Serum adipokines play different roles in type I and II ketosis

        Shen Liuhong,Zhu Yingkun,Xiao Jinbang,Qian Bolin,You Liuchao,Zhang Yue,Yu Shumin,Zong Xiaolan,Cao Suizhong 아세아·태평양축산학회 2020 Animal Bioscience Vol.33 No.12

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the differences in several serum adipokines in perinatal dairy cows with type I and II ketosis, and the correlations between these adipokines and the two types of ketosis. Methods: Serum adiponectin (ADP), leptin (LEP), resistin, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels, and energy balance indicators related to ketosis were measured. Type I and II ketosis were distinguished by serum glucose (Glu) and Y values and the correlations between adipokines in the two types of ketosis were analyzed. Results: β-Hydroxybutyric acid of type I ketosis cows was significantly negatively correlated with insulin (INS) and LEP and had a significant positive correlation with serum ADP. In type II ketosis cows, ADP and LEP were significantly negatively correlated, and INS and resistin were significantly positively correlated. Revised quantitative INS sensitivity check index (RQUICKI) values had a significantly positive correlation with ADP and had a very significant and significant negative correlation with resistin, TNF-α, and IL-6. ADP was significantly negatively correlated with resistin and TNF-α, LEP had a significantly positive correlation with TNF-α, and a significantly positive correlation was shown among resistin, IL-6, and TNF-α. There was also a significant positive correlation between IL-6 and TNF-α. Conclusion: INS, ADP, and LEP might exert biological influences to help the body recover from negative energy balance, whereas resistin, TNF-α, and IL-6 in type II ketosis cows exacerbated INS resistance and inhibited the production and secretion of ADP, weakened INS sensitivity, and liver protection function, and aggravated ketosis.

        Zhang, Zong-Xin,Shen, Cui-Fen,Zou, Wei-Hua,Shou, Li-Hong,Zhang, Hui-Ying,Jin, Wen-Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.3

Objective: We aimed to identify key genes, pathways and function modules in the development of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) with microarray data and interaction network analysis. Methods: Microarray data sets for 7 DLBCL samples and 7 normal controls was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified with Student's t-test. KEGG functional enrichment analysis was performed to uncover their biological functions. Three global networks were established for immune system, signaling molecules and interactions and cancer genes. The DEGs were compared with the networks to observe their distributions and determine important key genes, pathways and modules. Results: A total of 945 DEGs were obtained, 272 up-regulated and 673 down-regulated. KEGG analysis revealed that two groups of pathways were significantly enriched: immune function and signaling molecules and interactions. Following interaction network analysis further confirmed the association of DEGs in immune system, signaling molecules and interactions and cancer genes. Conclusions: Our study could systemically characterize gene expression changes in DLBCL with microarray technology. A range of key genes, pathways and function modules were revealed. Utility in diagnosis and treatment may be expected with further focused research.

Study on Consumer Preferences for Discount Presentations in Different Purchase Contexts

        Lu ZONG,Shen DUAN 한국유통과학회 2021 유통과학연구 Vol.19 No.12

Purpose: There is still lack of guidance for merchants toward price discount presentations (absolute/relative), especially for consumers in different purchase contexts. Based on the general evaluability theory, this study investigates consumers’ preferences for the presentation of discounts in various contexts through experiments. Research design, data and methodology: The relationship between discount presentation and consumers’ preference is investigated in Study 1 using a two-factor between-subject design of 2 (purchase type: material vs. experiential) ×2 (discount type: absolute vs. relative). The Moderating effect of thinking mode has been examined in Study 2 via a multi-factor intergroup design of 2 (purchase type: material vs. experiential) ×2 (discount type: absolute vs. relative) ×2 (cognitive load: high vs. low). One-way ANOVA and planned contrast have been performed for analysis. Results: Experiment 1 reveals that consumers prefer absolute discounts rather than relative discounts when in material purchases. However, when in experiential purchases, they are willing to choose relative discounts. Experiment 2 verifies the boundary conditions of matching effect and illustrates the generation of matching effect is determined by thinking mode. Conclusions: Our study enriches the theories of purchase type and thinking mode. Simultaneously, the results provide practical guidance for merchants to formulate the discount presentation and distribution pricing strategies.

