type of underlying ability distributions (normal, positively skewed, and negatively skewed), test type by the IRT model used OPL, GPC, and 3PL+GPC), test difficulty (easy, moderately difficult, and difficult), and sample size (500 and 2,000). As found in Kim's study, the way of concurrently estimating the underlying distribution along with item parameters outperformed or peformed equally to the way of specifying the prior distribution as a N(0, 1) in accurate estimation of item parameters with mixed-format tests.

        법, 몸, 공간: 《헝거》와 《남영동 1985》에 나타난 예외상태

        This article examines how Steve McQueen’s 2008 film Hunger and Jiyoung Jeong’s 2012 film National Security (Namyeong-dong 1985) intersect in terms of Agambenian concepts of the “state of exception” and “homo sacer.” Based upon real political events in Northern Ireland and South Korea during 1970s and 80s, which could be referred to as “state of exception,” the films commonly highlight the images of the “bare life” of the protagonists, Bobby Sands and Jongtae Kim, as “homo sacer” that oscillates between bios and zoe. The films represent the featured spaces, HM Prison Maze and a torture room in Namyeong-dong respectively, as metonymic ones where biopolitics work surreptitiously and the protagonists’ bodies are both included and excluded by lawful violence of the sovereign power apositioned in-between the exercise and suspension of the law. Despite such similar thematic concerns, however, each film employs a different cinematic technique in embodying the effects of the metonymic spaces and in focusing on the featured biopolitical bodies. McQueen’s Hunger frequently utilizes structural-filmic images and shots, which contain the abstract and symbolic aspects of time-space setting, to represent the naked bodies of the incarcerated IRA members, particularly that of Bobby Sands, as a signifier of Irish anti-colonial struggle. Jeong’s National Security, on the other hand, presents relatively more chronological narrative and realistic shots that detail the process of how Jongtae Kim is included and excluded by the inhuman tortures committed by police officers, the agents of the sovereign power, during the military dictatorship.

        혼합형 검사를 사용한 피험자 능력모수 추정에서 가중우도 방법과 사후기대 방법의 기능 비교

        피험자의 능력모수 추정을 위해 개발된 문항반응이론(IRT) 가중우도(WL) 방법과 사후기대(EAP) 방법을 선다형 및 구성형 문항이 혼재된 다양한 혼합형 검사에 적용하였을 때 그 상대적 기능이 어떠한지를 모의실험을 통해 검토하였다. EAP 방법은 능력모수의 사전분포(prior)에 영향을 받는다는 것을 감안하여, 표준정규 사전분포에 기초한 방법과 균일사전분포에 기초한 방법으로 세분하였다. 능력모수 추정의 편파성(bias)을 분석한 결과,WL 방법은 대략 [-2, 2]의 능력 구간에서 거의 편파성을 보이지 않았으며, 능력척도의 양극단에서 원점(0)을 향한 근소한 축소 추정의 경향을 보였다. 표준정규 사전분포 EAP 방법은 능력모수를 사전분포의 평균을 향해 상당한 정도로 축소 추정하는 경향을 보인 반면, 균일 사전분포 EAP 방법은 평균(0)을 중심으로 능력척도의 하단과 상단에서 근소한 정적(+) 편파성과 부적(-) 편파성을 반복하는 패턴을 보였다. 능력모수 추정의 전체 오차(RMSE)에 대해서, 표준정규 사전분포 EAP 방법은 대략 [-2, 2]의 능력구간에서 가장 작은 오차를 산출한 반면 균일 사전분포 EAP 방법은 그 밖의 양 극단에서 가장 작은 오차를 산출하였으며, WL 방법은 두 EAP 방법이 산출한 오차들 사이에 위치하는 값을 산출하였다. 능력추정치들의 평행-검사형 신뢰도 계수에 있어서는, 표준정규 사전분포 EAP 방법이 가장 높은 값(약 0.92)을 산출하였고, 균일 사전분포 EAP 방법과 WL 방법은 거의 동일한 값(약 0.90)을 산출하였다 The performance of the weighted likelihood (WL) and expected a posteriori (EAP) methods for estimating item response theory (IRT) ability parameters was compared through computer simulation to investigate how they would function with various mixed format tests. The EAP method would function differentially depending on the type of ability prior, so two versions of it were considered: one was based on a standard normal N(0, 1) prior and the other on a uniform U[-4, 4] prior. For the estimation bias for given ability parameters, the WL estimator produced practically unbiased estimates in the interval of about [-2, 2] on the ability scale, but slightly shrunken estimates toward the origin in both tails of the ability scale (that is, inward bias, which means negative correlation with true ability). In contrast, the N(0, 1) prior EAP estimator performed a substantive shrinkage estimation of ability parameters toward the prior mean, whereas the uniform prior EAP estimator showed irregular wave-like bias curves of slight positive (+) and negative (-) bias being repeated around the mean (0), such as a pattern of “+-0+-.” For the total error of estimation (RMSE), the N(0, 1) prior EAP estimator produced the least error in the interval of about [-2, 2], whereas the uniform prior EAP estimator produced the least error in both sides of the interval. The WL estimator produced intermediate total errors located between the errors from the two EAP estimators. For the parallel-forms reliability coefficient for ability estimates, the N(0, 1) prior EAP estimator produced the highest values (about 0.92) and the uniform prior EAP and WL estimators produced almost the same values (about 0.90).

        Fuel cell vehicle (FCV) can be considered as a next generation transportation system. It has advantages such as zero-pollution and silence maneuvering. Therefore, these days major automotive companies are developing FCV. FCV has been developed using conventional tools such as ADVISOR and PSAT. In conventional tools, they are limited to computing vehicle energy efficiency of the longitudinal maneuvering. In this research, a virtual platform for a Fuel cell vehicle has been developed based on multi-body vehicle dynamics model. As a result, the virtual platform can be used for simulation of FCV dynamics characteristic and, at the same time, performance of fuel cell system. It is expected that a proposed virtual chassis platform produces more realistic simulation results than those from the conventional tools.

        Lifestyle Modification in the Management of Metabolic Syndrome: Statement From Korean Society of CardioMetabolic Syndrome (KSCMS)

        With the recent rapid increase in obesity worldwide, metabolic syndrome (MetS) has gained significant importance. MetS is a cluster of obesity-related cardiovascular risk factors including abdominal obesity, atherogenic dyslipidemia, high blood pressure and impaired glucose tolerance. MetS is highly prevalent and strongly associated with an increased risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease, putting a great burden on human society. Therefore, it is very important to reduce MetS risk, which can improve patients’ cardiovascular prognosis. The primary and most effective strategy to control each component of MetS is lifestyle change such as losing body weight, keeping regular exercise, adopting a healthy diet, quitting smoking and alcohol drinking in moderation. Many studies have shown that lifestyle modification has improved all components of MetS, and reduces the incidence of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Here, the Korean Society of CardioMetabolic Syndrome has summarized specific and practical methods of lifestyle modification in the management of MetS in the healthcare field.
