Parotid canalicular adenoma is a benign neoplasm that is predominantly composed of branching and interconnecting cords of single or double rows of columnar epithelium in a very loose stroma. There has been considerable confusion in the literature concerning the terminology of canalicular adenoma. However, thesedays it has been newly-recognized as a discrete entity of the monomorphic adenoma group. Canalicular adenoma has a remarkable predilection for occurrence in the minor salivary glands such as the upper lip, in contrast with basal cell adenoma that occurs predominantly in major salivary glands such as the parotid gland. We have experienced a case of canalicular adenoma of the parotid gland in a 65-year-old woman. The patient had a palpable mass on the preauricular area for the last 15 years and recently noticed a mild pain and discomfort on the mass. Neck ultrasonography showed a low echogenic mass of 1.0cm in diameter in the right parotid gland and a neck CT scan showed a well-enhanced rectangular-shaped mass. A superficial parotidectomy was performed for the lesion and the final pathologic diagnosis turned out to be 'multifocal canalicular adenoma'.

( Seong Hoon Seo ),( Jong Hoon Kim ),( Mi Ryung Roh ) 대한피부과학회 2018 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.70 No.1

Canalicular adenoma is a rare benign tumor that arises in the minor salivary gland. A 71-year-old Korean male patient visited our clinic with a 1cm-sized asymptomatic nodule on the upper lip. Excision was performed under impression of epidermal cyst. Histopathologically, various sized tubular structures and squamous morules were seen. Tubular structures were lined with 1 or 2 layers of basophilic columnar cells. Immunohistochemical studies with S-100, CK(AE1/3) and p63 were positive. In conclusion, the case was diagnosed as canalicular adenoma. Clinically, canalicular adenoma usually presents as an asymptomatic nodule in the upper lip or buccal mucosa. Histopathologically, it shows tubular structures composed of 1 or 2 layers of columnar cells and intraluminal hemorrhage. Squamous morules, which seem to represent metaplasia, are known to be the unique finding for this tumor. Immunohistochemical stains are often helpful for the diagnosis of canalicular adenoma which is positive for S-100 and CK(AE1/3). We report an educational and rare case of canalicular adenoma in a Korean patient.

Canalicular adenoma is a rare benign tumor that arises in the minor salivary gland. Clinically, it usually presents as an asymptomatic nodule on the upper lip or buccal mucosa. It is necessary to histopathologically differentiate canalicular adenoma from basal cell adenoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma. Canalicular adenoma shows tubular structures composed of 1 or 2 layers of columnar cells and intraluminal hemorrhage. Squamous morules, which seem to represent metaplasia, are a unique finding for this tumor. Immunohistochemical staining is often helpful for the diagnosis of canalicular adenoma, which is positive for S-100 and CK (AE1/3). Herein, we report a case of canalicular adenoma in a 71-year-old man who presented with an asymptomatic nodule on the upper lip. As far as we know, this is the first report of canalicular in Korean Dermatology Journal. (Korean J Dermatol 2019;57(1):24∼27)

Canalicular adenoma is a uncommon benign salivary gland tumor and it most frequently involves minor salivary gland of upper lip. It rarely occurs in parotid gland. The canalicular tumor of parotid gland can be manifestes clinically and pathologically as a multifocal lesion, which is not generally seen with other intraoral salivary gland tumors. Recently, we experienced a case of multifocal canalicular adenoma occurred on parotid gland in a 65-year-old woman and report it to support the view that canalicular adenoma occur rarely in parotid gland, and is recognizable entities.

        김도형,팽준영,이성탁,최소영 대한구강악안면병리학회 2017 대한구강악안면병리학회지 Vol.41 No.5

Canalicular adenoma is an uncommon, benign salivary gland tumor. It has a significant predilection for occurrence in the minor salivary glands, with most cases occurring in the upper lip, followed by the buccal mucosa and palate. Rarely, canalicular adenoma can involve the major salivary glands, such as the parotid gland. Only a small number of cases of canalicular adenoma of the parotid gland have been reported in the literature. We report a rare case of canalicular adenoma on the left parotid gland of an 81-year-old man, and present a review of the literature.
