Previous investigators demonstrate that the impact performance of the drifter is affected by the forces such as viscous friction resistance and axial thrust of liquid. In this research, some other forces including hydraulic sticking force, sealing resistance, steady flow force and transient flow force are also taken into the consideration to develop a non-linear mathematical model of the dualchamber- controlled hydraulic drifter. We take piston mass, supply flow rate, supply pressure and the front and back work areas of the piston as the main design parameters to predict the impact efficiency of the drifter using the controlling variable method. The result shows that the impact efficiency decrease as the increasing of the piston mass or supply flow rate. The impact efficiency reaches a peak value 0.48 when the supply pressure P ranges from 150 to 230 bars. The decrease of the front work area A1 of the piston, as well as the increase of the back work area A2, would improve the impact efficiency. With the combination of the design parameters P, A1 and A2, there is a high efficiency area 162.5 < P < 230 bars and 0.48 < A1/A2 < 0.86 with the impact efficiency value 0.46- 0.495.
Immature Fruit Recognition using Exposure Fusion and Machine Learning

Labor shortage is one of the most serious issues in agriculture industry. During harvest season, a lack of manpower may delay the best time for harvesting and significantly affects the postharvest processes and its quality, especially for perishable products, e.g. fruit and vegetables. Mechanical harvesting provides a solution to alleviate the situation by integrating mechanism design and machine vision to perform automatic harvesting. Precise identification and localization algorithm for targeted crops are keys in the system. However, uneven field illumination and high color similarity between target and background perturb the object identification in machine vision. In this study, exposure fusion, a newly developed method to capture a scene with higher dynamic range, is applied to overcome the influence of light for target images. Eleven exposure values will be tested to obtain a best fused image for further analysis. Color space transformation and machine-learning approaches, such as support vector machine (SVM) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) are proposed to segment immature green fruits (e.g. cherry tomatoes and kumquats) from leafy background.
Study on solid-state conditions and growth characteristics of Paecilomyces lilacinus HY-4

Paecilomyces lilacinus HY-4 is an entomopathogenic filamentous fungus that has exhibited insecticidal activity against Adoretus tenuimaculatus and Tetranychus urticae. Strain HY-4 has attracted a great deal of industrial concerns because this organism can be applicable as a potent bio-pesticide. In this study, we developed an optimal diphasic fermentation technique for HY-4 conidial production. The substrate prescription which was made up of hulls or brans was obtained by screening of agricultural products, and the conidial production could reach a minimum of 2.5×1010 conidia/g after solid fermentation for 12 days in a given condition. It was interesting to note that strain HY-4 was propitious to sporulate more efficiently and productively in liquid fermentation process in the presence of insect pupa. For the industrial application of the HY-4 spores, their pH and thermal stabilities were evaluated on SDA agar plate as well. Additionally, the germination rate of HY-4 spores was still above 90% even when they were stored for 5 months at ambient temperature.
Non-dimensional analysis of cylindrical objects freely dropped into water in two dimensions (2D)

The dropped objects are identified as one of the top ten causes of fatalities and serious injuries in the oil and gas industry. It is of importance to understand dynamics of dropped objects under water to accurately predict the motion of dropped objects and protect the underwater structures and facilities from being damaged. In this paper, we study non-dimensionalization of two-dimensional (2D) theory for dropped cylindrical objects. Non-dimensionalization helps to reduce the number of free parameters, identify the relative size of effects of force and moments, and gain a deeper insight of the essential nature of dynamics of dropped cylindrical objects under water. The resulting simulations of dimensionless trajectory confirms that drop angle, trailing edge and drag coefficient have the significant effects on dynamics of trajectories and landing location of dropped cylindrical objects under water.
Study on Aging Characteristics and Chemical Composition of Hydrogenated Transformer Oil

Under the condition of Baader aging, the chemical composition variation and the influence of transformer oil aging on electrical properties such as dielectric loss factor and physicchemical properties such as interfacial tension were studied in the aging precess. Moreover, the correlation between hydrogenated transformer oil electrical and physic-chemical properties and its chemical composition variation were also investigated. The results show that these parameters of physic-chemical and electrical properties of hydrogenated transformer oil relate to each other and have closed correlation with chemical composition.

An entomopathogenic filamentous fungus, Paecilomyces lilacinus strain HY-4, has a great potential as a promising bio-pesticide due to its superior pathogenicity against Adoretus tenuimaculatus and Tetranychus urticae. When the fungal strain infects host cuticle, it secrets a combination of hydrolytic enzymes including chitinase to solubilize the cuticle. Thus, we investigated effects of different carbon and nitrogen sources on the production of a chitinase from P. lilacinus strain HY-4. The organism produced an extracellular chitinase at a relatively high level (45.4 mU/ml) when cultivated for 5 days on a medium supplemented with insect pupa (0.5%) and colloidal chitin (1%), which was prepared by treating chitin from crab shells (Sigma-Aldrich Co. Ltd.) with 12 N HCl solution. However, extracellular secretion of chitinase by strain HY-4 was found to be significantly repressed in the presence of glucose (1%).

Galanin (Gal) is a 29-amino-acid neuropeptide which is expressed in superior cervical ganglion (SCG) neurons and plays a trophic role in the adult animal and acts as an inhibitory modulator of cholinergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission. Whether activation or inhibition of alpha-adrenoreceptors infl uences Gal mRNA expression in SCG neurons remains unknown. Here, we have evaluated the possible regulation of Gal mRNA expression with acute (4 h) and chronic (4 days) stimulation of alpha 1- and alpha 2-adrenoreceptor agonists or antagonists in primary cultured SCG neurons. The results showed that the amount of Gal mRNA expression in cultured SCG neurons increased significantly after chronic stimulation with alpha 2-adrenoreceptor antagonist yohimbine compared with control SCG neurons at the same time point, whereas the amount of Gal mRNA expression decreased significantly after chronic stimulation with alpha 2-adrenoreceptor agonist clonidine as compared with that in control group. All these effects were not dose-dependent on the administration of alpha 2-adrenoreceptor agonist clonidine or alpha 2-adrenoreceptor antagonist yohimbine. Alpha 1-adrenoreceptor agonist phenylephrine or antagonist prazosin chronic stimulation did not have effects on Gal mRNA expression. Acute exposure of these agents did not have effects on Gal mRNA expression. The present study showed that Gal may be regulated by activation or inhibition of alpha 2-adrenoreceptors, but not alpha 1-adrenoreceptors in sympathetic neurons.