Enhancing Performances of Polyamide 66 Short Fiber/Natural Rubber Composites via In Situ Vulcanization Reaction

        Zhi Hao,Junqi Shen,Xiang Sheng,Zong Shen,Le Yang,Xuefeng Lu,Zhu Luo,Qiang Zheng 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.2

This paper details a new method for improving the interfacial bonding between PA66 short fiber (PSF) and natural rubber (NR) by reaction of the methacrylic acid (MAA)-grafting-modified PSF with rubber during vulcanization. Carboncarbon double bonds introduced to the SF surface by MAA grafting were opened, and a vulcanization reaction occurred between the modified PSF and rubber in the presence of sulfur. The chemical reactions were verified by FTIR and XPS. The processing rheological behaviors of the compounded composites were investigated by a rubber processing analyzer (RPA). The morphology of modified PSF was characterized by AFM and SEM. The improved interfacial bonding was confirmed by DMA, which enhanced deformational stress at definite elongation of the NR/PSF composites. The volume concentration of the MAA solution for grafting on the SF surface had a great influence on the interfacial bonding and mechanical properties of the composites; when the volume concentration was 30 %, the modified PSF-reinforced NR/CB had the best interfacial bonding and mechanical properties.

      • Reconstruction of 7T-Like Images From 3T MRI

        Bahrami, Khosro,Shi, Feng,Zong, Xiaopeng,Shin, Hae Won,An, Hongyu,Shen, Dinggang IEEE 2016 IEEE transactions on medical imaging Vol.35 No.9

<P>In the recent MRI scanning, ultra-high-field (7T) MR imaging provides higher resolution and better tissue contrast compared to routine 3T MRI, which may help in more accurate and early brain diseases diagnosis. However, currently, 7T MRI scanners are more expensive and less available at clinical and research centers. These motivate us to propose a method for the reconstruction of images close to the quality of 7T MRI, called 7T-like images, from 3T MRI, to improve the quality in terms of resolution and contrast. By doing so, the post-processing tasks, such as tissue segmentation, can be done more accurately and brain tissues details can be seen with higher resolution and contrast. To do this, we have acquired a unique dataset which includes paired 3T and 7T images scanned from same subjects, and then propose a hierarchical reconstruction based on group sparsity in a novel multi-level Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) space, to improve the quality of 3T MR image to be 7T-like MRI. First, overlapping patches are extracted from the input 3T MR image. Then, by extracting the most similar patches from all the aligned 3T and 7T images in the training set, the paired 3T and 7T dictionaries are constructed for each patch. It is worth noting that, for the training, we use pairs of 3T and 7T MR images from each training subject. Then, we propose multi-level CCA to map the paired 3T and 7T patch sets to a common space to increase their correlations. In such space, each input 3T MRI patch is sparsely represented by the 3T dictionary and then the obtained sparse coefficients are used together with the corresponding 7T dictionary to reconstruct the 7T-like patch. Also, to have the structural consistency between adjacent patches, the group sparsity is employed. This reconstruction is performed with changing patch sizes in a hierarchical framework. Experiments have been done using 13 subjects with both 3T and 7T MR images. The results show that our method outperforms previous methods and is able to recover better structural details. Also, to place our proposed method in a medical application context, we evaluated the influence of post-processing methods such as brain tissue segmentation on the reconstructed 7T-like MR images. Results show that our 7T-like images lead to higher accuracy in segmentation of white matter (WM), gray matter (GM), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and skull, compared to segmentation of 3T MR images.</P>

