        Stability region of floating intermediate support in a shaft system with multiple universal joints

        A floating intermediate support is designed to reduce kinematic and dynamic fluctuations caused by the change of joint angles in ashaft system with multiple universal joints. The dynamic equation of the shaft system is derived via the principle of virtual work, whichsuggests the angular displacement of the input shaft is the only independent variable. A drive shaft system used in an articulated dumptruck is taken as an example to analyze the sensitivities of shaft speed and input torque of the system about structural parameters andsystem variables, which proves the effectiveness of floating support to attenuate the kinematic and dynamic fluctuations of the shaft system. The stability region of floating support aimed at shaft speed and input torque of the system keeping relatively stable is obtained bysetting proper upper limits of objectives, and the analysis results are verified by dynamic simulation in MapleSim platform, which ishelpful to decide proper stiffness and damping or determine an optimum control strategy for floating angle of support in design.

        Genetic parameter estimation for reproductive traits in QingYu pigs and comparison of carcass and meat quality traits to Berkshire×QingYu crossbred pigs

        Objective: The QingYu pig is well known for its excellent meat quality attributes in Sichuan province, China. In order to improve its production efficiency, the determination of genetic factors contributing to quantifiable economic traits of livestock is important. Moreover, the cross-breeding of QingYu pigs with western breeds possessing strong growth attributes is an efficient way to improve the performance of this breed. Methods: Here, the genetic parameters of several important reproductive traits of QingYu pigs were estimated, include total number born (TNB), number born alive, litter birth weight, individual birth weight, number of piglets weaned, litter weaning weight, and individual weaning weight. The data was analyzed using the ASReml 3.0 software (NSW Inc., Sydney, Australia). Furthermore, the effects of crossing Berkshire with QingYu (BQ) pigs on carcass and meat quality traits, as well as the effects of slaughter weight on carcass and meat quality of BQ were characterized. Results: QingYu pigs exhibited superior reproductive traits. The TNB available to QingYu pigs was more than 8 per parity. The observed repeatability of the reproductive traits of the QingYu pigs was between 0.10 and 0.23. The significantly correlated genetic and phenotypic of reproduction traits were consistent. Interestingly, the BQ pigs exhibited improved carcass quality, with a significant increase in loin muscle area, lean percentage and reduction in sebum percentage. As a result, BQ had higher L45min, lower cooking scores, and lower drip loss. In addition, the loin muscle area, body length, and sebum percentage were significantly higher in 90 and 100 kg animals. Cooking loss showed a significant increase at 80 kg, and marbling increased significantly from 90 kg. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that QingYu pigs exhibit excellent reproductive properties and heritability of these traits. Crossing with Berkshire is an efficient strategy to improve the carcass and meat quality of QingYu pigs for commercial operations. Furthermore, it appears as though the optimal slaughter weight of BQ pigs is at approximately 90 kg.

        Effect of supplemental blue light intensity on the growth and quality of Chinese kale

        The infl uence of blue light on the growth and quality of vegetables is controversial, since both positive and negative eff ectshave been observed on diff erent varieties of vegetables and most research has been conducted with a combination of lightspectrums. In this work, we investigated the eff ects of supplemental blue light intensity on growth, nutritional quality, andhealth-promoting compounds of Chinese kale ( Brassica alboglabra Bailey) using only blue (460 nm) light-emitting diodes10 days before harvest in a greenhouse under ambient light conditions. Four blue-light treatments were conducted (0, 50,100, and 150 μmol m −2 s −1 , named T0, T50, T100, and T150, respectively) with 12 h (6:00–18:00) of light treatment perday. The growth of Chinese kale plants was improved by supplemental blue light. The fresh and dry weights of Chinesekale plants were signifi cantly higher under T50 and T100 than those in the other treatments. The content of chlorophyll band total chlorophyll increased signifi cantly under T50, and the content of carotenoids increased signifi cantly under T150. The contents of soluble sugars and free amino acids were signifi cantly increased under the blue light treatments. The nitratecontent decreased with increasing blue light intensity, while the anthocyanin content increased. The contents of vitamin Cin T50 and total phenolic compounds in T150 were signifi cantly higher than in T0. The fl avonoid contents were signifi canthigher in T50 and T150, and signifi cantly lower in T100. Our results show that blue light can infl uence the growth and qualityof Chinese kale and 50 μmol m −2 s −1 of supplemental blue light might be the most feasible light intensity for Chinesekale production.

      • Vibration characteristic of rubber isolation plate-shell integrated concrete liquid-storage structure

        To obtain the seismic response of lead-cored rubber, shape memory alloy (SMA)-rubber isolation Plate-shell Integrated Concrete Liquid-Storage Structure (PSICLSS), based on a PSICLSS in a water treatment plant, built a scale experimental model, and a shaking table test was conducted. Discussed the seismic responses of rubber isolation, SMA-rubber isolation PSICLSS. Combined with numerical model analysis, the vibration characteristics of rubber isolation PSICLSS are studied. The results showed that the acceleration, liquid sloshing height, hydrodynamic pressure of rubber and SMA-rubber isolation PSICLSS are amplified when the frequency of seismic excitation is close to the main frequency of the isolation PSICLSS. The earthquake causes a significant leakage of liquid, at the same time, the external liquid sloshing height is significantly higher than internal liquid sloshing height. Numerical analysis showed that the low-frequency acceleration excitation causes a more significant dynamic response of PSICLSS. The sinusoidal excitation with first-order sloshing frequency of internal liquid causes a more significant sloshing height of the internal liquid, but has little effect on the structural principal stresses. The sinusoidal excitation with first-order sloshing frequency of external liquid causes the most enormous structural principal stress, and a more significant external liquid sloshing height. In particular, the principal stress of PSICLSSS with long isolation period will be significantly enlarged. Therefore, the stiffness of the isolation layer should be properly adjusted in the design of rubber and SMA-rubber isolation PSICLSS.
