New separation axioms on closure spaces generated by relations

RIA GUPTA,A.K. Das 장전수학회 2018 Proceedings of the Jangjeon mathematical society Vol.21 No.1

It is evident from recent developments that topological structures which are more general than usual topology has many applications in allied branches of Science and Engineering. Cech closure space dened by Cech [3] being a generalized topo- logical space has been utilized in digital topology [4, 10, 11], a theory developed in late 1960s for the study of geometric and topological properties of digital im- ages [5, 6, 8, 9]. Cech closure spaces are obtained from the Kuratowski ones by omitting the conditions of idempotency. In 2006, Allam, Bakeir and Abo-Tabl [1] introduced a new approach to dene closure spaces through relations and stud- ied lower separation axioms, continuous functions and subspaces on closure spaces generated by relations. In 2008, the same authors [2] introduced some methods to generate topologies via binary relations. G. Liu [7] in 2010, utilized the notion of aftersets and foresets [1] which is renamed as R-left and R-right relative sets in [7]. In the present paper, we introduced and studied higher separation axioms on closure spaces generated by relations. Let X be any set then a relation on X is a subset of X x X, i.e., R⊆ X x X. The formula (x; y) ∈ R is abbreviated as xRy means that x is in relation R with y.

        중력파와 천문학

        이형목,이창환,강궁원,오정근,김정리,오상훈,Lee, Hyung-Mok,Lee, Chang-Hwan,Kang, Gung-Won,Oh, John-J.,Kim, Chung-Lee,Oh, Sang-Hoon 한국천문학회 2011 天文學論叢 Vol.26 No.2

Gravitational waves are predicted by the Einstein's theory of General Relativity. The direct detection of gravitational waves is one of the most challenging tasks in modern science and engineering due to the 'weak' nature of gravity. Recent development of the laser interferometer technology, however, makes it possible to build a detector on Earth that is sensitive up to 100-1000 Mpc for strong sources. It implies an expected detection rate of neutron star mergers, which are one of the most important targets for ground-based detectors, ranges between a few to a few hundred per year. Therefore, we expect that the gravitational-wave observation will be routine within several years. Strongest gravitational-wave sources include tight binaries composed of compact objects, supernova explosions, gamma-ray bursts, mergers of supermassive black holes, etc. Together with the electromagnetic waves, the gravitational wave observation will allow us to explore the most exotic nature of astrophysical objects as well as the very early evolution of the universe. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the theory of gravitational waves, principles of detections, gravitational-wave detectors, astrophysical sources of gravitational waves, and future prospects.

A Study on the Power Comparison between Logistic Regression and Offset Poisson Regression for Binary Data

Kim, Dae-Youb,Park, Heung-Sun 한국통계학회 2012 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.19 No.4

In this paper, for analyzing binary data, Poisson regression with offset and logistic regression are compared with respect to the power via simulations. Poisson distribution can be used as an approximation of binomial distribution when n is large and p is small; however, we investigate if the same conditions can be held for the power of significant tests between logistic regression and offset poisson regression. The result is that when offset size is large for rare events offset poisson regression has a similar power to logistic regression, but it has an acceptable power even with a moderate prevalence rate. However, with a small offset size (< 10), offset poisson regression should be used with caution for rare events or common events. These results would be good guidelines for users who want to use offset poisson regression models for binary data.

ABSOLUTE PARAMETERS AND MASS-RADIUS-LUMINOSITY RELATIONS FOR THE SUB-TYPES OF W UMα BINARIES

AWADALLA N. S.,HANNA M. A. The Korean Astronomical Society 2005 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.38 No.2

The authors have assembled a sample of 80 W UMa binary systems (42 W-subtype and 38 A-subtype) whose light curves have all been solved by means of the recent W-D code and combined with up-to-date radial velocity solutions. The absolute parameters (masses, radii and luminosities) have been derived (without any constraint on the physical parameters). The main results of this paper are: (1) the mass-luminosity relations for both W&A-subtypes. as well as for all W UMa contact binaries have been shown, (2) the mass-radius relations have been found for both subtypes, (3) some remarks on the evolution status have been presented.

Disseminating the Binary Opposition as a Way of Critiquing Postcolonial Project: Hove’s Bones

        이승복 21세기영어영문학회 2020 영어영문학21 Vol.33 No.2

Chenjerai Hove’s Bones warns of the danger of postcolonial critics and writers to entrap themselves into the hierarchical binarism the West has established and maintained. By trying to blur the boundary between what is considered masculine and feminine, and thus deconstruct the hierarchical relation of that binarism, Hove emphasizes the diverse important aspects in human affairs. To stress the diverse aspects and put the same importance on all human affairs, Hove deconstructs binarism such as man/woman, nationalism/womanhood, tradition/modernization, nature/civilization, and city/country since this kind of binary relationship is itself a product of the Western ideology. For his purpose, Hove has a powerless female farm laborer as the center of the text and her feminine qualities, later succeeded by another female character, function to overcome nationalism, which is to emphasize things Zimbabwean and African. By doing so, Hove makes himself not an author but a mere recorder of what the characters have said and thus disarms any kind of authority postcolonial critics and writers might possess however involuntarily. The feminine traits of Marita and Janifa do not, however, reject nationalism which is generally considered to have masculine aspects, but embrace it. What makes this text so unique is that, in describing Zimbabwean people’s suffering, Hove begins with the very private act of reading a love letter in a place where people help themselves in a time where the whole nation is fighting for national independence. What Hove is doing in the beginning is to overturn the order of importance, to make national and public agenda of fighting for national freedom overwhelmed by personal concern. Against the popular belief that freedom is more important to the colonized than the personal interest, Hove argues that the personal/private is as much as, or often more than, the so-called public benefit. Later in the text, feminine features function to regain and preserve things Zimbabwean which the freed Zimbabwean people, who are mostly male, are likely to reject in the process of urbanization and modernization. By having feminine features as the center of his work, Hove urges readers to do away with hierarchical distinction between the powerful/privilged and the powerless/unprivileged.

        Voting Analysis in Political Science

        김창범 한국지능시스템학회 2009 한국지능시스템학회논문지 Vol.19 No.4

In this paper we consider voting analysis in the political science in connection with Bn(or Mn{0, 1}), the semigroup of the binary relations on X with n elements. We also consider it in connection with Mn(F) (or Bn(F)), the semigroup of all fuzzy binary relations on X. Also we establish a possibility theorem and an impossibility theorem in voting analysis based on preferences in Bn and Mn(F).
