Renal Problems in Early Adult Patients with Turner Syndrome
Yu, Dong Uk,Ku, Jae Kyun,Chung, Woo Yeong Korean Society of Pediatric Nephrology 2015 Childhood kidney diseases Vol.19 No.2
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the status of renal function and the presence of urinary abnormalities in early adult patients with Turner syndrome (TS). Methods: Sixty-three girls with TS, who are attending pediatric endocrine clinics in Busan Paik Hosp., were studied. Urine and blood chemistry tests were performed in every visiting times. Renal ultrasonography was performed in all patients at the initial diagnosis, and intravenous pyelography, DMSA renal scan and renal CT were also performed, if necessary. Results: Of the 63 patients, the karyotype showed 45,X in 32 (50.8%), mosaicism in 22 (34.9%) and structural aberration in 9 (14.3%). The renal function at the latest visit was shown as normal in all patients. Nephrotic syndrome had developed in one patient. Hematuria was observed in seven patients. Renal anomalies were observed in 20 of the 63 TS (31.7%). Of the 32 TS patients with 45,X karyotype, 13 (40.6%) had renal anomalies, while these were found in 7 (22.6%) of 31 TS patients with mosaicism/structural aberration. But there was no significant statistical difference between two karyotype groups. Conclusion: Based on this study, most of the patients with TS do not have any significant problems related to renal function until early adulthood, regardless of renal malformation or hematuria.

The $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ chemical shifts of eleven flavone derivatives were completely determined by basic 1D and 2D NMR experiments. Nineteen flavone derivatives including the above eleven derivatives were examined for anti-oxidative effects using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl assay and Caenorhabditis elegans. In order to understand the relationships between the structures of flavone derivatives and their anti-oxidative activities, a Comparative Molecular Field Analysis was performed.

Background: The prevalence of colorectal adenoma(CRA) is rapidly increasing in average- risk population over 40 years of age in Korea. But, there was few available data about CRA in young adults under 40 years of age. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study to evaluate prevalence and risk factor of CRA in Korean young adults 20 to 39 years of age that included asymptomatic young adults who underwent colonoscopy screening at first time as part of employer-provided health wellness program at the Health Promotion Center, Samsung Changwon Hospital from January 2011 to December 2013. Finally, 4286 subjects with no risk of colorectal cancer (personal history of colorectal polyp, inflammatory bowel disease, or family history of colorectal cancer) were included and we analyzed prevalence and characteristics of CRA by classifying into two groups with CRA group (n=497) and CRA-free group (n=3789). Also, we performed logistic regression model to confirm risk factor of CRA in young adults. Results: Among 4286 subjects in young adults under 40 years of age, 497 (11.6%) subjects had one or more colorectal adenomas and advanced adenomas were found in 39 (0.9%) subjects. The prevalence of CRA in the each decade of age group was 5.4% (33/608) in 20 to 29 years of age and 12.6% (464/3678) in 30 to 39 years of age. In multivariable regression analysis, age over 30 years old (OR, 2.37; 95% CI, 1.64-3.43), current smoker (OR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.15-1.92) and alcohol consumption (OR, 1.30; 95% CI, 1.03-1.64) were associated with increased risk of CRA in young adults. Conclusions: The prevalence of CRA and advanced adenoma in Korean young adults was 11.6% and 0.9%, comparable to those of previous small studies. Age, smoking and alcohol consumption were associated with CRA in young adults.