      • Segmentation of perivascular spaces in 7T MR image using auto-context model with orientation-normalized features

        Park, Sang Hyun,Zong, Xiaopeng,Gao, Yaozong,Lin, Weili,Shen, Dinggang Elsevier 2016 NeuroImage Vol.134 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Quantitative study of perivascular spaces (PVSs) in brain magnetic resonance (MR) images is important for understanding the brain lymphatic system and its relationship with neurological diseases. One of the major challenges is the accurate extraction of PVSs that have very thin tubular structures with various directions in three-dimensional (3D) MR images. In this paper, we propose a learning-based PVS segmentation method to address this challenge. Specifically, we first determine a region of interest (ROI) by using the anatomical brain structure and the vesselness information derived from eigenvalues of image derivatives. Then, in the ROI, we extract a number of randomized Haar features which are normalized <I>with respect to</I> the principal directions of the underlying image derivatives. The classifier is trained by the random forest model that can effectively learn both discriminative features and classifier parameters to maximize the information gain. Finally, a sequential learning strategy is used to further enforce various contextual patterns around the thin tubular structures into the classifier. For evaluation, we apply our proposed method to the 7T brain MR images scanned from 17 healthy subjects aged from 25 to 37. The performance is measured by voxel-wise segmentation accuracy, cluster-wise classification accuracy, and similarity of geometric properties, such as volume, length, and diameter distributions between the predicted and the true PVSs. Moreover, the accuracies are also evaluated on the simulation images with motion artifacts and lacunes to demonstrate the potential of our method in segmenting PVSs from elderly and patient populations. The experimental results show that our proposed method outperforms all existing PVS segmentation methods.</P>

Structure and energy storage properties of Re0.02 Sr0.98TiO3 (Re = La, Pr, Sm) ceramics

Wen-Qin Luo,Zong-Yang Shen 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2016 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.17 No.4

The Re0.02Sr0.98TiO3 (ReST, Re = La, Pr, Sm) ceramics with single cubic perovskite structures were prepared by a solid statereaction method. The structure and dielectric properties of the ReST ceramics were investigated for energy storage capacitorapplications. Strongly improved dielectric constant (εr > 2000 @1 kHz) with a good bias electric field stability was achieved forthe ReST ceramics. Together with relatively low dielectric loss (tanδ ≤ 3% @1 kHz) and normally high breakdown strength(Eb > 15 kV/mm), the ReST ceramics should be very promising for energy storage capacitors in pulsed power electronics.

Hypoxia-induced circRNF13 promotes the progression and glycolysis of pancreatic cancer

        Zhao Qiuyan,Zhu Zhonglin,Xiao Wenqin,Zong Guanzhao,Wang Chuanyang,Jiang Weiliang,Li Kai,Shen Jie,Guo Xingya,Cui Jianhua,Guo Lihong,Wan Rong 생화학분자생물학회 2022 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.54 No.-

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the most malignant tumors. Rapid progression and distant metastasis are the main causes of patient death. Hypoxia is a hallmark of multiple cancers and is involved in tumor biology. However, little is known about the roles of circRNAs in glycolysis and hypoxia-mediated progression of PC. Here, the expression pattern of hypoxia-related circRNAs was analyzed using RNA sequencing. A unique circRNA termed circRNF13 was found to be upregulated in PC tissues and may be a potential prognostic indicator. HIF-1α and EIF4A3 are involved in regulating the biogenesis of circRNF13. Furthermore, circRNF13 was validated to exert a stimulative effect on cell proliferation, angiogenesis, invasion and glycolysis. Importantly, we found that circRNF13 promoted PDK3 levels by acting as a miR-654-3p sponge, thus promoting the PC malignant process. Collectively, our results reveal that hypoxia-induced circRNF13 mediated by HIF-1α and EIF4A3 promotes tumor progression and glycolysis in PC, indicating the potential of circRNF13 as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for PC.
