A micromixer is a component of a lab-on-a-chip or microfluidic device that mixes two or more chemicals together. The purpose of this study is to assess the performance of passive micromixer of various shapes. Six shapes of micromixers compared mixing performance. Three dimensional modeling was carried out to have the same hydraulic diameter. The commercial code, ANSYS Fluent, was used to simulate the internal mixing flow. A numerical analysis method is described in detail in this paper. The performance of the micromixer was compared with the mixing index and pressure drop. Consequently, the CDM-8T shape showed reasonable mixing performance and relatively low pressure drop.

마이크로 믹서는 랩-온-어-칩이나 마이크로 유체 기기의 하나의 구성품으로 두 가지의 화학 물질을 혼합(융합)하는 장치이다. 본 연구는 다양한 형상의 패시브 마이크로 믹서의 성능을 평가하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 다양한 형상의 마이크로 믹서는 총 6가지의 형상을 비교하였고, 서로 동일한 수력 직경을 갖도록 3차원 모델링하였다. 내부 혼합 유동을 전산모사하 기 위해여 상용 유동해석 프로그램인 ANSYS Fluent를 사용하였다. 수치해석 방법은 본 논문에 자세하게 기술하였다. 마이 크로 믹서의 성능 평가는 혼합 지수와 압력 강하로 비교하였고, 결론적으로 CDM-8T은 합리적인 혼합성능과 상대적으로 낮은 압력 강하를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. This paper reports a “2D” cell experiment platform which can independently control the dosage of two different drugs simultaneously in a discrete manner. While the typical microfluidic devices could control the concentration of only one chemical, lacking a multi-dimensional experiment ability, our device can control two different concentrations of chemicals with independent micro dispenser modules. The dispenser is based on the surface tension effect and the vent channel design. The feasibility is tested with EGFP-expressed E.coli and two different antibiotics. The result is well agreed with accepted observations; More E.coli is killed at higher doses of antibiotic. This platform will find its application in cocktail drug developing and stem cell differentiation experiment.
Micropipette for Dispensing Sub-nanoliter Volume in Discrete Manner

We report a microdispenser that can meter and mix sub-nanoliter liquids in a discrete quantity. Our device is based on the structural stopping valve used in passive dispensers. A vent channel was proposed, designed for the autonomous pausing of a metered liquid segment and the seamless joining of the subsequent segments. While the previous microfluidic devices could meter only a single drop [2-4], lacking in mixing multiple segments, our approach enables the metering/mixing of different liquids in a discrete ratio. This module will find applications in bio-engineering and pharmaceutical research including large-scale cell differentiation experiment and drug discovery platforms.
